Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Day She Disappeared

It happened without warning.

No announcement.

No goodbye.

Just—

Gone.

I knew the moment I walked into class.

Her seat.

Empty.

Again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Not temporary.

Not uncertain.

Final.

"…Didn't you hear?"

A voice behind me.

I didn't turn.

Didn't need to.

"Her family transferred her," someone said.

"Different school. Private."

"Of course."

Laughter.

Like it was normal.

Like it didn't matter.

But it did.

It mattered more than anything.

I stood there—

Looking at that empty seat.

And for the first time—

I felt it.

Not pressure.

Not fear.

Loss.

Real.

Immediate.

Heavy.

"…Figures," Ryan's voice came again.

"They don't keep people like her around places like this."

I clenched my jaw slightly.

But I didn't respond.

Because this time—

There was nothing to say.

No argument.

No denial.

Just truth.

She was gone.

The day passed in a blur.

Classes.

Voices.

Movement.

None of it stayed.

None of it mattered.

Because every time I looked up—

That seat was still empty.

And it stayed that way.

After school—

I didn't go home.

I walked.

No direction.

No plan.

Just moving.

Because standing still—

Made it worse.

Everything reminded me of her.

That hallway.

That classroom.

That desk.

Even the silence felt different.

Like something had been taken out of it.

Something that made it… less empty.

By the time I stopped—

I didn't even realize where I was.

Until I looked up.

The old gym.

The place we met.

The place we almost got caught.

The place that now—

Meant nothing.

Or maybe—

Too much.

I stood there for a long time.

Doing nothing.

Thinking nothing.

Because thinking would make it real.

And I wasn't ready for that.

A vibration.

I froze.

Slowly—

I pulled out my phone.

Unknown number.

Again.

My chest tightened.

Because now—

It could only mean one thing.

Her.

I opened it.

One message.

Short.

Simple.

Final.

"I'm sorry."

That was it.

No explanation.

No detail.

Just—

Sorry.

I stared at the screen.

Waiting.

For another message.

For something more.

But nothing came.

Because there was nothing left to say.

I typed.

Stopped.

Typed again.

Deleted it.

What do you even say to that?

What words are enough?

What words matter?

In the end—

I sent one message.

Just one.

Then—

I waited.

A few seconds.

Then minutes.

Then—

Nothing.

No reply.

No response.

Just silence.

And this time—

It stayed.

I lowered the phone slowly.

Because now—

There was no doubt.

No hope.

No "maybe."

She was gone.

Not just from school.

Not just from that place.

From this.

From us.

The wind moved slightly.

Quiet.

Cold.

And for the first time—

It actually felt that way.

Cold.

Because everything that was starting to change—

Everything that was starting to matter—

Was gone.

Just like that.

And there was nothing I could do about it.

I looked at the place where she once stood.

Where she chose to stay.

Where she refused to walk away.

And now—

She didn't have a choice anymore.

"…Yeah," I said quietly.

To no one.

To nothing.

"This is how it was always going to end."

But even as I said it—

Something didn't feel right.

Because deep down—

I knew one thing.

This wasn't over.

Not really.

Not for me.

And maybe—

Not for her either.
