Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Silence She Left Behind

Days passed.

Then weeks.

And somehow—

Everything went back to normal.

At least…

That's what it looked like.

The same classrooms.

The same teachers.

The same noise filling the halls.

Nothing changed.

Except—

Everything did.

I sat in my usual seat.

Not the one next to her.

That seat stayed empty for a while.

No one took it at first.

Like it meant something.

Like people remembered.

But eventually—

Someone else sat there.

Of course they did.

That's how things work.

Nothing stays empty forever.

Not places.

Not moments.

Not people.

"…You're quiet again."

A voice.

Ryan.

I didn't look at him.

"Guess things are back to normal, huh?" he said.

Normal.

I almost laughed.

"…Yeah," I replied.

Because it was easier than explaining.

Easier than saying—

This isn't normal.

This is what's left after something ends.

I stopped checking my phone after the first few days.

At first—

I waited.

Every vibration.

Every notification.

Hoping.

For something.

Anything.

Another message.

Another word.

Another sign—

That it wasn't over.

But nothing came.

And eventually—

You stop waiting.

Not because you want to.

But because you have to.

At home—

Nothing changed either.

Same walls.

Same silence.

Same routine.

My mother still worked late.

Still came home tired.

Still tried to smile like everything was okay.

And I still pretended to believe it.

Because that's what we do.

We survive.

Even when things feel different.

Even when something is missing.

I found myself walking more.

After school.

No reason.

No destination.

Just moving.

Because standing still—

Made me think.

And thinking—

Always led back to her.

The way she spoke.

The way she looked at things.

The way she chose…

Me.

Even when she didn't have to.

Even when it made things harder.

"…You changed."

Her voice echoed in my mind.

From that day.

From that moment.

And the worst part was—

She was right.

I did change.

Because before her—

I didn't care.

Not really.

About people.

About moments.

About anything beyond getting through the day.

But now—

Everything felt heavier.

Like it mattered more.

Like losing it meant something.

I stopped near the old gym again.

I didn't mean to.

My feet just took me there.

Out of habit.

Or maybe—

Something else.

I stood in the same place.

Looking at the same wall.

The same gap where we hid.

The same space where everything almost fell apart.

And I realized something.

That place—

It didn't feel empty.

It felt… remembered.

Like something had happened there—

Something real.

And no matter what—

That wouldn't disappear.

"…This isn't over."

I said it quietly.

To myself.

To the silence.

To whatever was left.

Because even if she was gone—

Even if everything went back to how it was—

I couldn't go back.

Not completely.

Not anymore.

Because once something changes you—

You don't get to undo it.

My phone stayed silent.

The world stayed the same.

And she stayed gone.

But deep down—

There was still something.

Not hope.

Not exactly.

Something quieter.

Something stubborn.

Something that refused to disappear.

Because even if this was the end—

It didn't feel like one.

Not yet.

And maybe—

That was the problem.

Or maybe—

That was the reason I kept going.
