Synopsis
A bet was never supposed to cost a heart. Ellen is brilliant, disciplined, and determined to rise above her circumstances. Love has never been part of her plan—not when she has bigger dreams to chase and a future to protect. Henry is charming, admired, and dangerously used to getting what he wants. When a reckless bet pulls Ellen into his world, what begins as a game soon becomes far more complicated than either of them expected. But some choices leave scars. As secrets unravel and betrayal cuts deeper than either of them imagined, Ellen is forced to face a heartbreak that threatens everything she has worked for. And Henry must confront the painful truth that winning a game means nothing when the prize is someone he never meant to lose. In a story filled with passion, pain, family, and redemption, The Player and the Played asks one haunting question: Can love survive after trust has been shattered? Chapter 1 - CHAPTER TWO

Ever since she read about cardio-surgery, Ellen developed a passion for that profession. The time for the promotional exam came, and as usual, the defending champion took the overall position. Due to her excellence and eloquence, she was made the head girl by appointment. Ellen won all competitions for the school. This was the first time an exceptional student was seen in the school. The authorities loved and cherished her. Form three life was very stressful, especially since she had to balance her studies with her duties as head girl. There were other prefects, but they all left their duties for her out of spite. '' If she's so perfect, she can do everything by herself to make them perfect… hahaha" the assistant head girl (Abena), said sarcastically. Indeed, Ellen handled everything perfectly and was acknowledged as such. ''Good morning, students. My dear friends, I hope you are all well. As you all know, your final exams are coming on. You should put aside all playful acts and pick up your books to learn. Dear Ellen, this is the first time NIMA BASIC SCHOOL has been blessed with an exceptional student. Dear, we have high expectations that you will bring glory to this institution. I know you won't disappoint us…. Give it up for Ellen, our pride and joy." The headmaster announced at the morning assembly while everyone cheered for Ellen. Meanwhile, the object of attention was thinking about the upcoming exam. Time drew near, and everyone was at their wits' end trying to get every book topic in their heads. Of course, some played and joked around. ''Ama, why don't you rest a bit? I'll wake you up at dawn to continue, okay." Esinam urged her daughter, as it was quite late, and Ellen had been yawning for a while now. ''Alright, Mom, but please wake me up. I still have more to revise. Good night." She said and went to bed. The awaited time came, and while some chewed their pen tops, others wrote with confidence, and Ellen was no exception. … (Months later). '' Mooooom!!!" Ellen screamed her mother's name on the farm. Esinam was busy weeding around the cocoa trees when she heard her name from afar. ''Ahhh, Ama, what is it, huh? Why are you screaming like this at such a scorching time? '' ''Mom, my results are in, and I passed, Mom!! That too with flying colors. I had nine ones!! Yay!! Thank you, lord!!!" Ellen announced while showing the paper she was holding to her mother. Esinam was beside herself with bliss. ''Oh, Ama, once again you've made your mother proud med) ba. Oh, Awurade me daase. (Oh lord, I thank you)" She praised her daughter and the lord. The school placement came, and without a surprise, she had her first-choice school, which was Achimota School. Secretly, Esinam was worried about how she was going to pay the expenses of her daughter's schooling. She could only pray for a miracle and was elated when God glorified Himself. Ellen went to show her results to the headmaster, and likewise, they were proud of her even more than her mother was because she had won the prestigious presidential award for her year batch, along with other students. They informed Ellen and her mother, assuring them they would take care of the charges to the flagstaff house and back for the award, as gratitude for the recognition and glory Ellen had brought upon the school. They all went there for the award, and everyone cheered for the best student in all of Ghana. Ellen was given a fully paid scholarship to her school of choice. All that her mother needed to do was to pay for Ellen's transportation. "Ama, I'm very proud of you, as you know. It's always been you and me.

You're going to school in the boarding house now. Your school is very prestigious. It's a mixed school, just like your basic school. Ama, I've never had problems with you concerning boys, but this time I'm advising you as a mother. If you face any trouble with any guy, report him to the authorities or call me. Also, my dear, why don't you make friends now? You are highly intelligent. You can't avoid friends your whole life. My child, wos3me (You take after me). You are beautiful and brilliant like me. It is life and my mistakes that have made me like this, despite my qualities. My daughter, make friends in order to have connections in life. And most importantly, pray without ceasing. Remember, A DAY WITHOUT CHRIST IS A DAY FULL OF CRISIS." Esinam advised her daughter and bid her farewell after all the necessary arrangement was done for her schooling.
