Three years went on and life as a Mermaidian seemed okay for Max and his brother. School was over and they started living an adult live but luckily, their parents weren't far away. Max kept battling threats perfectly without Daniel and Daniel finally had a talking wrist watch. It seemed that his wrist watch adapted to Daniel's lifestyle so it took some time to it to be active in speech. Max thought of visiting his brother in California and staying there for like a week just to know how his brother was doing assuming the fact that he was still new to the city.
When he arrived in California, he took a tour bus so that he could see all the sites in the city before he went on looking for Daniel's apartment building. He got to the apartment building and searched for his place. Daniel's apartment was okay but Max thought it could need some improvements. They got to work on a sibling project they have been working on since school. They are computer specialist so they thought of creating a website for their sibling brands. Other things had to be done but they got to bed as night draped the city. Max started having dreams and nightmares about a crystal. He dreamt that he was getting pulled in by the crystal as Daniel was trying to get him out and saying he shouldn't use his powers over and over again. He suddenly woke up and thought to get a drink of water but he immediately dropped it and had a vision of the crystal. He wondered whether the crystal had any sort of connection with him. Daniel woke up by the sound of the glass shattering. He cut his visit short and went back to New York, removed his watch, rented a diving suit and swam to point where pressure was noticeable but he didn't feel any sort of connection to the crystal and wondered if the crystal wasn't after him, but was after his wrist watch. He rushed to his apartment, grabbed his watch, transformed and went to the kingdom's library. Max searched for books having connection with crystals and read it from beginning to end. Nothing in those books explained the connection between his watch and the crystal.
He called Daniel and asked him whether he could come over for a few days. When he came, he asked a lot of questions but Max only answered one. Daniel asked what the color of the crystal was and Max replied that it was the mixture of blue, red, yellow, and purple. His watch vibrated as an expression of shock saying that the crystal's element was that of the one that trapped it. Daniel's watch explained to them that it was manufactured and that it didn't remember any crystal trapping it. Max then realized that the crystal wasn't pulling himself but his watch which seemed to have some sort of connection due to past events.
