Kevin watched the realization slowly dawn on Loretta's face.
Her eyes widened as she looked around the room again, then back at him.
For some reason, the sight amused him.
A sudden urge to tease her surfaced. "Are you trying to seduce me again?" His voice was cold, without the slightest hint of playfulness.
The words sent a shiver through Loretta.
"What?"
She immediately jumped out of bed. She could not believe she had survived almost drowning, fire, and poison, only to deliver herself to the chopping block.
Unfortunately, the movement was too sudden. Her foot twisted beneath her, and she lost her balance.
"Ah!"
She fell to the floor.
Kevin's expression changed slightly.
Loretta quickly tried to push herself up, but the moment she put weight on her foot, a sharp pain shot through her ankle.
She winced, but she knew she couldn't stay there. If she still loved her life, she needed to leave immediately.
She grabbed the edge of the bed and slowly pulled herself upright.
