Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: TRACES OF THE FROST SOVEREIGN

Morning did not arrive gently on Snow Island, it came like a silent invasion, the cold growing sharper instead of fading, as if the night had only been a warning of what truly awaited them deeper inside.

The cave that had protected them from the storm now felt like a fragile shelter against something far greater, and as Lee Hyun slowly opened his eyes, the first thing he felt was not discomfort, but clarity.

His body had adapted during the night, his newly stabilized foundation allowing him to endure the freezing temperature far better than before, yet even then, the cold here was not something to underestimate.

He shifted slightly, only to realize that Min Seoah was still close to him, her head resting lightly against his shoulder, her breathing calm and steady. For a brief moment, he didn't move, his gaze softening just a little as he looked at her.

The usual cold and distant aura she carried was completely gone in her sleep, replaced by something far more natural, more vulnerable. A faint smile almost formed on his lips, but he suppressed it quickly.

"…You're going to misunderstand again if you wake up like this."

He muttered quietly. As if hearing him, her brows twitched slightly, and within seconds her eyes slowly opened. It took her a moment to realize the situation, and when she did, her entire body froze before she immediately pulled away, her face turning red again.

"Don't misunderstand!"

She spoke quickly, her voice slightly flustered.

"I just… fell asleep because of the cold."

He sat up calmly.

"I didn't say anything."

She looked at him, narrowing her eyes slightly.

"…You were thinking something."

He shrugged.

"Nothing important."

She stared at him for a few seconds longer before turning her face away, clearly unconvinced but choosing not to argue further. The awkwardness from before didn't linger as much this time, instead replaced by a strange, quiet familiarity that neither of them acknowledged out loud.

They prepared quickly, not wasting time, knowing that every moment here mattered. As they stepped out of the cave, the cold hit them again, stronger than before, the wind carrying sharp frost particles that reduced visibility and made movement harder.

"This place…"

Min Seoah spoke softly, her eyes scanning the endless white expanse.

"…It feels alive."

Lee Hyun nodded slightly.

"It is."

There was no hesitation in his answer. They moved forward carefully, their senses fully alert as they entered deeper into the frost-covered land. The silence here was deceptive, because beneath it, danger existed everywhere. The ground shifted unexpectedly in places, hidden ice cracks waiting to trap the careless, and the air itself carried traces of energy that interfered with perception.

It didn't take long before the first monsters appeared. From beneath the snow, fast-moving figures burst out, their bodies sleek and covered in icy armor, their eyes glowing faintly blue with a predatory instinct. Their movements were swift, almost blending into the environment itself.

"Frost Stalkers…"

Min Seoah whispered.

"They're fast."

Lee Hyun didn't respond. He moved. His body reacted instantly, his sword cutting through the air with precision, his movements now far more refined than before. The difference in his strength was clear, every attack carrying more power, more control. The monsters were fast, but not fast enough.

Min Seoah followed, her frost energy blending with the environment, her attacks becoming sharper, more fluid, her control over ice now far beyond what it had been before her reawakening. The monsters fell quickly, their bodies shattering into fragments of ice as they were defeated.

They didn't stop. They continued moving forward, facing more creatures, stronger ones, creatures that adapted to the cold, creatures that thrived in it. Yet both of them moved like they belonged there, their coordination improving with every battle, their understanding of each other becoming more natural.

Time passed. The cold deepened. And the traces began to appear. Faint marks on the ground, a frozen patterns that didn't belong to nature. They found energy residues that lingered longer than they should.

Min Seoah slowed down slightly, her eyes narrowing.

"…We're close."

Lee Hyun didn't respond immediately. Instead, he opened the system. Ten rare lottery tickets, which he saved, not using them. He had been waiting. A faint thought crossed his mind.

"This is the right moment."

He activated them. All at once. The spin began, faster than usual, the system reacting differently as multiple draws overlapped. The light flickered rapidly before settling. Rewards appeared. Two A Rank skills. One B Rank technique. Three EXP boosts. Two buff potions. Two life potions.

He didn't hesitate. He used the EXP boosts immediately. The effect was instant. A surge of energy rushed through his body, far smoother than before, his already evolved foundation absorbing it efficiently without instability.

Level 43…

Level 44…

Level 45.

It stopped there.

Min Seoah turned toward him instantly, her eyes widening.

"…What?"

She stared at him.

"…What did you just do?"

He remained calm.

"Nothing."

Her expression hardened.

"Don't lie."

She stepped closer.

"You didn't even fight just now… and you suddenly gained strength again."

He stayed silent for a moment.

"It's a secret."

Her eyes narrowed further.

"…A secret?"

Her voice dropped slightly.

"So you don't trust me?"

He sighed softly.

"It's not like that."

She crossed her arms, clearly not satisfied.

"Then what is it like?"

He looked at her directly this time.

"I trust you the most."

She froze slightly at that.

"But I can't tell you yet."

Her expression shifted again, confusion mixing with frustration.

"…Why?"

He looked away briefly.

"Because some things… aren't simple."

She clenched her fists slightly.

"…Then when?"

He hesitated.

"…When we get closer."

That only made things worse.

She took a step back, her expression turning cold again.

"…What do you mean by that?"

He rubbed his forehead slightly.

"We are close."

She immediately replied.

"Aren't we?"

He paused. Then sighed deeply. Inside his mind,

"Why can't she just understand…"

He thought.

"Is it always like this… in novels and real life… What a pain."

Outwardly, he stayed calm.

"Nothing."

He turned slightly.

"Let's move."

That only made her more annoyed.

"…You always do this."

She muttered. But she followed anyway. The silence between them was no longer comfortable, but it wasn't distant either. It was something in between, something unresolved, something growing.

They moved deeper, and then they felt it. The temperature dropped again. But this time it wasn't just cold. It was pressure of a presence. Something far beyond the monsters they had faced so far.

Min Seoah stopped completely. Her eyes widened slightly.

"…This is…"

Lee Hyun also stopped, his expression turning serious.

"…We found it."

Before them, the snow shifted slightly, revealing a massive frozen structure partially buried beneath layers of ice. It wasn't natural. It carried design, intention, power. A ruin. No, a domain.

Faint frost energy pulsed from within it, ancient, overwhelming, and cold enough to freeze even the air itself.

Min Seoah's breathing slowed.

"…The Frost Sovereign…"

Her voice was barely above a whisper. Lee Hyun's grip on his sword tightened slightly. This was it. The real danger and the true test for her. And for the first time since entering Snow Island, even he felt it clearly. If they made a single mistake here, they wouldn't survive.
