The deeper they stepped into the frozen domain, the more the world around them changed, not in appearance alone but in presence, in pressure, in the way the air itself seemed to resist their movement.
The snow was no longer just snow, it carried energy within it, ancient frost that had existed long before them, and every step they took left behind faint cracks of resistance, as if the land itself was aware of intruders entering its core.
The wind no longer howled wildly, instead it moved in controlled currents, sharp and precise, like invisible blades brushing against their skin. This was no longer just a harsh environment, this was territory, ruled by something that did not welcome outsiders.
The monsters they began to face here were different. Not just stronger but smarter and ore aggressive, far more dangerous.
A group of creatures emerged from the snow without warning, their bodies were larger than anything they had faced before in this region. Covered in layered frost armor that reflected light like sharp crystal, their limbs thick and powerful, their eyes glowing with a deeper, colder intensity. Their movements were no longer erratic like earlier monsters, they were calculated, coordinated, hunting rather than attacking blindly.
"Stay alert."
Lee Hyun said calmly. Min Seoah nodded, stepping forward. The first clash happened instantly. One of the beasts lunged forward with terrifying speed, its claws slicing through the air with enough force to tear through solid ice. Min Seoah reacted quickly, her frost energy rising as she countered, forming a barrier that absorbed part of the impact while she redirected the rest, her movements sharp and practiced.
But, the difference showed..The monster didn't fall. The attack didn't even slow them down much. It attacked again faster and more stronger.
She stepped back, her expression tightening slightly as she pushed more power into her attack, her frost abilities striking directly this time, aiming for precision rather than defense. The hit landed. The monster staggered slightly. But it didn't die.
At the same time, Lee Hyun moved. His sword cut through the air with a clean, effortless motion, his body flowing naturally as if he had already calculated everything before the fight even began. His blade struck once, and the monster split clean, in instant. They didn't even got a change to resist.
The remaining beasts turned toward him, their instincts immediately recognizing the greater threat. They rushed.
He stepped forward. His movements were calm, almost casual, yet every strike carried overwhelming precision, his attacks landing exactly where needed, wasting no motion, no energy. One after another, the monsters fell, their bodies breaking apart like they were nothing more than obstacles in his path.
Within moments, it was over. Silence returned. Min Seoah stood there, her breathing slightly heavier, her eyes fixed on the remains of the monsters.
Her grip tightened. Not out of fear, but something else. Something heavier.
"…You're getting stronger again."
She said quietly. Lee Hyun didn't respond immediately. He understood what she meant. The difference, the gap, it was no longer subtle. It was clearly visible. She had struggled but he hadn't.
They continued moving forward, but the atmosphere between them shifted slightly, not outwardly, not through words, but internally.
Min Seoah walked beside him, her steps steady, her expression controlled, but inside, the feeling grew. The feeling of being left behind. She was not weak. She knew that she had fought, she had grown, she had awakened her potential. And yet, standing beside him now, it felt like she was falling behind. Again...
Another group of monsters appeared, stronger this time, their levels clearly beyond hers, their presence heavier, their movements faster.
She stepped forward again. This time, she forced more power out. Her frost surged, sharper, colder, her attacks becoming more aggressive, more direct. She landed hits, and fought hard. But still, the monsters didn't fall as easily. And again, Lee Hyun moved. And again, he ended it faster, cleaner and effortlessly.
They continued like this for a while. Until finally, he spoke.
"You're thinking too much."
She stopped slightly.
"…Am I?"
He looked at her.
"You are."
She didn't deny it.
"…It's obvious, isn't it?"
Her voice was calm, but there was weight behind it.
He paused for a moment. Then said quietly.
"You don't need to compare right now."
She looked at him.
"…And when should I?"
He didn't hesitate.
"When you complete your job change."
She stayed silent.
He continued.
"You're not behind… You're just not there yet."
She didn't respond.
But her gaze softened slightly.
"…You really think so?"
He nodded.
"I know so."
A brief silence followed. Then, she exhaled slowly.
"…Fine."
The tension didn't disappear completely. But it eased. They continued forward. The clues became clearer, as the frost patterns grew denser and the energy become heavier. And then they saw it. The palace.
A massive structure of ice and ancient frost, towering before them like a frozen kingdom, its walls carved with patterns that radiated power, its presence overwhelming even from a distance. The air around it was colder than anything they had felt so far, the pressure was so dense that it felt like walking into deep water.
Min Seoah stopped. Her body reacted instantly, her breathing became uneven. The pressure, it was too much for her. Her knees weakened slightly.
"This…"
She struggled to speak.
"…This is…"
Lee Hyun stepped forward slightly. The moment he did, he released his own presence. Not aggressively, but enough to shield her. The pressure around her eased slightly, just enough for her to stand properly again.
She looked at him, surprised.
"You…"
He didn't look at her.
"Focus."
She steadied herself.
"…Right."
They moved closer. The palace loomed over them, silent, watching. Lee Hyun's eyes narrowed slightly.
"This is it."
He looked at her.
"You stay back when it starts."
She immediately shook her head.
"No."
His voice became firmer.
"This isn't a fight for you."
Her expression hardened.
"…I won't just stand and watch."
He stepped closer.
"You won't."
He pointed slightly behind.
"You'll handle everything else."
She paused.
"…Everything else?"
He nodded.
"The monsters here won't stop."
"…And I can't fight both sides."
She understood. Slowly and reluctantly she said,
"…Fine."
Her voice was quiet.
"But don't die."
He smirked faintly.
"Not planning to."
He stepped forward. Toward the palace. And then, ne opened his system. His status appeared before him.
