Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The House That Stops

Breathing

The mansion changed first.

Not visibly.

Not loudly.

Just… subtly.

Like something inside it had noticed it was being watched.

Kaya was sitting up today.

A little more than yesterday.

But her breath still came too light.

Too careful.

Nami stayed by her side.

"…You should rest."

Kaya shook her head gently.

"…I've rested long enough."

Carina leaned against the wall.

"…That's usually what people say right before their body disagrees aggressively."

Kuina stood near the window.

Watching outside.

Silent.

Alert.

Tashigi spoke softly.

"…Something is approaching."

Kevin didn't move from where he stood.

But his eyes shifted.

Slowly.

"…Yes."

Outside the mansion—

Usopp was pacing.

"…Okay… okay… I saw them… I DEFINITELY saw them…"

Carina poked her head out.

"…Saw who?"

Usopp froze.

"…Nothing! No one! Definitely NOT suspicious people with cat energy!"

Silence.

Kuina blinked.

"…Cat energy?"

Usopp pointed dramatically.

"…YES! LIKE… LIKE STEALTH CATS!"

Tashigi narrowed her eyes slightly.

"…That is not a classification."

Kevin looked past him.

Toward the forest edge.

"…They are here."

Nami frowned.

"…Who?"

Kevin didn't answer immediately.

Just watched.

The wind stopped.

Not violently.

Just… respectfully.

Then—

a presence.

Still.

Controlled.

Deliberate.

And then footsteps.

Slow.

Measured.

Like time itself was choosing when to move.

A man stepped out.

Glasses.

Calm posture.

Soft voice.

Too soft.

Captain Kuro.

Usopp immediately pointed.

"…THAT'S HIM! THAT'S THE SUSPICIOUS ONE!"

Carina blinked.

"…That man looks like he apologizes before committing crimes."

Kuina's hand moved to her sword.

Not drawn.

Just ready.

Tashigi's expression tightened.

"…Intent is unstable."

Kevin stared at Kuro.

Not reacting outwardly.

But something inside him shifted slightly.

Kuro smiled politely.

"…Good afternoon."

No urgency.

No hostility.

Just calm certainty.

Nami stepped forward slightly.

"…Who are you?"

Kuro adjusted his glasses.

"…A caretaker."

Silence.

Usopp shouted instantly.

"…LIAR! THAT'S A LIE! I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BONES!"

Carina nodded.

"…Your bones are surprisingly accurate today."

Kuro ignored them.

His gaze moved past the group.

Toward the mansion.

Toward Kaya.

"…She seems well," he said softly.

Nami stiffened slightly.

"…Stay away from her."

Kuro smiled.

"…Of course."

But he didn't move.

That was worse.

Kevin stepped forward slightly.

"…You are not a caretaker."

Kuro's eyes shifted to him.

Just slightly.

"…And you are?"

Kevin answered simply.

"…Someone who notices patterns."

A pause.

Kuro smiled faintly.

"…Interesting."

Then he turned.

"…We will return later."

And he walked away.

Like the conversation was already concluded.

Carina frowned.

"…That was unsettlingly polite."

Kuina spoke quietly.

"…He will return."

Tashigi nodded.

"…Confirmed."

Inside the mansion again—

Kaya coughed slightly.

Nami moved instantly.

"…Hey—are you okay?"

Kaya smiled weakly.

"…I'm fine."

Kevin watched her carefully.

Then spoke quietly.

"…Your body is resisting collapse, but only barely."

Silence.

Kaya blinked.

"…That's… very specific."

Carina whispered.

"…He diagnosed her emotionally."

Kevin stepped closer.

"…You are not stable."

Kaya didn't look afraid.

Just curious.

"…Can it be fixed?"

That question landed differently.

Kevin paused.

Longer than usual.

Something inside him responded.

Not power.

Not instinct.

Something deeper.

"…Yes," he said.

Nami looked at him immediately.

"…How?"

Kevin didn't answer right away.

He looked at Kaya.

Then—

at something beyond sight.

"…Life is not only structure," he said quietly.

"…It is movement."

A pause.

"…It can be guided."

Carina blinked.

"…That sounds like either healing or forbidden magic."

Tashigi narrowed her eyes slightly.

"…That is not medical doctrine."

Kuina didn't speak.

But she watched Kevin carefully.

Nami stepped closer.

"…You're saying you can help her?"

Kevin answered simply.

"…Yes."

Silence.

Kaya looked at him softly.

"…Then I trust you."

That was it.

No hesitation.

No fear.

Just trust.

Kevin closed his eyes for a moment.

And for the first time—

he reached inward.

Not outward.

Not to attack.

Not to destroy.

But to touch something quieter.

A presence.

Cold.

Still.

Existing beneath everything.

The same thing he felt before.

But now—

he did not pull it forward.

He guided it.

Carefully.

Subtly.

Like breath instead of force.

Kaya inhaled sharply.

Everyone tensed.

Nami grabbed her hand.

"…Kaya?"

Kaya's expression shifted.

Just slightly.

Color returned.

Not fully.

But enough to notice.

Carina blinked.

"…Wait… did that actually—"

Kevin opened his eyes.

Calm.

"…It is only stabilization."

A pause.

"…Not completion."

Kaya looked at her own hand.

Softly:

"…It feels lighter…"

Silence.

Outside—

Kuro stopped walking.

Just for a moment.

Then smiled faintly again.

"…So it has begun."

And inside the mansion—

Kevin understood something clearly.

This power was not just for death.

It was also for return.

And that meant—

everything ahead would become more complicated.

Not immediately.

But inevitably.

The wind outside shifted again.

And the story—

finally stopped being quiet.
