Chapter 35 - The one who woke

Inside—

Nancy screamed.

But the sound didn't finish.

It cut off.

Like something swallowed it whole.

The darkness didn't just surge this time—

It consumed.

It wrapped around her completely, pulling her under, deeper, faster—until there was nothing left to hold onto.

Kai lunged forward.

"NANCY—!"

Too late.

The entity reached her first.

And this time—

Nancy didn't push back.

Her body went still.

Her eyes—

Empty.

Outside

Everything stopped.

Mid-air—

Nancy froze.

The storm of power around her collapsed inward suddenly, like it had been pulled into a single point.

Silence.

Thick.

Unnatural.

Kai's chest tightened.

"…no."

Her head lifted slowly.

Too slowly.

Then—

Her feet touched the ground.

Gently.

Controlled.

Not like before.

Not unstable.

Not wild.

This was precise.

Deliberate.

Her eyes opened.

Completely silver.

No flicker of her.

No hesitation.

Just something ancient staring out through her.

And then—

She smiled.

Leo took a step back. "That's… not her."

Evan's voice dropped. "No. It's not."

Kai didn't move.

Couldn't.

Because something in his chest already knew.

The Alpha stepped forward.

Unlike the others—

He wasn't surprised.

He was… grim.

"Finally," he said quietly.

The thing inside Nancy tilted its head slightly.

Observing him.

Recognizing.

"Well," it said, voice smooth, layered, and calm.

"This body is… better than I expected."

Kai snapped.

He moved—fast, violent—but before he could reach her—

He was lifted off the ground.

By nothing.

Or rather—

By her.

His body slammed backward into a tree with crushing force.

A sharp crack echoed.

"KAI!" Leo shouted.

Nancy didn't even look at him.

Didn't need to.

Her attention remained on the Alpha.

"You knew," she said.

Not a question.

A statement.

The Alpha didn't deny it.

"I suspected."

That small smile returned.

"Say it."

A pause.

Heavy.

Tense.

Then the Alpha spoke—

And everything changed.

"You're not just a wolf," he said.

"You're a vessel."

The air dropped.

Even the forest seemed to recoil.

Evan frowned. "A vessel for what?"

The Alpha's gaze didn't leave her.

"For something that was sealed long before any of us were born."

Nancy—no—

it smiled wider.

"There it is."

Leo's voice was sharp. "Stop talking in riddles and explain."

The Alpha exhaled slowly.

Then said the words that shattered everything they thought they knew—

"She carries an ancient consciousness."

A beat.

"One that feeds on emotional energy—fear, pain, control."

Kai pushed himself up weakly, blood at the corner of his mouth.

"…that's why she felt the boy…"

The Alpha nodded once.

"And why she could command him."

Nancy—no—

The entity—stepped forward.

Each movement graceful.

Powerful.

Wrong.

"You make it sound so ugly," it said softly.

"I don't feed."

A pause.

"I evolve."

The ground beneath them cracked again—controlled this time.

Intentional.

"You locked me away," it continued, eyes on the Alpha now.

"Buried me inside bloodlines… diluted me… weakened me…"

Its voice sharpened slightly.

"But you failed."

The Alpha's jaw tightened.

"We delayed you."

A small, amused laugh.

"Is that what you tell yourselves?"

Then—

It looked at Kai.

Really looked this time.

And something flickered.

Recognition.

Interest.

"Oh…"

It stepped closer to him slowly.

"…you're the one she clings to."

Kai forced himself to stand straighter despite the pain.

"Get out of her."

The entity smiled.

But this time—

It wasn't mocking.

It was curious.

"She's still here, you know."

That hit everyone.

Kai's breath caught.

"What?"

"She didn't disappear," it said, tapping lightly against its own chest.

"She's just… quiet now."

A pause.

"Watching."

Inside—

Darkness.

Stillness.

Nancy floated in it.

Not gone.

Not dead.

Trapped.

Her voice echoed faintly—

"…Kai…"

But no one heard it.

Outside

Leo stepped forward, tension snapping.

"We're not letting you walk out of here with her."

The entity turned slowly toward him.

Unbothered.

"You don't get a choice."

Evan's stance shifted. "Try us."

And just like that—

The air exploded again.

But this time—

It wasn't chaotic.

It was controlled destruction.

Targeted.

Precise.

The entity lifted its hand—

And the ground beneath Leo shattered upward, forcing him back.

Evan was thrown sideways by an invisible force.

Kai tried to move again—

But this time, the pressure alone forced him to his knees.

Breathing became difficult.

Like the air itself was being squeezed out of his lungs.

The entity stood in the center of it all.

Untouched.

Unchallenged.

Unstoppable.

Then—

It spoke softly.

And that was the most terrifying part.

"I won't kill you."

A pause.

"Not yet."

Its gaze flicked back to the Alpha.

"You'll need to watch."

The Alpha's eyes darkened.

"You won't leave this forest."

The entity tilted its head.

"…watch me."

Power surged—

Bigger than anything before.

The trees bent outward.

The ground split further.

Reality itself seemed to distort slightly around her.

And for the first time—

Even the Alpha braced.

Because this?

This wasn't Nancy losing control.

This was something else entirely—

Taking it.

Yeah…
