Chapter 19 - A Spontaneous Journey

Though she had other plans, Viserion must have believed his mother had abandoned him.

Yet, to obtain the eight thousand Unsullied and liberate them from Kraznys, she had no choice but to act.

Entering the Unsullied ranks, Daenerys raised her whip high and shouted in High Valyrian, "Unsullied, advance!"

Clatter! Clatter! Clatter!

"Halt!"

"Unsullied, kill the guards, kill the whip masters and the Good Masters, kill those who abused you. Spare only the women and children under thirteen."

Hearing Daenerys's command to the Unsullied, Jorah and the Dothraki warriors immediately drew their weapons and charged toward the guards.

"You speak Valyrian!" Seeing the chaos around him, Kraznys, who had been busy subduing Viserion, finally had the chance to hear Daenerys's command.

"I am Daenerys Targaryen, Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Dothraki Sea, Mother of Dragons. Valyrian is my mother tongue," Daenerys declared, her head held high.

Only then did Kraznys realize he had been walking into a trap Daenerys had set. Before he could speak again, he heard an ancient word emerge from her lips—a word he didn't understand: "Dracarys!"

Viserion, still held by him, opened his massive jaws and unleashed a torrent of dragonfire that engulfed him. He screamed in agony as he released the now-molten chains, collapsing to the ground and gradually curling into a charred heap.

Drogon also flew from Daenerya's shoulder, using fire and claws to hunt down the circling guards and Good Masters.

Only the Unsullied guards remained in the open space, putting up a desperate resistance. The Good Masters, terrified by the dragons, had already fled in all directions.

In less than a quarter of an hour, all resistance had been crushed. The Dothraki were tasked with clearing the battlefield and looting the spoils. Daenerys approached Viserion, whose chains were half-melted at his feet, and unlocked his shackles. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gently soothed him.

After another fiery display, Rhaegal happily nuzzled against Daenerys. Unwilling to associate with the "little brat," Drogon flew into the air to observe the Unsullied formation.

Over eight thousand Unsullied stood in rigid formation, their spiked helmets and shields glinting in the sun. They were arranged in squares of a hundred, forming nearly a hundred such squares across the open space, a formidable and majestic sight.

Daenerys ordered Jorah to lead the Dothraki warriors and the Unsullied in plundering Kraznys's mansion and liberating the slaves. She strictly forbade the Dothraki from killing without cause or *raping women. A portion of the looted wealth was distributed among the slaves, while the remainder was set aside to supply the Unsullied.

The Unsullied were divided into small patrols to patrol Astapor, hunt down any remaining Good Master forces, and maintain order.

That night, Daenerys, Jorah, and Barristan discussed their next move. Jorah and Barristan were in agreement, both urging the Dragon Mother to first establish a firm foothold in Pentos and find a way to acquire a large enough fleet to cross the Narrow Sea and contend for the Iron Throne.

However, after witnessing the plight of the slaves, Daenerys had decided to march on Yunkai and liberate its enslaved population.

Seeing that they could not sway her, Jorah and Barristan reluctantly dropped the matter.

As the three of them debated, Drogon, being a dragon, found himself with little to do. With the situation in Astapor settled, he decided to embark on a long journey to Westeros.

Having been granted this rare opportunity to exist in this world as a dragon, it would be a waste of a dragon's life not to explore it thoroughly.

At his current flying speed, reaching Westeros shouldn't take too long.

From their conversation, he learned that Pentos lay more than 1,500 kilometers northwest of Astapor. Across the Narrow Sea from Pentos, Dragonstone sat diagonally opposite.

He recalled that Dragonstone housed a massive, lifelike sand table of the Westerosi continent. With that map, he wouldn't get lost when he entered Westeros.

That night, Drogon secretly took Jhiqui's flint and tinder, and pilfered some gold and silver coins from Kraznys's plundered wealth. He stuffed them into a sturdy backpack, and as dawn broke, he set off on a spontaneous journey.

In the morning, after Daenerys finished her ablutions, she discussed the matter with Jorah and others. Before they could see Drogon, she sent Jhiqui to find him. As expected, she couldn't find him, and Jhiqui's flint and tinder bag was also missing. Daenerys knew Drogon had gone off to play again and didn't bother looking for him.

At that moment, Drogon was already soaring over the Free Cities, not far from Pentos. Along the way, he stopped in the neighboring grasslands to fill his stomach, leaving a few silver coins for the Dothraki.

Though the Dothraki had no currency and traded in kind, they had dealings with cities like the Free Cities. The silver coins he left could be exchanged for goods there.

As Drogon flew, he occasionally landed in cities to gather information, choosing relatively secluded spots to avoid detection. At his juvenile maximum speed, anyone who saw him would dismiss it as a trick of the light.

Now was not the time to expose himself beyond Slaver's Bay. After the commotion he had caused in Qarth and Astapor, Lord Varys, the eight-legged spider, must surely know of the three dragons' existence and their formidable combat power.

Drogon suspected that Varys might be concealing information about the three dragons or obscuring its details, which could explain the lack of threat from King's Landing.

Of course, House Lannister in King's Landing might also be aware of the dragons but have been too preoccupied to act, allowing the Dragon Mother to grow in power.

Both possibilities existed. Given Varys's pragmatism—his lofty ideals of serving only the worthy and remaining loyal to the people—he likely had considered the Dragon Mother a potential queen from the moment she acquired her dragons.

Little Devil Tyrion's patricide and Varys's subsequent escape with Tyrion to join the Dragon Mother demonstrated his long-standing plans.

Even if Varys knew of the three dragons' existence, the people of Pentos might not.

If Varys were to reveal himself openly, he would inevitably attract unwanted attention. If the Lannisters were to send an army to exterminate the dragons, it would be problematic, especially since Rhaegal and Viserion had not yet grown to full strength.

After hiding in a ship's hold at the docks for a while, Drogon learned that he was in Tyrosh, one of the Free Cities, a mere 200 kilometers from Pentos.

It took Drogon twenty minutes to reach Pentos. He didn't rush to leave, as this was where the Dragon Mother had married Khal Drogo and become the Khaleesi of the grasslands.

He planned to sample the local cuisine, fill his belly, and then cross the Narrow Sea.

Pentos was as densely populated as Qarth. As a port city, its docks were exceptionally bustling.

It maintained close trade ties with Westeros and had a direct land route to the Dothraki Sea, giving it a strategically advantageous location.

The Pentosi on the street often braided their beards and dyed them in various colors, reminding Drogon of a wildling chieftain with a fiery red beard who had looked similar.

To find food, he slipped into the most opulent and magnificent courtyard he could find.

Following the aroma, he located the kitchen. In addition to the ingredients prepared for lunch, the pantry was also stocked with an abundance of food.

Secretly roasted duck, exquisite cakes, pies, honeyed dates, and exotic fruits he couldn't identify.

Unable to transform into his adult form, Drogon had to chew his food slowly and deliberately. He could only endure the process, stuffing his mouth with as much as he could.
