Chapter 5 - The Chase

Raphael stabilized his flight, leveling out as he crested the horizon of the city's industrial sector. His breath caught in his throat. It wasn't just a skirmish anymore; it was an all-out invasion.

The sky was choked with charcoal-black battleships, their thrusters bleeding violet exhaust into the atmosphere. Below them, a swarm of demons thousands of them, armored in bone and shadow marched through the streets like a tidal wave of teeth and claws. He saw flashes of light from other superhero groups scattered across the sector; beams of energy, shockwaves, and elemental blasts ripped through the demon ranks, but they were being overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the army.

In the distance, a singular, jagged streak of yellow light cut through the chaos. Zion. He was soaring toward the city's outer rim, his telekinetic field wrapped tight around Topanga and Merlin like a cocoon of needles.

Demon King? Demon Realm? Raphael thought, his eyes narrowing as he tracked Zion's yellow trail across the sky. I don't know what any of these things are, though I swear I heard my father talk about the Demon Realm before. And that girl, Merlin... she did kind of look like a demon with those horns, but I didn't think she was an actual demon! He shook his head, refocusing. Whatever is actually going on here, it doesn't matter. Regardless, I have to get them both back safe.

I need to check on Maya and Jax, he thought, his jaw set as he banked hard through the smoke. They're too close to the blast zones. As he rocketed forward, he reached into his suit, pulling out his phone with a trembling hand and beginning to dial. The call connected instantly.

" Rafael?" Maya's voice was frantic, sounding winded. "Are you okay? The party ended because of all those explosions we've been looking for you everywhere!"

"I'm fine, Maya," Raphael shouted over the roar of the wind as he banked hard to avoid a falling piece of debris. "Listen to me I'm okay, but there's a bounty hunter. He's got Topanga and Merlin. I'm going after them, but I need you and Jax to find a safe space."

"What? Kidnapped?" Jax's voice chimed in, muffled, in the background.

"I'm just making sure you guys are safe," Raphael pressed, his eyes tracking Zion's distant yellow trail. "Get back to the dorms immediately. The high-level government facilities have protective shields around them; you'll be safe inside. Don't leave the perimeter."

"Please be safe," Maya pleaded, her voice cracking over the receiver. "I wanna make sure I see you tomorrow. Promise me that. Don't do anything reckless."

"I promise," Raphael said, keeping his tone soft despite the wind roaring in his ears.

"Pinky promise," Maya insisted.

Raphael almost let out a laugh. "We haven't done that since middle school."

"Just please, pinky promise," she pressed, her voice trembling. "I know you're reckless, and this is dangerous this is an entire army. I know you like to joke around, but this is not a joke."

Raphael softened, his gaze locking onto the yellow streak in the sky. "I pinky promise"

A wave of intense electromagnetic static drowned out his voice. The screen flickered violently, killed by the EMP interference radiating from the demon fleet overhead, before the line went dead.

Raphael rocketed into the industrial sector, his red aura cutting through the smog like a flare. He was moving at speeds that defied the eye, yet his heightened senses the instincts of his lineage screamed a split-second too late.

A demonic beast lunged from the shadows, its jagged jaws sinking deep into his neck. The bite pierced through his reinforced skin, and the dark, volatile demonic forces clinging to the creature flooded straight into his bloodstream. The moment that alien power touched him, Raphael's Battle Spirit Energy reacted violently, igniting in an aggressive, instinctive surge to purge the corruption.

The sudden, violent weight of the creature disrupted his flight. Before he could recover, seven more demons swarmed him, latching onto his limbs and torso, their combined mass dragging him into a spiraling descent.

"Get off me!" Raphael roared.

Pure instinct took over. He didn't just push them away; he flooded his palms with a volatile cocktail of Telekinetic Force and a raw, burgeoning Battle Spirit Energy. His hands became razor-edged conduits of power. He lashed out, the invisible, energized blades slicing through the demons like wire through butter, bisecting them in mid-air.

He hovered in the sudden silence, staring at his own hands, now slick with the creatures' ichor. He felt a dark, electric hunger surging through his veins a thirst for combat he hadn't recognized before. As his Battle Spirit Energy continued to rise, the lingering presence of the surrounding demon swarm ignited his blood, awakening pure, predatory instincts to kill.

"What is this feeling? My Battle Spirit Energy… it's rising." He gripped his chest, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Is this what Father warned me about? The blessing and the curse?"

He paused for a fraction of a second, staring down at the cut-up demons falling through the sky, completely dead.

"I didn't mean to kill them," he muttered, his voice shaking. "I blacked out... I don't know what happened."

He looked down at his blood-stained hands, then back up at the cloud of ash and smoke ahead. His jaw set tight, rationalizing the violence as his instincts calm down.

"I mean... they were trying to kill me first," he reasoned, his expression hardening. "It's okay. They're just demons."

He shook his head violently, snapping his focus back to the present. Above, a massive demon battleship loomed over the sector, its cannon ports charging with a terrifying, concentrated violet light.

Target acquired.

A death beam lanced toward him. Raphael twisted in mid-air, dodging the strike, only to find himself caught in a lethal crossfire. The sky around him exploded with searing violet light. He caught glimpses of other heroes scrambling through the barrage some narrowly escaping, others disintegrating under the heavy artillery of the death beams.

He turned just in time to see another death beam surging toward him. He threw up his arms, but the kinetic impact hurled him backward, smashing through buildings and leveling several city blocks before he slammed to a halt.

He struggled to his feet, eyes fixed on the gaping wound carved into his stomach. His skin was shredded, but Red Battle Spirit Energy surged through his veins. His cells ignited, the torn tissue sealing as the wound knit together with a faint, rhythmic pulse.

Before he could take flight, the surrounding carnage stopped him. Buildings buckled, their supports shattered by his impact. Structures gave way, sending people plummeting into the dust below.

"Hold."

His Tactile Telekinesis erupted from the point of impact, expanding across the ground like a living web. It locked onto the foundations of the buckling skyscrapers and the falling citizens alike. By gripping the very atoms of the environment, Raphael forcibly bound their structural integrity to his own. The concrete and steel groaned, but under his command, they solidified fortified by his influence to become as durable and resilient as his own skin.

Amidst the stabilization, a streak of blue and white lightning zipped through the falling debris. Dash. Moving in a blur, the speedster plucked plummeting citizens from mid-air and deposited them safely on the ground with surgical speed.

Once the immediate collapse was halted, Dash skidded to a halt in front of Raphael, crackling with residual electricity. He glanced at the massive crater, then stared at the towering skyscrapers now humming with the fortified presence of Raphael's power.

"Thanks for the help back there!" Dash shouted over the roar of the fires. "I saw you take that death beam head-on most people would be dust. You okay? We need to keep moving; this is a serious mission. We still have civilians to save, and honestly, we could use someone with your power."

Raphael stood, his armor repairing itself with a faint, metallic hiss. "Yeah," he breathed, the pain finally receding. "I'm good."

Dash tilted his head, his suit humming as he scanned the newcomer. His eyes locked onto the glowing symbol on Raphael's chest, a infinity sign. He paused, his expression shifting from confusion to sudden realization. "What's your name? I've never seen you before. What superhero group are you with?"

Raphael adjusted his stance, his voice steady and calm. "I'm not part of a group. I'm Infinity Man's son. My name is One."

Dash's eyes widened, the static around his suit stuttering for a second. "Infinity Man had a son?"

Before he could process it, the ground beneath them began to heave. A colossal shadow fell over the sector, blocking out the light of the battleships. A demon, 5,717 feet tall, tore its way out of the earth. Its purple skin was armored in the bleached, massive skeletons of ancient leviathans, and when it roared, a torrent of demon flames cascaded down, melting the street like wax.

Dash glanced at Raphael, a determined grin spreading across his face. "How fast are you?"

Raphael's crimson aura flared, his muscles tensing for a release of pure velocity. "I'm pretty fast."

"Thing what I'm thinking?" Dash asked, arcs of lightning dancing around his fists.

"I think so," Raphael replied.

They didn't wait. They moved in perfect, terrifying unison Dash a blue streak of lightning, Raphael a crimson bolt of force. They struck the monster's face at the exact same millisecond. The kinetic impact was absolute, the sound of the blow cracking the sky. Despite the beast's massive size, Raphael's kinetic force surged through its hide, bypassing its armor to rupture its internal organs and snuff out its consciousness instantly. It slammed back into the earth, Unconscious.

Dash was a blur of motion, snatching civilians from the debris zone before the creature collapsed into a vacant block. He zipped back to Raphael, shaking his hand and wincing at the sheer density of the impact. "Come on, let's go!" Dash shouted, gesturing toward the glowing yellow target in the distance. "You might not be part of a group, but you've got the spirit. We can't let them release the Demon King! Trust me, last time we fought him, he killed a couple of my friends."

They rocketed toward the target, but the surrounding demon battleships immediately opened fire. Raphael dodged the barrage, his mind racing. I could blast them out of the sky, but that would only rain more destruction on the city below. There has to be a surgical way to do this.

Raphael changed course, landing on the lead demon cruiser's hull.

Purple-skinned warriors swarmed the deck with glowing blades. Raphael tore through them, striking pressure points to paralyze some while punching the rest off the ship.

With the deck clear, he slammed his palms into the hull. His Tactile Telekinesis flooded the ship's circuitry, mapping its gravity drives and weapons. He overrode the navigation array, locking the thrusters straight up.

The battleship accelerated into the upper atmosphere, leaving a burning wake as it shot into space toward another planet.

Without pausing, Raphael vaulted into the sky, a red streak cutting through the smoke.

He slammed down onto a second cruiser, his fingers digging into the metal. A focused surge of Tactile Telekinesis made the hull ripple like liquid under his palm. He reshaped the ship's architecture on the fly, crushing the bridge and sealing its energy cannons shut before folding the outer walls inward like a giant puzzle box. Within seconds, the massive vessel was reduced to a sealed, airtight prison cell drifting helplessly through the clouds.

He didn't stop there. Blurring between the remaining ships in a whirlwind of red light, he dismantled the fleet through pure structural sabotage. On one cruiser, he fused the weapon ports closed to neutralize its firepower completely. On another, he twisted the heavy steering vanes, locking its thrusters to launch the vessel out of the sky toward an uninhabitable planet across the sector.

He wasn't just breaking their ships; he was rewriting their design, turning the enemy's own hulls into flying cages and sending them crashing into deep space.

With the immediate threat of those specific ships neutralized, he broke away, streaking through the chaotic sky until he drew level with the rest of Team Cosmic. The battle raged around them, a tapestry of explosions against the city skyline. Rocket Boy roared past on his jetpack, his blasters unloading precise, searing cosmic lasers. Beside him, Aquarius cut through the air, his glowing magical trident firing pressurized beams of enchanted water that punched through demon armor. Forearms was a powerhouse in motion, tearing through the enemy ranks with brutal efficiency, while Mystic Woman hung in the air, weaving her hands to unleash devastating torrents of magical flames.

Raphael pulled up right beside them, matching their speed effortlessly. "I'm here to help!" he shouted over the roar of the combat. "What's the plan? And who is this Demon King? He sounds a little... scary."

The team paused, their focus shifting momentarily from the demons to the newcomer. Rocket Boy spun around, his cosmic pistols snapping up to lock onto Raphael's chest with a harsh click.

"If you're here, you should have been briefed on the mission priorities," Rocket Boy snapped, his voice amplified through his visor. "What's your hero name? Which group are you with?"

Rocket Boy's eyes narrowed as his gaze dropped to the crest on Raphael's chest. "And you're wearing the same symbol as that bounty hunter we ran into earlier. Did you come with him? How do I know I can trust you?"

Raphael held his hands up, his expression earnest. "Hey, you can trust me, I promise! I'm wearing this symbol because Infinity Man was my father. I don't know anything about a bounty hunter, but I'm here to stop him too and to get those two girls back." He offered a slightly awkward, lopsided smile. "I'm the hero of this town."

Rocket Boy didn't lower his weapons. "That's strange. There is no single hero assigned to this city. The things you're saying... I don't trust you."

"Raphael, you can trust me," he insisted, his tone pleading.

"Trust is earned, rookie," Rocket Boy barked back, pivoting in mid-air to unleash a volley of suppression rounds at a closing swarm of demons.

Mystic Woman drifted closer, her hands wreathed in soft, golden flame. "I trust him, Rocket. The currents of his spirit are clear there is no malice in his heart."

Aquarius nodded, his glowing trident humming with ambient moisture. "The tides of fate brought him to us for a reason. The more power we have to stand against the Demon King, the better."

Forearms cracked his knuckles, a sound like grinding stone. "We fight together. Enemy falls."

Then, a crackle of static broke over the comms, followed by Dash's breathless, energized voice. "Rocket, hold your fire. I saw him back in the sector; he stabilized the collapsing structural grid just to pull those civilians out. He's one of us."

Rocket Boy grunted, disengaging his weapon systems. "I trust Dash. And since he trusts you, you're good for now. But don't mistake that for my trust I don't know you. I'll be keeping a very close eye on you."

He tapped a command onto his gauntlet, manifesting a shimmering holographic display of the local sector. His eyes scanned the data, his brow furrowing as he processed the incoming intel. "Telemetry confirms their trajectory. They're vectoring toward the Demon Base. Our live feed shows that a strike team of Organization assets and local heroes has already initiated a siege there. It's a war zone."

Rocket Boy looked up, his expression hardening with renewed focus. "We need to reach the insertion point now. Everyone, increase velocity! We have to intercept them before they consolidate their position."

Raphael dropped lower, glancing down one last time. He saw a flash of blue-and-white lightning; Dash was still sprinting through the ruins below, moving at speeds that defied the destruction, actively pulling citizens from the debris and ferrying them to safety before dashing back into the fray.

Raphael turned his gaze forward. The familiar, sprawling neon grid of Omnopolis fell away, shrinking behind them as they breached the city's perimeter. The chaotic roar of the urban war faded, replaced by an unsettling, profound silence as they crossed into the Wild Abyss.

The Wild Abyss was a lawless, untamed expanse that separated the gargantuan cities of this fractured world a 100-light-year stretch of primal wilderness consisting of churning seas, suffocating jungles, and scorched deserts that defied civilization. They were currently crossing one of its vast, sun-bleached basins, a true graveyard of titans and fallen empires. Dunes of shifting, jagged obsidian sand stretched toward the horizon, broken only by the skeletal remains of creatures that belonged in a cosmic nightmare. Ribcages the size of skyscrapers protruded from the dust, intermingled with the half-buried, crumbling ruins of long-lost civilizations, casting long shadows across the heat-distorted dunes.

Their attention, however, was locked on the horizon. Rising from the center of this desolation was a massive, jagged pyramid, its peak pulsing with a volatile, unnatural energy that Shadow the sky.

Rocket Boy signaled the team to slow, his voice tight over the comms. "Be careful, guys. We just left the city grid, and this territory is lethal. But I just got intel from headquarters that's their base. That's where the portal is."

Raphael looked down, his eyes widening. Below, a war was already raging. The Superhero Organization's forces were locked in a desperate clash against a tide of demons, their powers flashing violently against the desert floor.

His gaze snapped to the summit of the pyramid, the memory of his father's voice echoing clearly in his mind: "Really focus, Raphael. Use your Battle Spirit Energy to fuel your outer telekinesis. Push past your limits. I believe in you, son."

He closed his eyes, centering his Battle Spirit. Pushing his energy outward, he channeled it directly into his telekinesis, molding it into a singular, translucent tether of shimmering Red Force. He extended his hand, locking his intent entirely on Topanga and Merlin. As he pulled, a sharp trickle of blood ran from his nose the sheer, immense strain of the exertion radiating through his veins. He didn't falter, locking his grip onto their signatures and refusing to let go.

High above, Zion and the demon captains spun around. Zion felt an invisible weight seizing his own force; someone was actively tugging against the grip he held on the girls.

Who is doing this? he thought, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the chaos below. He locked onto Raphael, who was hovering in the distance, and his sneer faltered. His gaze landed on the infinity symbol emblazoned on Raphael's chest. That crest... He took in the striking, snowy white hair a hallmark of the royal bloodline. Royal family? But then his eyes darted to the worn, utilitarian state of Raphael's uniform. No, impossible. This boy is wearing low-class rags.

Arrogance quickly stifling his confusion, Zion poured more of his yellow Battle Spirit Energy into his outer telekinesis, physically hauling the girls toward him to assert his dominance. Raphael's red force strained against Zion's yellow, their wills acting as the focal point of the cosmic pressure. The girls screamed as they were caught in the middle of a titanic telekinetic tug-of-war, their bodies shuddering under the immense, conflicting energies.

"Don't kill her!" the demon captain shrieked, his voice laced with panic. "We need her alive! She is the portal! If you break her, we are not going to pay you for this mission!"

With a sickening crackle of raw force, the connection broke. Zion's yellow telekinesis yanked Merlin back toward the demon captains, while Raphael's red force violently dragged Topanga toward him. He caught her in his arms, banking hard to steady them.

"Are you okay?" Raphael gasped, his heart hammering.

"Yeah," Topanga breathed, shivering. "But Merlin... One, please, save her!"

High in the sky, the two forces hovered, staring each other down. One of the lead demon captains rounded on Zion. "Don't worry about that girl! We hired you to retrieve the portal and the Demon King's daughter. We have her in our grasp. I don't know why you grabbed both of them we have what we needed."

Zion didn't even look back at the captain, his eyes fixed on Raphael. "I didn't know what she looked like. The device you gave me tracked both of them. If we have the target, let's go. I need to get back to the kingdom." He locked eyes with Raphael, his expression unreadable. "Seems like two of us are a long way from home."

Rocket Boy roared, surging forward. "All of you are under arrest by the Superhero Organization! Your crimes will not be forgotten!"

"Do your job," the Demon Captain snapped at Zion. "Guide us to the portal!"

Zion smirked, his voice cold. "Don't get too cocky, Captain. I could kill you just as easily."

The sky turned a bruised, sickly violet as the demon captains began to charge their dark energy, their hands weaving with pulsating, void-like light. Simultaneously, Zion raised his palm, and the atmosphere groaned in protest. Crackling arcs of jagged yellow lightning surged down from the heavens, coiling around his outstretched hand into a singular, pressurized spear of pure Telekinetic Force.

In a terrifying display of power, the demons unleashed their torrent of hellish energy, which fused instantly with Zion's kinetic lightning. The resulting blast was a catastrophic storm of violet and yellow, a massive, obliterating wave that shattered the air. Team Cosmic scrambled to coordinate their defenses, but the raw, crushing weight of the combined assault overwhelmed them, sending them spiraling downward like broken toys until they slammed hard into the obsidian dunes.

While the team lay grounded, choking on the sulfurous dust, Zion and the captains didn't hesitate. They surged up the pyramid in a blur of slaughter, cutting down any hero and Organization operative who dared to block their path. Dark energy pulses tore through armor and blades flashed, leaving a trail of fallen defenders in their wake. They didn't slow until they reached the summit; with a final, arrogant glance back at the battlefield below, Zion and the captains vanished into the swirling maw of the portal at the pyramid's peak.

Below, the dust began to settle. Team Teen Cosmic shook off the daze of the impact, coughing in the heavy air. Raphael stood amidst the shifting sand, his red aura flickering as he steadied himself and checked on Topanga.

"No scratches," she replied, still shaken.

Rocket Boy stood up, wiping grit from his visor while keeping his gaze fixed on the pyramid's summit. He watched as the last of the demon captains vanished into the swirling portal. "It's not over," he declared, his voice hard. "They still have to complete the ritual to summon the Demon King. We have to reach that portal."

"Let's move," Dash added, skidding to a halt beside them.

Mystic Woman nodded, her hands beginning to glow with crackling energy. "Lead the way, Captain. I have enough magical power to fry those demons."

Forearms smashed his fists together, the sound echoing like thunder. "Finally. I can't wait to get my hands on them."

Aquarius shrugged, his trident pulsing with pressurized water. "I will drown those demons in their own blood."

Raphael stepped forward, helping Topanga to her feet. "I'm coming with you."

Dash glanced at his leader, offering a quick nod toward the new ally. "I think he should come. He's fast and he's strong."

Rocket Boy shook his head, his gaze cold. "No. You stay here with the other heroes."

As the team began to argue back and forth, Topanga moved away from the center of the fray. She pulled her phone out, angling it down toward the group, and hit record. She wasn't just here to be a hostage; she was here to capture the story. She kept the lens steady, recording every detail of their debate while no one paid her any mind.

The roar of jet engines silenced the battlefield. A sleek, craft sliced through the smog, touching down on the obsidian dunes with precise, hydraulic grace. As the ramp lowered, a group of tactical support staff poured out, their equipment humming with activity as they immediately began scanning the area and deploying localized shielding.

Director Victor stepped out behind them. He wore a sharp, charcoal-gray suit that looked perfectly tailored for a boardroom, though the fabric shimmered with an iridescent, high-tech weave that adjusted to the hazardous atmosphere. At his shoulder, Valentina kept pace, her fingers flying across a holographic interface projected from her wrist.

"Sir, we have signal interference from the pyramid," a staffer called out, frantically adjusting a console. "The spatial folding is scrambling our telemetry!"

Victor didn't break his stride, his voice calm and cold. "Not now. Set the coordinates for a hard-link to the Void-Plane. I need that data stream stabilized before we lose the target lock. Move."

He didn't look at his staff again. His focus shifted to the group of young heroes Team Cosmic and the newcomer, One. He stopped just feet away, his expression unreadable. "Report."

Rocket Boy stepped forward, his posture rigid. "Director Victor, our surveillance objective has been compromised. We failed to protect her. We've been watching over Merlin for years, specifically to ensure she wouldn't be captured again, but they breached our perimeter and successfully extracted her. They've already transited through the gate."

Victor's gaze darkened, though his composure remained absolute. "I anticipated this contingency. The Demon King's resolve to reclaim Merlin is a calculated, relentless obsession; he will dismantle any structure and ignore any cost to secure her. Even while trapped behind the seal of the 6th Dimension, his power leaks through, creating echoes. The demons, captains, and soldiers we have been fighting are merely manifestations of his will. Let me be clear regarding the gravity of this situation: I am going to explain exactly why this mission is not just a priority it is the only objective that matters."He tapped a holographic console, the air flickering with complex data. "Listen closely. You are not entering a standard portal; you are stepping into a Hyperspace Gate. It does not lead to a physical coordinate, but to the Inter-dimensional Void the transient space between space and time. This dimension acts as a nexus, significantly lowering the energy threshold required to access higher-order dimensions. Once you cross that threshold, you are no longer in our reality."

He gestured toward the massive pyramid, his tone clinical and sharp. "They intend to use her as a Spiritual conduit to interface with the 6th Dimension. That is where we sealed him. The 6th Dimension is an infinite plane of conceptual existence a realm where uncountable concepts and abstract forces, like love, happiness, death, and fear, manifest as literal physical and metaphysical laws. The Demon King holds dominion over an entire infinite realm within that space, currently bound by multiple, layered seals. His daughter is not merely a prisoner; she is a Spiritual portal. She is the only key capable of unraveling those seals to bridge the gap."

Valentina leaned in, projecting a map of the dimensions in the air between them. "If they complete the ritual, they won't just pull him out. They will overwrite this reality with his conceptual presence. You must enter that void and intercept them before they can stabilize the connection to the 6th Dimension. We don't have Superior Man or Team Omni-Force to stop him this time they were the ones who defeated him and enacted the original seals. With them deployed off-world and in other sectors, if the ritual begins, we lose everything."

Victor turned back to the team, his gaze hard as flint. "The remaining veteran teams are currently pinned down in conflict sectors across the globe. You are the only assets we have left. Do not mistake the gravity of this: if he is released, the devastation caused by his mere existence will tear the fabric of our reality to pieces."

He took a sharp breath, his eyes cutting toward One. "Wait. You."

The team paused, mid-flight. Victor stepped forward, his suit pristine against the swirling desert dust. "You're not part of Team Cosmic. I need a status report. What is your hero ranking? What is your team affiliation? That realm between space and time is a death sentence for the unprepared. And that symbol on your chest that crest was banned for all active superheroes in honor of Infinity Man's sacrifice. He was a difficult man, but he saved this world. I don't tolerate vigilantes wearing his legacy."

Raphael felt the weight of every eye on him. He didn't flinch. "I'm not a vigilante, and I'm not part of a team. My name is One. I'm Infinity Man's son."

The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by the low hum of the pyramid's portal. Victor stared at him, his clinical expression finally cracking into a look of profound, wary recognition.

"Infinity Man's son," Victor repeated, his voice dropping to a dangerous, low frequency. "You certainly look like you have his raw power. That might be the only reason we have a fighting chance today. But I remember your father. He was arrogant. He was unmanageable. He refused to play by the rules of this organization, and he acted alone. If you share his blood, you likely share his fatal flaws."

Victor leaned in, his tone icy. "If you act as a rogue element, if you jeopardize this mission, I will have you arrested the moment we return no matter who your father was. This is a sanctioned mission." He whipped his head toward the leader. "Rocket Boy! Keep your eyes on him. If he steps out of line, you report it to me immediately. Now, go! We are almost out of time!"

The team surged into action, energy crackling as they prepared to launch. Before Raphael could propel himself into the air, a hand gripped his forearm. He looked down to see Topanga, her eyes searching his.

"I know we don't really know each other," she said, her voice small but steady. "This is your second time saving me, and I'm just a reporter... but please. Save my friend. Bring Merlin back."

Raphael looked at her with a fierce, quiet resolve. "I promise," he said. "I'll bring her back."

He turned to the team, his battle Spirit Energy igniting like a translucent, shimmering cocoon around his body. With a sharp crack of displaced air, Raphael surged upward, flying in lockstep with Team Cosmic. Together, they streaked across the horizon, a blur of motion tearing toward the massive pyramid and the swirling, unstable maw of the Hyperspace Gate.
