Chapter 3 - First Day of Being Justice

First Day of Being Justice

"Where is it? I swear I packed it!"

Raphael was on his knees, hands frantically diving into the depths of his duffel bag. He tossed aside textbooks, folded hoodies, and boxes of nutrient bars. "Where is it? Come on, come on..."

The heavy dorm door creaked open, and a voice cut through the silence like a sharp blade. "I'm surprised you're even here. I guess the talk with your parents didn't work after all."

Raphael spun around. Standing in the doorway was Maya, her confidence as loud as the gum she was snapping between her teeth. She wore her hair in her signature black ponytails, her striking, angled elf ears poking through her hair, and her green eyes scanning the messy room with an amused glint. Right behind her was Jax, adjusting his glasses. His messy hair and freckles looked exactly the same as they had in high school, though his expression was far more skeptical.

Jax pulled his glasses off, wiping them on his shirt with a sigh. "I'm not surprised. His mom is pretty strict. Which I don't really understand... your powers are pretty cool. Everyone on this planet is basically an alien from somewhere else anyway. I don't know why she wants you to act like a human and live a 'normal' life so bad."

"Yeah, they both said no," Raphael said, turning back to his bag and digging even deeper. "But that's fine. I was expecting them to. That's one of the reasons I picked this college. It's on the other side of the country. If I'm here, I can finally be a hero."

He paused, his voice dropping an octave as he looked at his friends. "I told you guys before my family is being hunted. We're part of a race that people are looking for. I don't really know why; my mother and father never tell me the full story. They just say we have to lay low. Live our lives as humans. They say it's better off if people don't know we have powers and especially that they don't know what we are."

He suddenly froze, his hand hitting something at the bottom of the bag. "Wait! I think I found" He yanked a bundle of fabric out, his triumphant look quickly fading into a frown. "No, that's just a towel. Dammit."

"What are you even looking for?" Jax asked, leaning against the doorframe.

"I'm looking for my superhero costume," Raphael muttered.

Maya stopped chewing for a second, her eyebrows shooting up as her pointed elf ears twitched.

"Superhero costume? I'm confused. I thought your parents banned the hero thing," she said, a slow smirk spreading across her face. "Oh, I see. You're just not going to listen to them. I mean, you're pretty much an adult now, Raphael. You should do whatever you want. But did you actually register with the Hero Organization?"

Jax stepped fully into the room, his voice rising in pitch. "You registered with the Organization and you didn't bring me with you? What's your ranking? Are you C-Class? B-Class? Tell me you didn't get stuck in D-Class!"

"No, I didn't register," Raphael hissed, pulling out his ID card and waving it in the air. "I'm still registered as a regular human with no powers. I would never join the Hero Organization. Even when my father was a superhero, he never joined them, and he still became the Number One hero in the eyes of the people. He did it his way."

He tossed the ID onto the bed and went back to the bag. "For the last couple of weeks back home, I've been going out at night. I made my own costume. I did it as an experiment to see if I could handle it. That's why I picked this school it's so far away from my parents that I can be a hero in this city and go to college at the same time. I can make my mom proud, and she'll never have to know the truth. If I can just find that suit..."

Jax's tone shifted from excitement to full-blown lecture mode. He adjusted his glasses, his expression turning sharp and analytical.

"I don't think it's smart at all," Jax countered, tapping his foot rapidly against the floorboards. "Rafe, it's a legal suicide mission. In this jurisdiction, acting as an unregistered hero carries a mandatory minimum of twenty years in federal prison. The law is very specific: unless your life is in immediate, unavoidable danger, or you're using your abilities within the strict confines of a licensed profession, any display of power is considered a felony."

He stepped closer, counting points off on his fingers. "And that ID? That's the nail in the coffin. You've officially lied about your biological status to a government agency. That's fraud, identity falsification, and a threat to national security all rolled into one. If the authorities catch you, they won't just take your cape; they'll erase your future. And don't think for one second that while you're out playing vigilante, I'm going to carry your GPA like I did in high school. College-level biophysics isn't something I can just 'handle' for you while you're out punching shadows. You've got another thing coming."

"Come on, Jax! Without you, I wouldn't have even graduated, let alone made it into this program," Raphael pleaded.

As the two of them argued back and forth, Maya wandered over to the bed. She noticed a small, odd-looking rip in the interior lining of the bag. "Hey, I think I found your 'costume' right here."

Raphael glanced over. "No, that's just a gift my dad said he left me. That's not it."

"Are you sure?" Maya asked, her green eyes narrowing. "It looks pretty shiny." She didn't wait for permission; she hooked her finger into the rip and pulled. The lining tore away, revealing something hidden in a secret compartment.

She pulled it out, and the room seemed to grow still. It wasn't the homemade spandex Raphael had stitched together in his closet. Maya was holding an intricate, advanced battle suit of armored, matte-black material and polished, heavy silver plating that looked virtually indestructible. Sleek red panels were integrated into the design, and the entire suit shimmered with a high-tech, metallic luster. Etched with precise, surgical detail into the center of the chest plate was the Infinity symbol, picked out in a deep, vibrant red.

"Told you I found it," Maya breathed. "It looks incredible. I can't believe you made this yourself."

A small, hand-written note fluttered from the folds of the suit, landing on the dusty floorboards. Raphael rushed forward, snatching the costume out of Maya's hands. His breath hitched as his fingers brushed the chest plate. Etched into the center was the Infinity symbol.

"I didn't make this," Raphael whispered.

He reached down and picked up the note. His eyes scanned his father's steady, disciplined handwriting:

Dear Son,

I've been watching you these past few weeks. I saw you slipping away into the night, risking everything to rescue those who couldn't help themselves. I also saw that "costume" you tried to stitch together.

I decided to destroy it. If you are going to stand as a shield for others, you should wear something worthy of the task.

Hidden in this bag is one of my old uniforms from back home. It is not made of mere fabric; it is forged from pure telekinetic force and solidified energy. Do not worry your mother does not know I've given this to you. You are far enough away now that I believe your secret is safe, provided you are careful.

Your mother wants to delay the inevitable, but you are a warrior born of a warrior race. Across this vast universe, there are many who see this Infinity symbol and tremble, fearing it as a mark of conquest. I wore that symbol when I was a hero on this planet, determined to change its legacy. I wanted the stars to see it and know that a new era was coming one defined by transition and peace.

I want you to represent that change, Son. You were not destined to conquer; you were destined to save.

Wear this symbol proudly. Before our tyrant King twisted its meaning, it was the ancient mark of our people. It means Infinite Hope. Be the one to restore that truth to the galaxy. Give them something to believe in.

Remember, we are only a phone call away if you need anything. I love you. Be safe.

Dad.

Raphael lowered the paper, his heart hammering against his ribs. He looked at the suit the armor of a Kinetas legend, passed down to him in secret.

"This is from my dad," he whispered. "Thank you so much..."

Jax and Maya leaned in, their eyes wide as they looked at the shimmering, high-tech fabric that seemed to vibrate with a low, spiritual hum.

"Well?" Maya prompted, a wild grin on her face. "Put it on."

The matte-black suit fitted Raphael like a second skin, responding instantly to his internal energy. Silver armor plating protected his chest and shoulders, with red panels humming along his limbs.

In the center of his chest sat the Infinity symbol, gleaming beneath the dim dorm light. Raphael flexed his fingers, taking in the armor's sleek weight. He felt indestructible. It didn't feel like a costume it felt like he was finally complete.

"It feels... perfect," Raphael whispered. "It's like it's waiting for me to move."

"So, what are you gonna call yourself?" Maya asked, blowing a massive bubble and popping it. "You can't just be 'The Guy in the Shiny Suit'."

Jax adjusted his glasses, his eyes scanning the silver shoulder pads. "Obviously, he should be Infinity Boy. I mean, look at the logo! That's the same sigil your dad used when he was the Number One hero, Infinity Man. It's a legacy name."

Raphael looked at his reflection in the cracked mirror, his silver eyes catching the light. He thought of his mother's desperate hope for him to be a scientist, and his father's secret pride in his warrior blood. He didn't want to be a shadow of the past; he wanted to be the beginning of something new.

"I'm not copying my dad," Raphael said firmly. "Besides, ever since he retired, there have been dozens of heroes calling themselves 'Infinity-something,' wearing his symbol and trying to ride his coattails. I'm not a copy."

He remembered his mother's words how he was meant to be the change. He was the first of his kind not to be raised in blood and conquest. He was the first one to start fresh.

"How about just... One?"

Maya nodded, her elf ears twitching as she grinned. "Short and to the point. I like it. It sounds like a fresh start."

"Too plain," Jax groaned, crossing his arms. "Marketability, Rafe! Think about the branding!"

"But your superhero costume doesn't even have a mask," Maya pointed out, her brow furrowed with concern. "People are going to realize who you are."

Raphael shook his head. "I do the same thing my father did. He never wore a mask; he just used his inner telekinesis to reshape his face."

To demonstrate, he focused for a split second. In front of their eyes, his features shifted the set of his jaw, the bridge of his nose, and the curve of his brow subtly transformed.

"Wow, you really do look different," Maya said, leaning in to get a closer look. "Even with the same hair and eye color, your face is completely unrecognizable."

Jax leaned forward, eyes wide. "Wait, can you do that to my face?"

The three of them talked and laughed for another hour, the tension of the move finally melting away before Jax and Maya headed off to their own dorms for the night.

But as the door clicked shut, the silence of the room was immediately pierced by the sounds of the city outside. To anyone else, it was just background noise, but to Raphael's Kinetas ears, it was a symphony of chaos. He could hear the distant, jagged rhythm of a struggle in an alley three blocks over, the shattering of glass, and the desperate, muffled cries of someone in trouble.

He looked at his books on the desk, then at the suit lying on the bed. The promise to his mother felt like a lead weight, but the "warrior" his father spoke of was screaming to be let out.

"Let's see what this city has to offer," Raphael whispered.

The night air screamed past his ears, but for the first time in eighteen years, it didn't feel like a threat it felt like freedom. "This is it!" he shouted into the wind, his voice lost in the vastness of the skyline. "No more pretending! No more hiding what I am!"

He leveled out, his Battle Energy shimmering around him like a translucent cocoon. He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, expanding his senses across Omnopolis a gargantuan ocean of steel and light spanning billions of kilometers.

To a Kinetas, a city was a living vibration. He filtered through the low hum of traffic and massive power lines until he caught it: the jagged frequency of fear. Below in a trash-strewn alley, a human woman was backed against a wall. A massive, eight-foot ogre in a hoodie held a laser-pulse pistol to her temple.

"Everything! Give me everything you got before I kill you!" the ogre growled.

The woman's hands trembled as she handed over her purse. The robber snatched it and spun to bolt, only to slam into a wall of solid silver and black. He tumbled backward, hitting the pavement with a heavy thud. The ogre scrambled up, his eyes narrowing.

"Cute little costume, you little brat. You better move, kid! You think just because you have powers, I'm scared?" He let out a harsh laugh. "Do you think you're a superhero?"

The robber snarled, leveling a pulse pistol at Raphael's chest. Raphael didn't flinch. "How about you give her the money back? If you do, you might avoid the hospital. But you're definitely still going to jail."

The thief didn't wait. He pulled the trigger, and three bolts of searing thermal energy hissed through the air. Raphael simply stood his ground. His Tactile Telekinesis surged, meeting the beams inches from his chest. The red force solidified, catching the lasers and holding them frozen in mid-air like flies in amber.

The robber's jaw dropped. "I thought you were just a nerd in a suit... this town hasn't had a hero in two years!"

"Then I guess it's time for a change," Raphael said.

With a flick of his fingers using Reverse Counter Flow, the redirected kinetic pressure sent the laser bolts whistling back.

The ogre roared, dodging two of the bolts as he backed away. "You think you're the only one with powers?" He pulled a glowing vial from his hoodie pocket. "This guy looks tough... just in case. This will increase my strength and my battle energy!"

He slammed the syringe into his neck, gritting his teeth as his body swelled, muscles bulging and skin hardening into thick hide. Instantly, a dark, jagged surge of battle energy burst from his skin, flaring outward like a chaotic aura as his raw power surged.

"Hopefully I don't get addicted to it," the ogre growled, his aura crackling. "Boss wants me to sell this Superdrug more than he wants me to take it, and I still got clients to get to. No stupid nerd is gonna get in my way!"

The transformed ogre raised his massive fists together like a club, bringing them down with enough force to shatter the asphalt. "I'll crush you!"

But Raphael was already a blur. He moved with the "Empty Fist" style, his strikes driving into the ogre's pressure points with surgical precision. Each hit sent concentrated shockwaves ripping through the giant's frame, bypassing his toughened hide to strike deep. The violent vibrations ruptured internal functions, shut down vital organs, and collapsed the surrounding muscles. In a split second, it triggered a complete system override instantly neutralizing the giant's nervous system and leaving every inch of his body paralyzed.

The thief collapsed, his eyes wide in panic as his body refused to respond to his commands. "I... I can't move!"

"You'll be like that for a few hours," Raphael said calmly. He picked up the purse and handed it back to the stunned woman.

"Should I tell the police who you are?" she whispered, looking at the glowing Infinity symbol.

Raphael glanced back, his red aura flaring for takeoff. "One."

He didn't stop there. He was a red streak across the industrial district, moving with a purpose he had never felt before. He intercepted a home invasion, slipping through the front door like a ghost and using the "Empty Fist" to shut down the burglars' nervous systems before they could even draw their weapons.

Then, his ears picked up the roar of a high-performance engine and the panicked shouts of men. "Hurry up! Get the money, get the money!"

His focus skipped across the local landscape, passing over several districts further ahead until his senses locked onto a disturbance. Nearly 5,000 kilometers away, in a high-tech industrial hub bordering the next sector, a blacked-out muscle flying car hovered precariously. It screeched away from a bank, its trunk overflowing with stolen credits.

"We're good!" the driver laughed, checking his monitors. "I told you this town is run by thugs now. No heroes in this entire city, and the surrounding towns are just as empty!"

As they tore through the skies, ignoring every traffic law of the clouds, Raphael appeared. He was flying right beside them, keeping pace effortlessly. He reached out and tapped on the reinforced glass of the driver's side window, his arms crossed over the silver Infinity sigil.

"I think you guys are headed the wrong way," Raphael's voice carried clearly through the windshield. "People work pretty hard for that money."

Inside, the robbers panicked. "I thought you said there were no heroes here!" one yelled.

"He's probably just some nerd kid in a suit!" the leader barked. "Hit the boosters!"

The flying car's jets flared, the vehicle jetting off at high speeds. They drove recklessly, weaving through the sky-lanes and almost clipping other civilian flying cars as they blew through traffic lights. Raphael didn't hesitate. He rushed in front of the car, extending a single hand and pressing it against the hood, bringing the massive machine to a grinding halt in mid-air.

"Run that nerd over!" the leader screamed.

The car groaned, its engines screaming against him, but Raphael stood his ground, anchored by his telekinesis. The robbers retaliated; those without powers fired pulse guns, while those with abilities flared their battle energy and unleashed raw energy blasts from the windows.

Raphael didn't flinch. Using Reverse Counter Flow, his telekinesis wrapped around the incoming bolts and blasts, redirecting the fire right back at the attackers to neutralize the barrage. He then forced his telekinesis directly into the vehicle, seizing its momentum and slamming it to a halt.

With a screech of tearing metal, he unspooled and reshaped the car's frame under his touch. In seconds, the vehicle was transformed into a reinforced hovering cage forged from its own steel, which he infused with his telekinesis to make indestructible.

The robbers screamed, grabbing the bars and shaking them. "Let us out! Let us out!"

The blue and red strobes of police sirens finally bloomed in the distance. As the patrol cars pulled up, officers hopped out with their weapons leveled, shouting, "Freeze! Hands in the air!"

Raphael glanced at the officers, his red aura glowing bright against the night. "They're all yours," he said calmly.

Before they could ask for his name, he ignited his battle energy and vanished into the clouds.

The cool night air was suddenly heavy. After hours of sweeping back and forth through the city, stopping every crime he could reach, Raphael finally took a moment to breathe. He stood on the precarious edge of a skyscraper, eating a sandwich while the wind whipped his white hair, his eyes fixed on the sprawling, neon-lit grit of Omnopolis below.

"I guess the rumors were true," Raphael muttered between bites. "There really aren't any superheroes in this town. Haven't seen a single cape yet just a lot of crime and way too many missing persons posters."

He paused, thinking back to the alley. "That drug the ogre used... whatever was in that syringe spiked his strength and battle energy instantly. Still, it shouldn't be too hard to deal with."

He looked down at the streets, a determined glint in his silver eyes. "It's perfect. I can make a name for myself here. No competition."

Suddenly, his Tactile Telekinesis screamed a warning through the soles of his boots. The vibrations of the rooftop shifted something heavy, fast, and predatory was closing in behind him. Raphael spun, his forearms crossing in a reflex guard, but even with his Kinetas senses, he was a millisecond too slow.

SLASH.

A massive, obsidian claw raked across his guard. The serrated edge ripped through the reinforced fabric of his suit, the material shredding under the colossal force before sinking into the skin beneath. Raphael hissed in pain as he skidded backward, his boots carving grooves into the concrete. He looked down at his forearm; the tear in his silver armor revealed four deep gashes that were already leaking bright crimson.

He looked up, his silver eyes narrowing. Standing before him were three nightmares: two hulking mutation creatures and their refined leader.

The two underlings were absolute abominations deformed, writhing masses of flesh with mismatched limbs jutting out at impossible angles. Mutation Creature One was a cluster of twitching, extra eyes and buzzing, insectoid wings that grated against the air, while Mutation Creature Two dragged a chaotic assortment of spindly, clawed legs and mismatched arms that didn't seem to belong to the same biology. They chattered and drooled, barely containing their feral instincts.

The leader, however, stood apart far more refined than his grotesque underlings, his form appearing almost perfect despite the lethal augmentations. He bore the sleek, powerful marks of a tiger across his skin, a lashing scorpion tail, and jagged, spiky horns protruding from his skull. Unlike the others, he lacked the deformed, extra limbs, standing with a dangerous, calculated symmetry.

"No heroes are allowed in this city," Kymera declared. "All heroes and all bodies must be sacrificed for our Father's experiments. He has been watching you save people all night. You are a perfect specimen. Your data will be used to create the perfect being. Charge!"

The other two creatures lunged, utilizing the chaotic, combined speed and strength of the species fused within them. Mutation Creature One rushed forward, its movements jerky and unnatural. It landed a devastating punch that sent shockwaves rippling through the air, launching Raphael backward.

Hearing the cries for help, Raphael slammed his hand against the ground. His Tactile Telekinesis surged through the foundation, latching onto the falling steel and stone to forcefully rebuild and anchor the structures before they could flatten the residents. Simultaneously, he surged his power into the asphalt, altering its molecular density until the ground became as soft and elastic as rubber. Instead of hitting the hard concrete, the falling citizens bounced safely off the transformed surface.

As the voices of suffering filled the air, compassion stirred deep within his heart, and his Battle Energy began shifting into a surging flare of Battle Spirit Energy.

He stood up slowly, his body battered and bleeding, his energy already humming as it began knitting his wounds shut. Despite the pain, he braced himself against the ruin surrounding him.

The strain of the massive feat took a toll, but he had no time to breathe.

"Pay attention!" Mutation Creature Two growled, appearing instantly at his side. A horrific limb a fusion of five different creature species slammed into Raphael's ribs. The impact launched him into the air, where Mutation Creature One met him with a brutal follow-up, its insectoid wings blurring as it struck with a coordinated, crushing blow.

The blow sent Raphael hurtling downward, crashing into the city streets. As he fell, Mutation Creature One's hands transformed into a flesh-like mechanical cannon, channeling a massive surge of battle energy before unleashing a blast that triggered a roaring explosion across multiple city blocks.

The monster smiled down at the crater. "I put enough battle energy into that to destroy a planet. These citizens are lucky I used my battle energy control to suppress the radius of the explosion; Father still needs people alive for his experiments. But I doubt anyone in that area survived, including that 'hero.' His data will be a perfect addition to the collection. Then me and my brothers and sisters can go back to feasting on these citizens!"

As the smoke cleared, the monster's expression shifted to shock. Raphael was on one knee, breathing heavily, his hand pressed firmly against the ground. His Tactile Telekinesis had flared out to surround multiple blocks, temporarily reinforcing the buildings and making the citizens' cells more dense, matching his own durability. The explosion hadn't hurt those within his reach, but where his power couldn't extend, the devastation was absolute. Beyond his shield lay death and destruction; people were dead, and the skyline was shattered.

Raphael stood up, his voice trembling with rage. "You monster. You will pay for that."

He entered a state of flow, his Battle Spirit Energy rising to a fever pitch. The raw Battle Energy radiating from him intensified, saturating the air and making his every movement sharper, faster, and more potent.

Mutation Creature One and Mutation Creature Two stared him down, impressed. Mutation Creature Two's back suddenly ripped open, sprouting grotesque, mismatched wings that beat with a sickening thud as it hovered into the air.

As they prepared to lunge, both creatures unleashed their suppressed power, their own Battle Energy surging violently around them.

"I guess we have to go all out," they sneered, rushing him.

Raphael snapped into his fighting stance. As they lunged, he began running backward, drawing them in. He danced through a lethal storm of attacks: he ducked beneath a sweeping, chitinous stinger from Mutation Creature One, parried a multi-jointed clawed arm from Mutation Creature Two, and sidestepped a whip-like tail that hissed through the air. His mind became a vacuum, absorbing and memorizing the rhythm of their movements. He waited for the perfect opening, slipping between their guards so they accidentally punched each other with bone-crushing force.

Raphael found the opening. Using his telekinesis to anchor himself to the earth, he delivered a devastating side-kick to Mutation Creature Two. "Vanish," he commanded, launching the beast into the sky.

He immediately rushed the remaining mutation creature using the "Empty Fist." His fingers drove into the beast with surgical precision, sending waves of his telekinesis ripping through its body like shockwaves. The internal vibrations shut down its vital functions, organs, and hearts instantly. He finished the assault with a spinning roundhouse kick that slammed the monster into the pavement, then used a final surge of telekinetic force to drive it deep into the concrete until only its head remained visible.

The first creature reeled back, horrified to see its brother captured. Its battle energy swirled violently as it rushed Raphael, its arm transforming into a flesh-like mechanical cannon once more.

"I'll show you why Father says we are the future of evolution!" it screamed, the weapon humming with a terrifying, mounting glow.

Raphael looked at the devastation around him the shattered glass and the silent buildings. Oh no, he thought, his heart hammering against his ribs. I can't let that blast collide with the city again. They've already killed too many innocent people. He tightened his grip, his eyes locked on the glowing cannon. I could take this shot head-on, he realized, but the collateral damage would be catastrophic.

He dropped into a deep, focused fighting stance, his Tactile Telekinesis coiling tightly around his limbs like a second skin. As the monster unleashed the massive energy blast a torrent of power the size of a city block Raphael didn't hold his ground. He flew straight toward the incoming wave of destruction.

As the searing beam lunged toward him, he didn't dodge. He planted his feet, his Battle Energy flaring outward to meet the impact. The moment he made contact, he felt a tidal wave of volatile energy.

"Reverse Counter Flow!" he gritted out.

Instead of pushing it away, he drew the beam into himself. His telekinesis caught the roaring energy and bound it, wrapping the torrent of power around his body. With a roar, he twisted his torso and launched the bound beam skyward. The energy screamed as it tore through the atmosphere, vanishing into the blackness of space before detonating against one of the countless uninhabitable planets that orbited their massive world like rings obliterating it instantly.

Before the monster could even think of reloading, Raphael closed the gap in a blur of silver and red. He struck the creature with a final, decisive blow, completely shutting down its internal functions.

He hauled the limp form of the cannon-wielder to the ground. With a precise application of his Tactile Telekinesis, he drove the beast into the asphalt, drilling it deep into the concrete until only its head remained visible a mirror image of the second creature he'd disabled. He stood amidst the silent, scorched street for a heartbeat, his eyes darting frantically across the rooftops and jagged ruins. Where is the leader? he muttered, unable to spot him among the debris.

Sirens began to wail in the distance, the flashing lights of police cruisers cutting through the smoke as they converged on the block. Recognizing he had finished the immediate threat, Raphael engaged his flight, launching himself into the sky just as the authorities arrived.

High above on a nearby roof, Kymera watched Rafael retreat from the shadows. A voice crackled through his earpiece, cold and calculating.

"It couldn't be him," the scientist muttered, his fingers hovering over the holographic keys as he watched the live feed of the boy in the silver armor. "It has been only ten years since I last saw Infinity Man the man who opened the possibility for everything I have built. He showed me that we were never meant to be stagnant. He was the catalyst... the proof that we could evolve."

He leaned in closer, the blue light of the monitors reflecting in his cold, wide eyes. "This boy's height is different, and his energy signature is a mere echo of the original... but that rhythm is unmistakable. It isn't just DNA I need. I need his Spirit-Print. I need the Primordial Resonance that anchors his soul to that Battle Energy. It is the only thing capable of bridging the gap to my own perfection the final piece I need to achieve my revenge. He holds the key, the only power that I know can surpass Superior Man."

He paused, a dark, thin smile stretching across his face. "Watch him. Do not kill him. We cannot harvest a Spirit-Print from a cold heart. Let him fight, let his Spirit burn hot... then we take everything he is."

The scientist paused, watching the readout of the planet-shattering redirection. "For now, fall back and observe him. Next time, I will send mutation creatures with higher Battle Energy and far superior battle energy control paired with advanced martial arts. I cannot have them destroying too much. I need enough raw power to eliminate high-level superheroes, but I still require the thousands of different species across this city alive to fuel my experiments."

"Yes, Father," the monster whispered, vanishing into the night.

Raphael scanned the skyline of Omnopolis, but his search for the leader was cut short as fresh screams erupted from the sewers. Monsters were swarming the streets, dragging citizens into the dark.

He didn't hesitate. He tore through the night sky, zig-zagging across the city in seconds. He was a blur of silver and crimson, dashing to the industrial district to intercept a beast, then instantly rocketing to the residential rim to save a family. He moved with impossible speed, jumping between sectors before the monsters could react.

Amidst the industrial carnage, his Kinetas ears caught a sound that didn't belong: a sharp, rhythmic authority cutting through the cacophony. He dropped down and saw her.

She stood amidst the swirling smoke of the district, looking strikingly professional against the backdrop of crumbling steel. She wore a charcoal-grey pencil skirt paired with a crisp, button-down white blouse, her movements calculated and steady despite the tremors shaking the earth. Her long, straight black hair fell like a curtain of ink down her back, shimmering under the neon streetlights. But it was her eyes that held the most power a piercing, dark orange that looked like glowing embers, fixed intensely on the screen of the phone she held in her left hand while her right gripped a professional-grade microphone.

"I'm Topanga, and I'm reporting live from the heart of the downtown sector," she said, her voice projecting with a practiced, fearless clarity. "Once again, our city is being attacked by these... these things. These mutants appear to be a horrific fusion of multiple species aliens from across this region of our country and creatures that defy classification."

She turned her camera toward the street, where the flickering blue lights of police cruisers were being swallowed by the shadows of giant beasts.

"As you can see behind me, the chaos is absolute," Topanga continued, her orange eyes flashing with a mix of anger and resolve. "The police force is doing what they can, but it isn't enough. Even with their high-tech shields and localized pulse weaponry, they are being overwhelmed. Our government has refused to deploy more superheroes to our city, leaving us isolated and undefended. But that doesn't change the fact that you, the people, deserve the truth. If the authorities won't speak, I will."

Suddenly, the air behind her rippled. A fifteen-foot monstrosity a sickening patchwork of scales and fur lunged from a collapsed storefront, snatching her off the ground before she could scream.

Topanga's phone clattered to the asphalt as she swung her microphone like a club, punching her free hand against the creature's iron grip. "Let! Me! Go!"

Then, a red blur closed the distance.

Raphael intercepted the beast, his fist connecting with its jaw. The kinetic shockwave drove straight through the monster, tearing its vital organs and knocking the nightmare unconscious instantly.

As Topanga fell, Raphael caught her in a smooth bridal carry, landing silently on the cracked pavement.

Topanga stared up at her rescuer, her breath hitching. A visible blush crept across her cheeks as her sharp orange eyes locked onto his face, right above the glowing red symbol on his silver armor.

"Are you okay?" Raphael asked, his voice steady.

"I... I am now," she whispered, her voice losing its professional edge for just a second.

Raphael set her down gently, his silver eyes scanning the perimeter for more threats. He looked at her professional attire, then back at the burning skyline of the district.

"You shouldn't be out this late," he said, his voice a low, disciplined rumble. "It's dangerous."

Topanga immediately straightened her skirt, smoothing out the wrinkles with a sharp, brisk motion. She retrieved her phone, her defiance returning like a physical shield.

"And you shouldn't tell me what to do," she countered, her orange eyes flashing. "I'm doing my job. I have a major interview tomorrow, and I'm going to get it. I'm showing up with something real to report showing them the skills I've been working on for years. This city is being left to rot, and the world needs to know the truth. These disappearances at the college, these crimes they need to be investigated. I'm the only one willing to do it, hero or not. Reporters are just as much heroes as you are."

As she spoke, Raphael's gaze fell on the ID lanyard hanging from her pocket. "You go to Rocket University," he noted, his tone shifting. "And you know what's happening with these missing citizens?"

Topanga nodded firmly. "Yeah. That's my school. A lot of my friends have been going missing for months now, ever since these monsters started appearing. I've been following this case from the start."

Before she could finish, Raphael sensed another monster lunging from the shadows. There was no time to move her. He reached out, grabbing her clothing as he surged his Tactile Telekinesis into her. He didn't just shield her; he reinforced her molecular structure, making her body as dense and durable as his own.

The monster slammed a massive fist into both of them. The impact should have crushed a normal human, but they didn't even flinch. They stood like a mountain against the strike. Raphael stepped forward and delivered a single, devastating punch that sent the creature into a heap, unconscious.

Topanga held onto his arm, her eyes wide. "How... how did that not hurt me?"

"Stay back," Raphael commanded, walking toward the downed beast. "Who are you working for? What are you?"

Before the creature could answer, its body began to dissolve into shifting shadows, evaporating into the night. Raphael looked up, noticing the first faint light of dawn breaking over the horizon. He checked his watch and hissed through his teeth.

"Damn it. I haven't slept all night. I've got maybe two hours left if I'm lucky."

Topanga rushed up to him, her phone and mic held high. "Are you part of the Hero Organization? Have they finally sent us someone to help our city?" she asked, the recording light on her phone blinking.

Raphael panicked. "No, no, no!" He reached out, his telekinesis shorting out the phone's recording function.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Topanga cried, swatting at his chest. "People need to know about this!"

"I'm... I'm just a little nervous," Raphael stammered. He quickly caught his reflection in the cracked glass of a nearby storefront, double-checking his appearance. He had to be sure his Tactile Telekinesis was still holding subtly shifting his facial muscles and bone structure just enough so that he looked nothing like his normal human self.

"That's all it is," he said out loud to her.

"Then don't be! Let me interview you!"

Raphael shook his head. "I don't have time."

Topanga looked at her own watch and gasped. "Oh no, I have class in a couple of hours. I don't have time either!"

"I can give you a ride back to your dorm," Raphael offered, looking at the dark streets. "To make sure there are no more monsters."

"I would appreciate that," she said, her voice softening. "What's your name?"

Raphael paused, then replied, "You can call me One."

He picked her up, taking flight and soaring through the cool morning air toward Rocket University. He navigated to the dorm windows, landing silently on her balcony so she could sneak back in.

"Thank you," Topanga said, stepping inside. She paused, leaning back out with a playful smirk. "Remember, you still owe me that interview."

Before he could respond, she leaned forward and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.

"See you later, big guy," she whispered, sliding the window shut.

Raphael stood on the ledge, his face turning a deep shade of red as he touched his cheek. She just kissed me, he thought, stunned. He shook his head to clear it and took off, flying toward his own room to try and catch a few minutes of sleep before his first class.
