Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 - The undecided soul

Humans.

A species that dominates the Earth and the creatures living on it. Their lives follow a simple cycle: they are born, they live, and eventually, they die.

And then the cycle repeats.

Most people believe death is the end—the final curtain call.

But how true is that?

Maybe… there really is an afterlife.

---

"Why does it feel like I'm falling…?"

"My body feels like… like I'm transcending into something else."

"And why the hell is it so dark?"

Davonte's voice echoed through the endless void as he drifted through pure darkness.

Then suddenly—

He hit the ground.

Hard.

The darkness shattered like glass.

In an instant, the void transformed into a massive white hall filled with rows of glass seats. Davonte groaned and slowly stood up, rubbing his head while looking around.

Footsteps echoed.

Davonte turned.

A beautiful blonde woman wearing a striking red dress stood a few steps away from him.

"Davonte, right?" she asked calmly.

Davonte blinked in confusion.

How the hell does she know my name?

"Yeah, that's me," he said. "Now who the hell are you… and where the hell am I?"

The woman smiled gently.

"My name is Tomo. I am a goddess—one of the few selected to guide souls to the afterlife."

She gestured around them.

"This place is called The Final Stop."

Davonte looked down for a moment.

"They actually beheaded me, huh…"

"I'm afraid so," Tomo said softly. "I'm very sorry for your loss."

Davonte scoffed.

"Why? I was a terrible person who deserved death. Now hurry up and send me to Hell already."

Tomo shook her head.

"I don't believe any soul is truly evil. I believe they are just misunderstood."

She raised her hands.

"But as you wish, I'll check where your soul is meant to go."

She pressed her palms together.

A glowing scale appeared between them.

A soft light emerged from Davonte's body and split into two glowing orbs. They floated onto each side of the scale.

They waited.

A moment passed.

Then another.

But the scale didn't move.

It stayed perfectly balanced.

Tomo stared at it in confusion.

Then worry.

She slowly turned toward Davonte.

"I… don't understand."

"Neither Heaven nor Hell is claiming your soul."

"I'm sorry… but I don't know where to take you."

"What?!" Davonte snapped. "You're serious right now?"

Tomo panicked slightly.

"I'm sorry! You're the first soul I've guided, and I never expected to run into an undecided soul!"

"So not even Hell wants me…"

"Not really."

A cold voice cut through the room.

"It's more like you're too bad for Hell… and too good for Heaven."

Another woman walked into the hall.

Her presence immediately changed the atmosphere.

"The reason assistants are never taught how to handle souls like this," she said calmly, "is because they are extremely rare."

Then she looked at Tomo.

Her expression softened slightly.

"Don't worry, Tomo. I'll take care of it."

Tomo hesitated.

"But… big sis… what are you planning to do with him?"

Davonte stepped forward and grabbed Tomo's hand.

"I thought you said I was good, Tomo. Did you change your mind already—"

Suddenly—

Davonte collapsed.

Blood poured from his mouth as violent memories flooded his mind.

At the same time—

Tomo froze.

Her eyes widened.

Images began appearing in her mind.

Davonte's memories.

Pain.

Loneliness.

Violence.

Despair.

Tears instantly filled her eyes.

"Ah…!"

She covered her mouth, shaking.

The second woman noticed immediately.

Her expression changed.

"...I see."

She looked down at Davonte coldly.

"This one is even worse than I thought."

She stepped closer to Tomo.

"What you're experiencing right now is because he's a truly undecided soul."

She looked back at Davonte with disgust.

"Part demon."

"That's why his existence is causing that reaction."

Tomo was still crying.

The woman's eyes hardened.

Her voice became colder.

"You filthy thing."

She walked up to Davonte and kicked him.

Again.

And again.

Davonte glared up at her.

"You're just like the others."

Then he spat on her.

The woman's patience snapped.

A violent force blasted Davonte into a wall.

"Any last words, you polluted being?" she asked.

Davonte coughed.

Then laughed slightly.

"Tomo… you'd get better at your job if you realized something."

"Not all souls can be saved."

"No!" Tomo shouted through tears.

"You're wrong! All souls are good! They just need a push to realize it!"

She looked at Davonte.

"I'm sorry… I couldn't help you."

"You've already suffered so much…"

Davonte looked at the other woman.

"As for you… I hope you choke on your own spit, you hag."

Suddenly—

A hole opened beneath him.

Davonte started falling through the sky.

"But big sis! Won't he die from that height?!" Tomo cried.

"He's already dead," the woman replied calmly.

"Only a soul can kill a soul."

She paused.

"But he'll probably break a few bones."

She turned and walked away, still watching Tomo carefully.

Meanwhile—

Davonte was screaming while falling.

"Oh shit! That bitch was crazy! Am I really about to die again?!"

He noticed a city below.

Maybe I can land on a building…

But a sudden gust of wind pushed him away.

He crashed into a forest.

Hard.

Everything went black.

---

When Davonte woke up, it was nighttime.

Blood ran down his head.

"Damn… that was crazy."

He looked around.

Trees.

Darkness.

Silence.

"Was that all a dream…? Am I back on Earth?"

He started walking, searching for people.

But no one answered.

Then—

A rustling sound came from the bushes.

Something stepped out.

A monster.

Something unlike anything he had ever seen.

"Damn it… what the hell is that thing?!"

Davonte immediately ran.

Why is it following me?!

Fuck… is this thing going to kill me?!

Suddenly—

The creature slashed his back.

Blood spilled.

Davonte turned and punched it.

But the monster only became more aggressive.

It lunged again—

—and bit off his hand.

Davonte screamed.

"Is this Hell?! Why does this hurt so much?!"

His vision began fading.

"You know what… I already gave up on life…"

"So why am I even fighting this thing?"

Then—

A memory appeared.

A girl.

"Wait… why am I remembering her now…?"

"If I think about it… me and her both ended it together…"

A burst of energy exploded from his body.

The monster was thrown backward.

"She is the reason I'm fighting."

"Because of the promise we made."

His hand regenerated.

A dark horn grew from his head.

"She is my light."

"My reason to live… even in the afterlife."

A blade of light formed in his hand.

A halo flickered into existence on the other side of his head.

"I won't die until I tell her how I feel."

He swung his arm.

A wave of energy erased everything in its path.

The monster vanished instantly.

Davonte stared at his hand.

"What… is this power…?"

Then he collapsed.

And fainted.

End.
