Chapter 1 - When Love Became a Lie- CHAPTER 1

CHAPTER 1

Everything began to fall apart the moment Claire discovered she was pregnant.

It had only happened once, one night she had allowed herself to believe in something real, something lasting. Never in her wildest thoughts had she imagined that a single moment of weakness, of love, would lead to this, but it did.

And when she finally gathered the courage to tell Sebastian, everything she had hoped for shattered before her eyes.

The news did not bring warmth or concern. It brought anger.

"I can't be a father to your child," Sebastian snapped, his voice sharp. "How did you even let that happen?"

Claire stood frozen before him, tears already streaming down her cheeks, her hands trembling as she clutched the fabric of her dress.

"I… I don't know," she whispered, her voice breaking. "Please… for the sake of what we once shared… you have to accept this baby."

But Sebastian's expression hardened, even as something flickered briefly in his eyes, something he quickly buried.

"I can't, Claire," he said, more coldly now. "It's Nessa I love. She'll soon be my wife… and she's already pregnant for me."

The words struck her like a physical blow.

"She's the right woman for me," he continued, his tone turning distant, almost mechanical, as though he were convincing himself as much as her. "My parents have approved of her. Nessa is sophisticated, intelligent… She understands my world. She can stand beside me, run my business with me. She's from my class."

Each word dug deeper into Claire's heart.

It wasn't just rejection; it was a comparison. A reminder of everything she was not.

Claire stared at him in disbelief, her chest tightening painfully. This was not the man who had once looked at her with softness, who had spoken of fighting for their love. This was someone else entirely.

And in that moment, a terrifying thought crept into her mind.

Had she been wrong about him all along?

"Were you only using me?" she asked, her voice shaking despite her effort to stay strong. "Why would you deceive me like this?"

Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.

"What if I tell Nessa about us?" she added, desperation slipping into her tone.

Sebastian's reaction was immediate.

"You're just a maid, nothing more, Claire," he said harshly.

"I can't lower myself to marry you or accept that child. Get rid of it… and don't ever come back to me again."

Before she could react, he grabbed her arm and dragged her toward the door. The grip was firm, so different from the gentle touches she once knew.

And then, just like that, he pushed her out.

The door slammed behind her. She stood there for a moment, stunned, her tears falling freely as the weight of everything finally crashed down on her. The man she had loved, trusted, and given herself to had cast her aside as though she meant nothing.

She wiped her tears weakly, her heart aching with a pain she had never known.

She had believed him, believed in his promises. In his words. In the way he looked at her as if she mattered.

He had said he would fight for them; he had made her feel chosen.

And that was why she had given in to him that night… why she had trusted him enough to let him into her world.

But now she saw the truth. It had all been a lie.

By the time she returned home, she was completely broken. Her father's disappointment only made it worse, his harsh words cutting into wounds that were already too deep.

Claire cried herself to sleep that night, drowning in regret.

She hated herself, for believing, for trusting, for loving him so completely.

In the end, she had been nothing more than a mistake in his perfect life.

Used… and discarded.

Claire stood by the window, her gaze fixed on nothing in particular. The world outside moved on as usual, but inside her, everything felt still, heavy… broken.

Tears blurred her vision as she gently placed a hand over her swollen belly... She recalled how it all started. Life had never been kind to her, yet she carried herself with a grace that refused to be broken. To make ends meet, she worked as a maid in the grand residence of Sebastian, one of the country's most powerful business tycoons.

Sebastian was not just wealthy; he was a force. A billionaire whose influence stretched across industries, he owned multiple conglomerates, from luxury real estate and international hotels to tech firms and shipping companies. His name alone commanded respect in elite circles, and his empire seemed to grow with every passing year. To the world, he was untouchable. To Claire, he was simply the man she worked for… and the man she should never have fallen in love with.

She had been in his service for nearly a year when it happened, quietly, unintentionally, and without warning. What began as admiration slowly deepened into something far more dangerous. She found herself falling, completely and helplessly, in love with him. And the most terrifying part? She wasn't alone in it.

Sebastian's feelings for her became increasingly difficult to ignore. It showed in the way his gaze lingered longer than necessary, in the softness of his voice whenever he spoke to her. Yet, there was a painful truth neither of them could escape, Sebastian was already engaged but realizing his feelings for Claire, he found himself withdrawing from his fiancée. The warmth he once showed her faded, replaced by distance and distraction. Conversations grew shorter, visits less frequent. The certainty he once had about his future with her began to crumble, leaving him conflicted and unsettled.

Claire, on the other hand, had her own battles to fight.

When she first got the job at Sebastian's mansion, it felt like a lifeline. Her father had been critically ill, and the medical bills were far beyond what she could afford. Working there gave her hope, a chance to save enough money to get him the urgent treatment he needed. And just as she had prayed for, Sebastian stepped in. Without hesitation, he covered the expenses that Claire could never have managed alone.

Because of him, her father lived.

He recovered fully, regained his strength, and was finally back on his feet. For Claire, it felt like a miracle, one she would forever be grateful for.

With her father healthy again and enough money saved for her education, she made a decision to leave the job and return to school to build a better future for herself.

It wasn't an easy choice.

Sebastian wanted to help her further, offering support, opportunities, anything to make her stay. The thought of her leaving unsettled him more than he cared to admit. He had grown used to her presence… her quiet warmth, her gentle nature, the way she brought life into the otherwise cold and perfect mansion.

She handled every task with care and dedication, moving through the house with a quiet efficiency that never went unnoticed. Whether it was cleaning, organizing, or tending to the smallest details, she gave her all without complaint.

And sometimes, without her knowing, Sebastian would watch.

From a distance, he'd stand silently, a soft, almost unguarded smile on his face as he observed her. There was something about her, something pure and grounding, that drew him in, something no wealth or power had ever given him.

But despite everything, he knew the truth.

Letting her go back to school was the right thing to do, he supported her decision, even when it meant losing her. Yet, everything changed in a single night.

After all he had done for her, saving her father, standing by her, quietly loving her. Claire made a choice of her own. She gave herself to him completely, surrendering to the feelings she could no longer deny.

After six long, painful months of carrying a child alone.

It hadn't been easy, not physically, not emotionally. Every single day has been a battle between strength and heartbreak. Sebastian had meant every word he said that day. She had called him countless times, her fingers trembling with hope each time, but he never answered.

Not once.

She had gone to see him just once, desperate, clinging to the last thread of belief she had in him. But even that had been crushed. He hadn't come out to see her. Instead, he had ordered his guards to chase her away like she was nothing. Like she had never mattered, and that was the day she stopped going back.

After all… he was a married man now.

Nessa had already given birth to a son, the heir to his empire. The perfect life he had chosen.

While she was left behind with scars no one could see.

For a long time, Claire had cried, she had begged, waited but not anymore.

The tears she once shed for him had long dried, leaving behind something far colder… something far stronger.

Slowly, she lifted her head, her fingers curling protectively over her stomach as a bitter smile touched her lips.

"Sebastian…" she whispered, her voice no longer carrying the warmth and love, but edged with something darker.

"You took everything from me."

Her eyes hardened, the last trace of the woman who once loved him fading away.

"So, I'll make sure you lose everything too."

"And this time… I won't come back begging."
