Theon stared at her. For several seconds, he couldn't seem to make sense of the words—Ryan's Luna.
His mind immediately went back to the message sitting on his phone, the words he had just read and replied to not too long ago.
"Can we meet soon? I miss you."
His stomach twisted into a knot so tight it hurt to breathe.
"You're Ryan's Luna?"
Lara nodded slowly. "Yes."
Theon swallowed, his throat dry. He stared at her a little longer, searching her face for something—a tell, a crack, any sign that this was some mistake. But her eyes were steady. Certain. She wasn't lying.
"When did you get married?"
"About five months ago."
Five months. Theon's fingers tightened against the edge of his desk. Five months ago. That was around the same time Ryan had suddenly disappeared from his life for nearly three months. Three months of unanswered calls. Three months of excuses that never quite added up. Three months of lying awake at night, wondering what he'd done wrong.
