"Dad, I've got something to share," Julio announced as he stepped into his father's study.
Lucious sat behind the massive mahogany desk, a black file spread before him. He bent over the papers, his reading glasses perched low on his nose, and he didn't so much as twitch when the door clicked shut behind Julio.
Lucious didn't look up. His finger traced a line of text. "What is it?"
Julio walked further into the room and stopped at the edge of the desk. "Our people at the hospital just sent word."
Lucious's hand stilled on the paper. He looked up, his eyes sharp and calculating behind the lenses. He removed the glasses slowly and deliberately, then placed them on the desk. "About the girl?"
Julio shook his head, a grin already tugging at the corner of his mouth. "No. It's Vael."
Lucious's brows creased. He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking in protest. "What about him?"
"Vael was admitted overnight," Julio replied.
Lucious dropped the file. "What's wrong with him?"
