Vessara blinked, surprise creasing her expression as she looked up at him. "It…it's fine." She nodded. And they resumed walking towards the car.
Apollo started the car and pulled away from the parking lot. Silence settled between them as they hit the highway.
Runn surfaced, the firm voice cutting through Vael's quiet moment. "You should say something."
Vael didn't respond. His gaze remained fixed on the window, watching his own reflection stare back at him with hollow eyes.
"Hello! Can I have your attention?" Runn paced.
Vael let out a frustrated sigh. "What would you have me say now?"
"Anything." Runn pressed. "A thank you for coming to the hospital. For bringing me soup . For agreeing to review the Lancelot project," The wolf listed. "And you know she didn't have to do these things."
"I know," Vael murmured, so quietly the sound barely escaped his lips.
