Synopsis
In a world where magic is currency, power is law, and alcohol is the most dangerous contraband alive, one man has nothing.
Kreil has no magic. In a city that measures worth by ability, that makes him less than nothing — unregistered, unremarkable, and largely invisible to the forces that run the world from the shadows. He scrapes by on the edges of a city that glitters on the surface and rots underneath, a place where five criminal empires carve up the streets between them and the government looks the other way as long as the right palms stay greased.
But the city is changing.
Rifts — tears in the fabric of reality itself — are appearing with increasing frequency, spilling monsters into the jazz-lit streets and speakeasy alleys. The five mafias that control everything from the liquor supply to the court system are watching each other with itchy trigger fingers, each sensing that the balance of power is about to shift. And somewhere above it all, a goddess named Velara watches the whole beautiful mess with the patient amusement of someone who has already decided how interesting things are about to get.
When a chance encounter pulls Kreil into the orbit of the city's criminal underground, he finds himself navigating a world of shifting loyalties, buried secrets, and violence dressed up in expensive suits. He has no power. He has no allies. He has no reason to survive any of this.
And yet he does. Every time. Against every odd.
Something is keeping Kreil alive. He doesn't know what it is. The people around him are starting to notice. And in this city, being noticed is the most dangerous thing of all.
The End of Nothing is the story of a man who appears to matter to no one — and may in fact be the only person who matters at all.
