Emperor of Mankind
The Emperor of Mankind, also referred to by the Imperial Cult and the Adeptus Ministorum as the God-Emperor of Mankind, is the sovereign ruler of the Imperium of Man, and Father, Guardian, and God of the human race. He has sat immobile within the Golden Throne of Terra for ten thousand years. Although once a living man, his shattered body can no longer support life, and remains intact only by a combination of ancient technology and the sheer force of his will, itself sustained by the soul-sacrifice of countless millions of psykers.
His will is omnipotent, extending across the hundreds of billions of worlds that comprise his Imperium. For ten thousand years the Master of Mankind has served Humanity, simultaneously carrying out a multitude of tasks vital to its survival. He simultaneously guides his race through the Emperor's Tarot, soul-binds psykers, holds audiences with his most important servants and directs the Astronomican beacon that guides space vessels through the Warp. His immense psychic powers constantly keep the Chaos Gods in the Warp at bay, preventing their intrusion into the material universe and protecting his people throughout the Galaxy.
The Emperor's role as guardian of mankind seems to have been predestined for him. Without the Emperor there would be no Imperium, little space travel and no protection from the multitude of threats facing mankind. The Emperor knows that to protect his race he must survive as long as necessary for the emerging race of psychic humans to evolve sufficiently.
In the millennia since his ascension to the Golden Throne, the Emperor has become a god to his people, the worship of him uniting Humanity throughout his Imperium, superstition and dogma replacing his doctrine of Imperial Truth.
The Dark King
The Dark King is a theoretical fifth Chaos God that has been prophesized by both eldar and humans throughout history but is first mentioned overtly during the final stages of the Siege of Terra in the Horus Heresy. When in the presence of the Dark King, Ollanius Persson felt not the presence of a maker, but an unmaker; "a force of merciless judgement, sublime fury, and cruel rationality."
While initially speculated to be the Chaos-corrupted Horus or the Daemon Samus, it eventually became apparent that the Dark King was destined to in fact be the Emperor of Mankind.
Star Child
The Star Child in Warhammer 40,000 is a concept representing the immortal soul of the Emperor of Mankind, cast adrift in the warp and potentially awaiting rebirth. It is generally understood as the fragment of the Emperor's humanity, compassion, and hope that he shed during his final battle with Horus, making it a potential catalyst for the Emperor's resurrection.
Constantin Valdor
Constantin Valdor ('Emperor's Spear'), the First of the Ten Thousand, was the Chief Custodian to the Emperor of Mankind as Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes at the time of the Unification Wars, Great Crusade, and the Horus Heresy.
The origins of Constantin Valdor are mysterious. According to Amar Astarte, his original parents were killed by the Emperor, who moved entire armies across continents to locate and retrieve him. Valdor himself knows very little of his past before becoming the Emperor's servant. While commonly accepted as the first Custodes, Valdor does not recall if he was truly the first Custodian, or simply the first successfully produced one. He served during the Unification Wars at the Battle of Maulland Sen. A handful of years later, he assassinated Koja Zu, the Minister of the Anuatan Steppes, and claimed her son, Ra Endymion, for the Legio Custodes. During the Battle of Maulland Sen, Valdor witnessed the savagery of the Thunder Warriors and became worried over their future.
Valorian
OC Custodian. First scene in Chapter 3. I have special plans for him and he will later become a tribute character.
Jenetia Krole
Jenetia Krole (sometimes spelled Jenetta Krole, also known as the Soulless Queen of the Imperium, was the Knight-Commander of the Silent Sisterhood and Chief Investigatus-Militant of the Divisio Astra Telepathica during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. She led the Silent Sisterhood during the Battle of Prospero and the War Within the Webway. She was one of the Emperor's three main advisors and a lynchpin of his war council during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, alongside Constantin Valdor and Malcador the Sigilite.
Malcador
Malcador is the Emperor's most loyal aide and stood by his side until his death upon the Golden Throne.
Malcador the Sigillite, also known as Malcador the Hero by decree of the Emperor was the First Lord of Terra as well as the Grand Master of Assassins during the Horus Heresy. He was a powerful psyker who could communicate over long distances and wield immense power. He was a close adviser to the Emperor during the Unification Wars, and the man credited with founding the Administratum of Terra. The origins of Malcador remain a mystery, and are unknown save to the Emperor himself. According to Malcador himself, by the time of the Horus Heresy he was over 6,700 years old and remembers his date of birth to the second. Malcador was a surviving member of an ancient order known as The Sigillites, which sought to gather and preserve the greatest and most powerful artifacts in Human history. According to Jaghatai Khan the true identity of Malcador was discovered by Horus. Horus told the Khan that Malcador's original name was Brahm al-Khadour, a Perpetual known as a cursed wanderer. The Khan went on to say that Brahm al-Khadour had committed great atrocities during Old Night.
Alpharius
Alpharius Omegon (also known as the Last Primarch or the Lord of Serpents) was a pair of primarchs created by the Emperor in the earliest days of the Imperium, just after the end of the Age of Strife. Like the other primarchs, he was supposedly scattered from Terra by the Gods of Chaos and placed on a far-away world in an attempt to prevent the coming of the Age of the Imperium. In truth, Alpharius Omegon are twins known as Alpharius and Omegon respectively, though they describe themselves as one soul in two bodies. While often considered the last primarch to be discovered, they may have been the first. However, according to Alpharius himself, this account is a lie.
"Alpharius Omegon" is an enigmatic figure within the history of the Legiones Astartes. No definitive record of their appearances and activities exist. There are claims that Alpha Legion Marines assumed the name and identity during wars and even council meetings with other Legions and Imperial officials, that Alpharius was somehow able to duplicate himself, and that he had a twin. Reports of his physical appearance seem to widely differ.
Erda
Erda is a Perpetual that is considered to be the most powerful of her kind, after the Emperor.
Erda grew to adore the Emperor and she became one of the many Perpetuals that aided him in his task. In time, though, the Emperor's arrogance and the risks he took to accelerate Mankind's future caused most of the Perpetuals to leave him. A few like Erda and the Sigillite stayed by his side, but the departures drove the Emperor to begin creating loyal artificial Perpetuals to ensure his plan would succeed. This led to the beginning of the Primarchs' creation, which both Erda and Astarte aided with. As the project began, Erda's skills as a geneticist greatly aided the Emperor, but he later also required her rare gene-stock for the Primarchs to be born. Combining Erda's genes with the Emperor's resulted in the birth of the Primarchs (making Erda functionally their mother in the same way the Emperor is their father), but Erda was prevented from taking part in their lives as the Emperor prepared them for the Great Crusade. She despaired at the bitter future the Emperor had planned for them, with the Primarchs forcing humanity to claim the galaxy, and she tried to save her sons from him. While they were still infants, Erda caused the creation of a warp vortex which scattered the Primarchs across the galaxy, and then went into hiding for many years. Erda was living in exile at Guelb, an ancient site in Mauritania close to her birthplace. Living with a group of servants and the Space Marine Leetu, she was eventually visited by John Grammaticus. Erda revealed her true essence to be a tripartite being: a dark-skinned woman wielding a staff, a crone capable of freezing anything she touched, and youthful girl wielding a sickle. These forms unleashed a tornado of psychic energy, and after a vicious battle, struck down all four of the daemons.
Ollanius Persson
A Perpetual and mysterious figure in history related to the myth of Ollanius Pius. In Terra's ancient past, Ollanius acted as the Warmaster of the Emperor's armies.
During a war in East Phoenicia against a Chaos Cult said to be the proto-Cognitae, the Emperor and Ollanius' armies besieged a massive tower etched in Enuncia that was being erected. After emerging victorious, Ollanius sought to destroy the tower and all the dark knowledge it contained. However the Emperor refused, instead wishing to preserve the knowledge for use against future threats. Disenchanted with the Emperor, Ollanius stabbed him with a dagger before using Enuncia to destroy the tower and escape.
