Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 The Shadow Approaches

Securing a valuable draw from Highbury, especially with his crucial goal against the formidable Arsenal, propelled Cristiano Ronaldo to unprecedented heights. He was no longer just a "promising young star," but widely recognized as one of Manchester United's and even the Premier League's most lethal attackers.

Praise poured in, and even the notoriously critical England legends began comparing him to historical winger icons on television. The number of fans waiting for autographs outside the training ground multiplied several times over, and sales of his number 7 jersey skyrocketed, making him an overnight sensation.

However, the turning point in fate often occurs at the most glorious moment.

In what seemed like an ordinary Premier League match, Manchester United faced the tenacious Bolton Wanderers. With the game past the 60th minute, United were already two goals ahead, their victory practically assured.During a throw-in in the attacking third, Cristiano Ronaldo, off the ball, prepared to cut into the penalty area.

Just as he pushed off the ground, a sharp, tearing pain shot through the muscles on the back of his left leg!

"Ugh!" He groaned, instantly losing his balance and falling onto the grass, clutching the back of his thighs tightly with both hands.

The team doctor immediately rushed onto the field with his medical kit. After a brief examination and questioning, the doctor's expression turned serious, and he gestured to the sidelines to make a substitution.

The cheers at Old Trafford abruptly ceased, replaced by worried whispers. The camera followed Cristiano Ronaldo as he was helped off the field by two team doctors, his left foot unable to bear any weight, and his face contorted in pain.

Sir Alex Ferguson stood on the sidelines, his face grim.It seemed his worst fears had come true. His young body had finally given way under the strain of high-intensity, high-frequency play.

Preliminary diagnosis: Grade 1 hamstring strain in the left leg, expected to be out for three to four weeks.

As soon as the news broke, the media immediately shifted their focus.

All the previous praise seemed to have never existed, replaced by various "rational" analyses and veiled doubts.

The Times published an article titled: "The Curse of Genius?Cristiano Ronaldo's High-Intensity Playing Style Raises Injury Concerns."

The Daily Mirror's headline was even more sensational: "Manchester United's number seven embroiled in 'glass man' rumors, could massive investment go down the drain?"

Online, some extreme fans and haters have become active: "See?I told you his style of play wouldn't last!" "He relies on his physique; one injury and he's finished!"

Suddenly, "injuries" and "fragile constitution" seemed to become new labels attached to him.

Lying on the sofa in his apartment, watching the experts' analyses on TV and the alarmist headlines in the newspapers, Cristiano Ronaldo felt incredibly conflicted. He could endure the physical pain, but the feeling of being easily lifted up and then brutally thrown down by public opinion made him acutely aware of the coldness and indifference of the world.

Agent Mendes was on the phone the whole time, dealing with the media crisis, his tone anxious.

"Jorge, be quiet," Ronaldo suddenly said, his voice calm.

Mendes paused for a moment and looked at him.

"Injuries are part of being an athlete." Ronaldo looked out the window, his eyes deep, as if recalling something."This little storm is nothing."

He knew better than anyone that this was just a minor episode in his long career. He was even somewhat relieved that it was only a grade one strain, rather than one of those devastating injuries. Moreover, his mind was filled with more scientific and systematic rehabilitation concepts for the future.

He picked up the phone and called the club's head physiotherapist directly: "Sir, I'd like to incorporate some of my own ideas into my rehabilitation plan."

He dictated an extremely detailed rehabilitation program that incorporated advanced futuristic concepts, including specific muscle activation, flexibility training, aquatic recovery, and nutritional supplementation. The physical therapist on the other end of the phone was stunned; many of the concepts were unheard of, yet upon closer examination, they made perfect sense.

"Cristiano, where.where did you learn all this?"

"I enjoy studying sports medicine," Ronaldo replied casually.

At that moment, as Mendes looked at the frighteningly calm young man before him, he suddenly felt that the clamor and doubts of the media seemed so ridiculous and short-sighted in the face of this young man.

He was not facing a genius who would be defeated by injuries and rumors, but a monster who could foresee the future and control his own destiny
