Chapter 17 - sparring with the MC [1]

I haven't used my Trajectory Eye yet.

The next attack was aimed straight for my face.

Somehow, I managed to twist my body to the side, and the edge of his sword barely missed my cheek. I stumbled back, using another burst of power to gain more distance.

"Running already?"

Verdric's sword clattered to the floor, and the other students cheered and laughed.

Of course, I'm running already, what does this bastard think?! If I didn't have enough time to avoid his attack, I would've had my face split open by now...

...but, thankfully for me, I've been practicing combat techniques for quite a while now.

What is it that I practice, you ask?

I think it was before I entered the labyrinth and found its entrance, so that the quest had still been taking place, and I'd needed to use my Trajectory Eyes every day. One afternoon, it occurred to me that perhaps it would be helpful to practice with a weapon while using them.

The weapon of my choice was a medium-level two dagger.

It was a perfect weapon for me, considering my lack of skill with swords; it was light, quick, and easy to handle. The only disadvantage to it was its range, which was rather limited, and thus required one to get rather close to one's opponent. Now, getting close to an opponent is something of a gamble, as one cannot really afford to make any mistakes in one's movements.

Anyway, back to the present. I stood still, waiting for Verdric to make his next move, my heart pounding in my ears.

Ding.

[Trajectory Eyes used.]

My field of vision changed to blue, thin lines of arrows appearing all around me, denoting the paths of incoming attacks.

"!!?"

[HEAD.]

I managed to avoid his attack once more, but this time, it wasn't enough. Before I could react, Verdric had already closed the distance between us, and he brought the flat of his blade down on my abdomen with all of his might.

"Uhk--?!"

I yelp in pain. Dammit, he's fast... even with the Trajectory Eyes, I couldn't react in time...

It took a lot of effort, but I managed to get to my knees, clutching my stomach.

The students around me looked like they expected me to give up already.

Verdric gave me a hand. "You okay?"

He sounded bored, as if he had expected me to give up already, as well.

...But for me,

he was mistaken, most definitely.

I haven't tried my best yet..how am I gonna know when the chance of my survival in thus World I am counting on?

Is my fighting style is going to be affective?

Is my knowledge in this game going to be affective?

All that thoughts came in one conclusion.

I need to get up and test it for myself.

So, with this in mind, I accepted his help, and got to my feet, still clutching my stomach. "No. I am not finished."

Verdric's face didn't change, save for his eyes, which narrowed slightly, and he drew his sword. The students fell silent; apparently, they hadn't been expecting me to get back up, and most of them thought that I had already lost. For them, it was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't. I knew that as long as I had my skill, my body, and my will, nothing could stop me.

but never did I knew this is going to be the one I regret it the most.
