Chapter 17 - The Pain of Pushing Her Away

Sara had slowly recovered now. Her fever had gone down, and she finally regained consciousness. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself once again inside the hospital room. Sitting in front of her was Doctor Kevin, busy with some work.

The moment Sara saw him, happiness appeared on her face. She slowly tried to sit up.

Kevin noticed her waking up and said in a cold, professional tone, "Good, you're awake now."

His behavior hurt Sara deeply. She looked into his eyes innocently and asked softly, "Did I do something that upset you?"

Kevin gave a faint smile and replied, "Why would anything you do upset me, Sara? And one more thing… call me Doctor Kevin, not Kevin. This is neither your home nor am I your friend anymore."

The harshness in his words pierced Sara's heart like broken glass. Her eyes instantly filled with tears. She could not believe that this was the same Kevin who had once stood beside her through everything, the same man who had promised to support her whenever she needed him. Today, he felt like a complete stranger.

With tears trembling in her eyes and a fake smile on her lips, Sara looked at him once again and said softly,

"Maybe you're right. You are not the Kevin I knew… and maybe I'm talking to a completely different person today."

"I'm really sorry that I called you Kevin. I thought we were good friends forever, but I guess I misunderstood everything. Now I understand that we are not friends anymore."

As she spoke, tears rolled down her cheeks.

On the other side, Kevin was struggling with his own emotions. Deep inside, all he wanted was to hold her face gently and wipe away her tears with his own hands. But he forced himself to stay distant because he did not want to come between Sara and Riyan. No matter how painful it was, he believed this was the only right thing to do.

Trying harder to push her away, Kevin spoke even more coldly.

"Madam, please stop this drama. This is a hospital, not your dubbing studio. You are completely fine now, so you can leave. And honestly, I don't want to get embarrassed because of you."

Sara was shattered from inside. Nothing about his behavior felt real to her. She wiped her tears, got down from the bed confidently, and looked straight into his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Doctor Kevin, if I embarrassed you. I hope we never meet again."

Without saying another word, she quietly walked out of the room.

The moment Sara left, Kevin's strength broke completely. He sat down heavily on the bed, took a deep breath, drank some water, and slowly became emotional.

Looking down, he whispered to himself,

"I'm really sorry, my beautiful… I never wanted to hurt you. But I had no other choice. Maybe for your happiness and mine, it's better if you start hating me."

Meanwhile, Sara sat inside her car and drove away silently. Even now, she could not believe that those cruel words had truly come from Kevin. Her heart felt unbearably heavy.

A few days later, Sara's medical reports finally arrived. The moment Kevin checked them, he was completely shocked.

The reports revealed that Sara had been taking extremely dangerous medicines. The side effects of those medicines were exactly the reason she had suffered dizziness and vomiting that day in the hospital. Worse, those drugs were so harmful that they could even put her life in danger.

Kevin immediately became worried for her.

"But why would Sara take medicines that could harm her like this?" he thought anxiously. "The medicines I prescribed her were completely safe. Then what exactly is she taking? I need to find out the truth. I can't let her life stay in danger like this."

Just then, another patient entered Kevin's cabin. Her name was Emma.

The moment Emma saw Kevin, she was completely mesmerized by his appearance. She couldn't stop staring at him.

In her mind, she thought, "God… this doctor is so handsome. Perfect looks, perfect blue eyes, and such a perfect smile."

Kevin quickly noticed her unusual behavior and assumed she was distracted because of her condition. He snapped his fingers lightly in front of her face.

"Hello? Did you just see an alien or something?" he joked.

Emma awkwardly came back to reality and said nervously, "No… I think I'm just not feeling well, that's why."

Kevin smiled softly. "It's okay. That happens sometimes."

As Kevin treated her, Emma unlocked her phone. On the wallpaper was a picture of her standing beside Sara, smiling like two inseparable best friends.

The moment Kevin saw Sara's photo, his attention instantly shifted.

He looked at Emma and asked carefully, "Do you know the girl in this picture with you?"

Emma smiled warmly. "Of course I do. She's my childhood best friend. We've been together since forever. But why are you asking? Do you know her?"

Kevin nodded slowly. "Yes… I know her. She used to be my patient."

Suddenly, Emma's expression turned sad. Seeing her reaction, Kevin handed her a tissue and asked gently,

"What happened? Did I ask something wrong?"

Emma shook her head softly.

"No, Doctor Kevin… it's just that I truly feel very bad for Sara."

Kevin's expression became serious.

"Can you please tell me in detail what you mean?"
