I turned and walked out, keeping my steps calm until I was fully out of the dining room, and only then did I allow myself to breathe a little easier. The air outside felt lighter, even though nothing had really changed.
Not long after, Hanith came to inform me that the car was ready, and she stood by the door with her usual calm expression, her hands folded neatly in front of her.
"For the hospital, ma'am," she said gently.
My heart skipped slightly at that, and I paused for a moment before nodding. "Oh… okay."
I wasn't sure why I felt nervous, but it settled deep in my chest, quiet but steady. Maybe it was because this made everything real in a way I couldn't ignore anymore. This baby. This situation. This life I had somehow stepped into without fully understanding how.
Before I could think too much, Gianna appeared, her presence as lively as ever.
"I'm coming with you," she said brightly, like it was already decided.
I blinked, a little surprised. "You are?"
