ELARA POV
I was back in the lab yet again, the place I thought I could escape. I had lied to Raya, saying I was not frightened at all. I was extremely scared because I did not even know what I was facing. What if he actually was a wolf and I had to deal with an animal in human form? It made no sense to me. I walked slowly into where he was being chained down, his head facing the ground, and I could hear him breathing heavily. I stood in front of the table, bringing out all his necessary files due to all their experiments. I looked at him, confused.
"Are you really a wolf?" I asked as he laughed, not even looking up at me.
"I told you to get the hell out of here. You won't last a week trying to tame me. You can't do it no matter what. Whatever torture you try on me this time around, I won't say a word to you. I promised you that before. I don't know why you're still persistent. I thought you were going to quit," he said as I dropped my pen.
Gently bracing myself, I walked toward him. He raised his head up to me, and his eyes were so red I couldn't help but stagger a few feet backward.
"That won't push me away," I said boldly as he laughed.
"Who said I was pushing you away? All I want is for you to stop this work. You won't earn anything from this, Elara," he said as I looked surprised.
But then I remembered my name was actually on my badge. I scoffed.
"Stop acting mysterious. You saw my name on my badge. You don't have to call my name like that just to scare me," I said to him while trying to keep my composure as he laughed.
"No, I did not check your badge to know who you are. I already knew you were coming, and I'm warning you: avoid any future casualties by leaving this place. You are just a pawn in their game, and you don't even know it yet," he said, making me even more confused.
"Can you stop already? Can we stop with all this cryptic speech? Tell me about you. Tell me where you come from, about your wolf family," I said in a mocking tone.
He did not say anything to me. I bent down to his level and lifted his chin up as he looked at me, surprised.
"Why are you getting so close to me? I can actually attack you, you know. Right?" he said as I laughed.
"No, you can't. You are chained up from head to toe. Even your body parts are in danger if you make any unnecessary move. I am more than protected. Aside from that, I am not here to be frightened by you. There's nothing you're going to do that will make me scared of you. You've done your worst on my first day. I don't think you can do worse than that," I said, and before I could even conclude my speech, he cut me off.
"No, actually I can do worse. If you give me the chance to, I can transform and kill you. At this point, do you really think I can't get out of here if I want to?" he said, trying to scare me again.
I scoffed.
"I know you can't get out of here if you wanted to. You don't have to try to scare me. If you could have escaped, you would have left months ago when you were being tortured. Now hear this: I am not here to torture you. I am here to get to know you, to know what you are, why you exist, where you come from, everything and anything. You can start from anywhere. You can introduce yourself to me. I'm not going to use any electric shocks or call the guards, I promise you. As long as you don't harm me. Because compared to you, I have only one life, not nine," I said sarcastically as he turned his head to the other side, pulling his chin free from my grip.
He then knelt on the ground as I stood up, surprised he was able to pull away so easily.
"I've been standing all day. At least can I get a chair if you want to know me?" he said as I hurriedly stood up, rushed to get him a chair, and placed it just behind him as he took a seat.
He seemed so calm; he gave off an aura that felt like, even if he came from a wolf territory or whatever Raya called it, he was somebody powerful there.
"I bet you were a king," I simply stated as he looked at me, puzzled.
"How did you know?" he said as I laughed.
Not because I got it right, but because he actually believed he was a king. I couldn't help but tap my lap continuously, the laughter unbearable.
"You really think you are a king? Oh my God, I was just joking with you," I said, holding my chest as I tried to calm down.
I couldn't believe my first guess about him had been right, or maybe he was just playing a trick on me.
"I am not exaggerating. I am actually a Lycan Alpha. You are holding down a king of a very powerful territory. Let me go, and you would never regret it," he said as I dismissed his words.
"No, I won't let you go. And you're no Lycan Alpha. Do you understand?" I said to him.
I stood up to go to his space to confirm this, and just then I saw it, the thing they had assumed to be a Lycan Alpha.
"Now do you believe?" he said, but his lips did not move.
Was he talking to me through his mind?
