The air within the Forbidden Kingdoms was an insult to life itself. The atmosphere was not composed of oxygen, but of a thick and moving layer of Khao, that energy of hatred and decomposition proper to the Rakshasas, which stagnated in the palace corridors like a toxic fog.
The walls were sculpted in obsidian and the fossilized bones of dragons from the Era of Origins. In the center of the great audience hall, on a raised platform, stood a throne that seemed literally alive. This blood-soaked throne dripped with a viscous scarlet fluid that perpetually flowed along the black stone steps, accumulating in rivulets in the cracks of the floor.
On this nightmarish seat sat a woman whose mere presence was enough to compress the Dantian of any cultivator below the demigod realm.
