The reason Bonnie Callahan's relatives had died so quickly was likely because she and her brother had killed that Serpent Maiden. The Serpent Maiden in control died, so no one was left to direct them. Once they lost control, they naturally perished.
She mentioned this to her brother and Zachary Pierce. Pierce had plenty of smart people on his side; if she gave them a few hints, they would know the best course of action.
It was a great relief for Faye Yardley not to have to handle it herself.
