Chapter 7 - REMNANT: VII VANTIR

I should probably not stress over it too much.

After all, going to places doesn't pay me anything.

This amusement part is noisy and chaotic as hell.

but not just the sounds....

Maybe everything.

Lights flickered overhead in restless patterns, colours bleeding into one another like they couldn't stay still.

Wow.. Am I becoming some sort of poet? Since when did I decided to pay so much attention to everything? It's laughable.

Everything I am now doing feels as instinct.

Maybe something happened..

Maybe...?

But still..

Laughter.. something I am not really familiar with

-echoed everywhere until it became nothing but restless noise.

The air smelled of sugar and smoke, like something sweet layered over something burnt.

It reminds me of mother's caramelized donuts.

They never tasted perfect.

The shape was uneven. And the edges where the brown sugar had caramelized were always brunt slightly.

I remember eating them on my birthdays when mother was still around...

And I als-

"V!! Look over there!

Kenny's voice cut through my thoughts before they could settle. I blinked, the faint trace of that lingering sweetness in the air slipping away as I focused on him. He stood in front of me with that usual careless expression, one hand shoved into his pocket while the other pointed somewhere above us.

His sleek and brown hair was flowing and shifted with the wind.

"Don't tell me..." He looked at me with squinting eyes, maybe he's half annoyed, or half amused.

"- that you're zonin' out again"

I felt that one coming.

Anyways, I followed his gesture to look upwards and I find myself glaring at Kenny when I lower my gaze from the devilish looking roller coaster.

"You're not serious about this, are you?"

I mean, what are we? Some lost looking elementary school kids?

I looked above me once again, and Kenny did the same.

The roller coaster towered over the park, its twisted tracks looping and plunging like something unstable, barely held together.

"Are you suggesting we ride in this? No, I am good. I still wish to live longer."

"Stop acting like a geezer. That's why children don't like you." Kenny said with a smile and his arms folded.

Behind him, Revin, as always stood behind him

"umm...I think we'll be fine. I mean-" Revin spoke as he took out some kind of manual.

"- that's what family and friends do when spending time on a weekend, right?" He seemed to question himself as he flips the pages one by one.

" And look, it says right here that they also-" He continued until Kenny stopped him.

"Ok yeah Revin, my boy, we get it. You've done your research well, and now.." He continued.

"- a good child must be rewarded, shouldn't he, MOTHER?" He completed his say as they both looked playfully at me.

And that was the last straw.

So....

I decided to go along with it.

"So, well? What should we do, FATHER?" I said as I smirked at him.

"Glad you asked. Let's go ride that .... and that!" he said as he indicated towards at a fast moving train.

"- and then we eat those apple candies and donuts and cream cakes and-"

" Yeah yeah, now I wonder who the CHILD is among us right now?" I couldn't fight back my smile as I said that.

Kenny laughed, but it softened into something much calmer and quieter.

"Doesn't matter.....as long as we can remain like this"

" Yes.....It doesn't" I returned that smile as I look at him.

For a moment, I wished time would stop right here.
