Phoebe Faulkner gazed at Jace Lennox. His features had softened considerably. It wasn't just the lighting or the tone of his voice; he just seemed gentler all around.
'Things she liked?'
There weren't many things Phoebe Faulkner liked. She loved her two brothers, and she loved to dance.
Just as Phoebe's mind began to wander, Jace slowly helped her relax before entering her. But the instant Jace entered, Phoebe's entire body tensed up.
The tightness made even Jace's brow furrow.
"No! Get out! It hurts! Get out! Get the hell out!"
Phoebe cried out in pain, pushing at Jace relentlessly.
Phoebe's struggling was driving Jace nearly insane.
"It's okay, it's okay." Jace kissed Phoebe's cheek. "Relax. You have to relax, or I can't pull out."
But Phoebe refused to relax, her body remaining rigid.
Jace could only keep trying to soothe her, kissing her, until he finally said, "Your older brother is much tougher than you. He wouldn't even cry out if he took a bullet."
