"You're awake?" Jace's voice rang out from above her.
Phoebe heard him but pretended she hadn't, keeping her head buried under the covers. However, the slight tremble of the comforter betrayed her, telling anyone watching that the person hiding beneath it was already awake.
Jace placed the milk and bread on the bedside table.
He started to pull back Phoebe's covers, but his hand froze in mid-air.
"I left breakfast on the bedside table. Eat it when you get up."
After he spoke, he gazed at the lump under the covers for another moment. Seeing that she was still hiding, too shy to come out, he didn't press her any further.
He turned and walked out the door.
However, he paused at the doorway and turned back to the figure on the bed. "I've already called the office for you. If you're not feeling well today, just stay home. Don't go in."
Hearing this, Phoebe stirred under the covers and poked her head out.
Jace was already gone, and he had pulled the door closed behind him.
