A strong scent of medicine filled the vast room. Zoe Rhodes couldn't contain her impatience and felt the urge to rush in several times.
Fortunately, Nathan Bennett was holding her hand, a silent reminder that there were others present.
On the large bed in the center of the room, a man slept quietly, surrounded by beeping medical instruments.
Just one look was enough to make Zoe Rhodes's eyes redden.
She almost didn't recognize the man on the bed.
She didn't know how long he'd been like this. The man showed no trace of his former vitality. His tall frame was like a crumbling mountain range; his past glory long gone, leaving behind only dust dancing over ruins.
He had been so healthy, but now he was nothing but skin and bones. Even the rise and fall of his chest was so faint it was barely visible.
Zoe Rhodes quickly looked away, unable to bear the sight any longer.
The licensed massage therapist had hired from the mainland was massaging Ethan Rhodes.
