Chapter 17 - 17

My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale

Yue Yiyue remembered the rules from the script-killing game. Once she confirmed there was no bread left, she left. Just as she was about to pass through the main entrance, the store owner suddenly spoke.

"The clothes should be put in the cabinet, or they might attract other things." He seemed to be muttering to himself, but Yue Yiyue knew clearly he was talking to her.

"The pants, the pants should stay right there… Such a lucky child… Only then can you escape my pursuit… After all, I truly hate clothes like that…"

"And, the last piece of bread." The bread flew in an arc toward Yue Yiyue.

Yue Yiyue instinctively reached out and caught the bread, pretending not to hear the meaning of his previous words. She politely thanked the owner, walked back, and paid for the bread. She checked the things in her hand, confirming she hadn't missed anything. Her gaze seemed to catch a reflection on the side window glass, which showed a man whose head and body were slightly separated. He was struggling to hold his head, squatting beside a short shelf, with broken glasses and wounds on his face… In the next second, he vanished, as if it were only Yue Yiyue's hallucination…

The owner watched the young girl leave in a hurry. He looked at her flustered back with interest; she didn't even try to make small talk. How interesting. A man suddenly walked out from behind the short shelf. He also looked at Yue Yiyue's retreating figure, sneered, and tossed two boxes of instant noodles onto the counter: "Check out."

Returning to the dormitory in the evening, taking advantage of Zhang Yang and Fan Ning's absence, Yue Yiyue followed the owner's advice and locked the clothes in the cabinet. What was interesting was that the cabinet, which had only contained a single ordinary piece of paper this morning, now contained a pair of pants, just as the owner had said. She silently put the clothes inside, careful not to disturb the items already there.

Gu Nanqiu returned and walked onto the balcony, lost in thought about something. Yue Yiyue locked the cabinet, put the key into her backpack, and looked at the lonely figure standing on the balcony. After hesitating for a moment, she walked towards the balcony.

"It'll be fine once we go back," she slowed her tone as much as possible, comforting Gu Nanqiu: "When we go back, we'll rent an apartment together and go to university. My cooking should be passable." "I'll make you soup then." "If there's anything you want to eat, you can tell me, and I can learn."

Attempting to talk about the future to make Gu Nanqiu feel better, Yue Yiyue clumsily offered everything she could do. Gu Nanqiu sighed softly.

"Can I hug you?" Looking at the scorching sun outside, she said melancholically: "It's so cold." "Even though it's summer."

Understanding Gu Nanqiu's unspoken meaning, Yue Yiyue immediately extended her arms and embraced her tightly. Although she was slightly shorter than Gu Nanqiu, it was less like she was hugging Gu Nanqiu and more like she was stuffing herself into Gu Nanqiu's embrace. Yue Yiyue buried her head in Gu Nanqiu's chest, sniffing the sweet, intoxicating scent of osmanthus. Gu Nanqiu listened to the reassuring sound of Yue Yiyue's heartbeat. Her hand landed on Yue Yiyue's back, cautiously gliding up along the hem of her clothes, bit by bit, stroking Yue Yiyue's straight, delicate back skin, causing the person in her arms to tremble slightly. She earnestly felt Yue Yiyue's warmth, finding a trace of solace belonging only to her in this bizarre place.

Yue Yiyue was a bit confused. Is this what a hug feels like? She then found a reason for Gu Nanqiu: Yes, this is the only way to touch her surely. In the not-so-spacious area, Gu Nanqiu's hot breath sprayed near her ear, causing a tingling sensation, and her face turned crimson.

They stood quietly on the balcony like that; at this moment, it was just the two of them. It wasn't until an abrupt knock sounded outside the door, and Fan Ning's voice rang out, that Gu Nanqiu reluctantly released Yue Yiyue: "Thank you. I feel much better. I really look forward to living with you…" She rubbed her slightly reddened face, trying to disperse the fatigue before facing the coming turmoil.

When Fan Ning entered, she saw Yue Yiyue's slightly fierce gaze, flinching and subconsciously taking a step back. "Thank you for taking me in," Fan Ning timidly handed over four pieces of bread: "The convenience store won't have any bread for a while. Take this just in case."

"Thank you," Yue Yiyue didn't understand why Fan Ning suddenly trembled. She thanked Fan Ning kindly and accepted the bread: "Do you have any more?"

Fan Ning nodded: "I have some left. I have four more."

"Shh." Yue Yiyue looked at Fan Ning, who was clearly afraid of her, and then at Gu Nanqiu, whose mood was calm next to them. Imitating the look of the orphanage director, she raised a finger, gesturing for Fan Ning to be silent. She cautiously looked around. No one was in sight, but the occupants of the adjacent dormitory seemed to have returned long ago. Pulling Fan Ning inside and closing the door, she warned: "Walls have ears. If someone is hungry and needs food later, guess who they'll try to rob first?"

Fan Ning, seeing Yue Yiyue's careful manner, suddenly became frightened again. She looked around anxiously: "But I've already said it out loud. What should I do… I didn't mean to."

Gu Nanqiu, amused by Yue Yiyue's playful scare, smiled and patted Yue Yiyue's shoulder, signaling her not to go too far. Seeing Gu Nanqiu look better than before, Yue Yiyue secretly relaxed.

"Just be careful in the future. But was it okay sleeping with Zhang Yang last night? Nothing felt strange?" Gu Nanqiu steered the conversation: "Come eat breakfast with us tomorrow morning. We'll walk together for a while."

Without explaining the specific reason, Fan Ning automatically assumed it was because of the bread hidden on her, which might attract trouble later. She nodded seriously: "Don't worry, I won't let anyone know about the bread I have either."
