Chapter 9 - 9

My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale

Faint rustling sounds of plastic arose, and the classroom door opened and closed.

Desks were knocked askew, and stationery was strewn haphazardly on the floor.

A girl wearing leather shoes looked down and picked up a notebook that a clumsy classmate had knocked over. She looked at the two words, "Day After," written on it, slowly, slowly staring at the bruised and wounded prey kneeling on the ground.

The boy looked at the pigeon in front of him with some terror.

The oversized school uniform obscured his figure, but being watched made him feel as if his throat was being gripped, with death following like a shadow.

The leaves outside the window shook violently, but the entire room was completely silent, as if separated by something.

The boy did not miss this detail, which also meant he had no chance to escape.

He lowered his hand and laughed self-deprecatingly: "So I've lost my value."

He just hadn't expected them to discard him so quickly.

In the end… he had to leave something behind… he couldn't just…

He couldn't…

The classroom door opened once more. This time, a pair of sneakers appeared.

The boy watched the person walking toward him step by step: "Hahahaha, so that's it! Hahahahahaha—"

He looked somewhat hysterically at the familiar person, his twisted face showing a hint of pleasure: "To die at your hands is my—"

The air became increasingly humid. Yue Yiyue lay on the bed, her eyes only closed, not completely asleep.

The scent of the person beside her became more pronounced due to the close proximity. The shower gel smelled nice but covered Gu Nanqiu's natural scent.

This made Yue Yiyue inexplicably anxious.

Yue Yiyue felt the bed was too small.

But she had tried; she couldn't join the two beds together.

The whooshing of the wind outside made the leaves produce a rather chilling sound.

It sounded as if someone was standing in an open space outside, slowly sweeping something with a broom.

Perhaps scattered fragments.

"It's going to rain soon," Gu Nanqiu said softly, listening to the movement outside: "Is your quilt a bit short? Do you want to move over? It might get very cold in the latter half of the night."

The reply was the sound of Yue Yiyue moving over. The bed creaked as it was shaken.

Now the two were closer. Yue Yiyue uncomfortably tucked Gu Nanqiu's quilt tightly around her, just as she used to tuck in her younger sisters to sleep.

The only difference was that the person beside her was a classmate. It was nothing, she told herself inwardly.

Thinking this, Yue Yiyue confirmed again that there was still space left on Gu Nanqiu's side, so the person wouldn't roll off: "Then I'll turn off the light."

Before long, as if to confirm Gu Nanqiu's words, the sound of raindrops striking the roof tiles came from outside, a gentle pitter-patter that grew from soft to strong.

A bolt of lightning flashed outside the room, and thunder quickly followed.

Gu Nanqiu shifted her body and accidentally rolled into Yue Yiyue's arms.

"Yiyue, I'm sorry." A faint, timid voice came from under the quilt.

"Is it because of the thunder?" Noticing that Gu Nanqiu only made this move after the loud thunder, Yue Yiyue, afraid she would suffocate, pulled Gu Nanqiu out from under the quilt.

The lightning illuminated the entire dorm room. In that split second, Yue Yiyue clearly saw Gu Nanqiu's tear-filled eyes, her shell-like teeth lightly biting her lip, seeming to be desperately enduring something.

Yue Yiyue touched her palm to make sure it was dry. She embraced the girl, covering her exposed ear with one hand, and lightly patting Gu Nanqiu's back with the other: "Don't worry, I'm here."

After having a series of chaotic dreams, Yue Yiyue's complexion was not good when she woke up.

She slightly turned her head to look at the energetic Gu Nanqiu. She rubbed her hand, which was numb and had not fully regained sensation, and sighed.

Gu Nanqiu had already squeezed toothpaste onto her own brush. She also squeezed toothpaste onto Yue Yiyue's toothbrush and handed it over.

For a moment, Yue Yiyue froze after taking the toothbrush. This scene was too familiar, just like her dream last night.

Except the person in front of her was a bit more mature than in the dream.

The place they lived was also not as dilapidated, but cozier.

And something was still sucking on her neck in the dream.

She estimated that after seeing Wang Yong's terrifying appearance, Yue Yiyue's brain had formed a protective mechanism.

Shaking off the chaotic dreams, Yue Yiyue got up and quickly washed up. She couldn't miss breakfast time.

If she had to eat dry bread again, the readers would scold her, right?

For letting the female lead live such a terrible life.

In the original novel, without Yue Yiyue's interference, Gu Nanqiu ate quite well, and the incident after school yesterday didn't even happen to her.

A warm towel landed on Yue Yiyue's face, making her a little more awake.

Hmm. According to the original plot, that person would come to harass Gu Nanqiu again today. This time, he would angrily snatch all of Gu Nanqiu's books. Fan Ning would try to help Gu Nanqiu once more.

And would be dragged to the restroom during class…

The restroom.

The events that followed seemed to be deliberately concealed by something. Yue Yiyue couldn't recall them.

She had gotten used to this over the past few days and wasn't surprised anymore.

She scrubbed the towel clean and hung it on the side, turning her head to look at Gu Nanqiu, who was already fully dressed and waiting by the door: "I'm coming."

After breakfast, they walked to the classroom. Several people were gathered at the door, which was tightly shut.

They didn't enter the academic building but stood at the entrance, holding books. Some were watching the people walking below, and some were reciting something nearby.

Seeing Gu Nanqiu approach, they blinked, rushed over to her with different foods, and presented their breakfasts like offerings.

"Thank you, everyone, but I've already eaten. Please take your time. Why aren't you going into the classroom?" Gu Nanqiu politely refused, asking curiously.

One girl immediately answered: "Nanqiu, I'm Gu Zhi. I'm so happy to talk to you! The air outside is better. I'm so sleepy this morning, and reading here will be more comfortable. Nanqiu, you should join us, too."

Gu Zhi seemed to only just notice Yue Yiyue standing nearby. She smiled inexplicably and gave the person a push: "Hey, you, go on inside first."

She glanced at Yue Yiyue with some disdain and said dismissively: "Go do the cleaning duties. Clean up properly, and don't be lazy, you lowlife."

"Don't talk about my friend like that," Gu Nanqiu pulled Yue Yiyue behind her, separating the rude person in front of her. The signature Gu Nanqiu smile was still on her face, but it didn't reach her eyes.

Could this be an accomplice of the Class Monitor?

What are they plotting now?

Is the next target Yue Yiyue?

No. I have to protect her, at least. After all, it's my fault that Yue Yiyue is going through this bad luck.

"How could that be, Nanqiu? We know you're kind and you'll play with these lowlifes regardless, but we are the most compatible with you." Gu Zhi suppressed the urge to record the beautiful, emotional expression Gu Nanqiu was giving her, and forced an ingratiating smile: "What happened yesterday was just an accident. We've all reflected on it. Don't worry, yesterday's incident won't happen again."

She was overly attentive and eager to please, but her gaze was filled with base desire.

Gu Nanqiu looked at Yue Yiyue behind her. She was not emotionally affected by the other person's words, but subconsciously shielded her waist, seemingly afraid that Gu Zhi would go mad and she would have to shield the person in her arms.

"I don't need your self-important distinctions." Yue Yiyue gave her confidence from behind. She rejected the other person's words, pulled Yue Yiyue's hand, and walked toward the classroom: "I checked the schedule yesterday. Yue Yiyue and I have cleaning duty together."

Seeing Gu Nanqiu's hand about to touch the classroom door, Gu Zhi walked over anxiously: "Wait… let Yue Yiyue open the door."

She blocked the door: "Nanqiu, I'm sorry. Did I make you angry? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but only Yue Yiyue can open this door."

Only Yue Yiyue can open it.

No, she can't mess this up. This opportunity was so hard to get.

This hard-won opportunity, it can't be ruined.

Gu Zhi looked at Gu Nanqiu pleadingly: "Nanqiu, you have to be fair. Don't just be nice to Yue Yiyue. Listen to us, too. We won't hurt you. We'll do everything we can to be good to you. You will be our master, our only master."

"As long as you behave, we'll do anything."

The more she spoke, the more suspicious Gu Nanqiu became. Is something waiting for Yue Yiyue inside?

Or is there a bucket of water waiting for her?

Will she be dragged to some strange place after entering?

Fairness? Who's fair? Who won't hurt her?

Hearing Gu Zhi's words, Gu Nanqiu was truly on the verge of laughter from anger. She shielded Yue Yiyue, who was observing the situation, behind her and patted Yue Yiyue's hand soothingly.

"The fairness I want is for everyone to treat me as an ordinary student equally and let me and my friend study here quietly."

"Not for all of you to stand by and even encourage it when I'm being threatened by a random stranger to be his girlfriend, all under the guise of doing what's best for me and the excuse of being the 'most compatible,' hurting me."

Recalling these inexplicable events, even the usually good-tempered Gu Nanqiu couldn't control her anger toward the terrible things she had encountered over the past two days.

Her beautiful eyes welled up with tears. She couldn't imagine what would have happened yesterday without Yue Yiyue.

Why were they all so selfish, so eager to treat her like an object they could handle as they pleased?

To be given to whoever they decided?

Was it just because this place was different from the outside world?

Wang Yong's death, and the way Yue Yiyue looked so scared, meant she couldn't let down her guard. She had to stay calm and find a way out.

But she was only eighteen years old! Why did it have to be her?

Why did they have to come to a place like this?

Had she committed some sin?

The person in front of her, who was so falsely expressing admiration, was just like the lunatic she had encountered before.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Large drops of tears fell uncontrollably from her beautiful, porcelain-white face, finally hitting the ground and splashing.

She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and spoke to the girl in front of her in a trembling voice, as if using the last of her strength: "I don't need it. You truly make me so, so sad. I hope you never appear in front of me again. You, including that Class Monitor, are no different from him. You both make me feel fear, a sickening feeling of being gazed at as an object. I hate you for breaking my life, bringing me to such a bizarre place, and even…"

Gu Nanqiu was sobbing uncontrollably by this point.

This was supposed to be her most relaxing summer vacation.

Why?

By what right?

She just wanted to have fun with Yue Yiyue, meet her, and discuss their plans for university.

Why had she ended up here, not knowing when she could leave?

Gu Zhi looked at Gu Nanqiu in disbelief.

Her words were like a sharp dagger plunging into Gu Zhi's chest.

"No… No…" Gu Zhi looked at the person in front of her with some distortion: "Nanqiu, did… did you misunderstand something?"

"No, that can't be true. Don't say that."

"Don't be like this."

Gu Zhi spoke incoherently, eagerly stepping forward, wanting to grab Gu Nanqiu's hand and beg for her forgiveness, but she immediately withdrew her hand when she saw the person standing behind Gu Nanqiu.

The quiet, fragmented chattering that had been the background noise instantly vanished. The entire corridor fell into a strange silence.

Gu Zhi lowered her hand, looking at the person in front of her, completely distraught.

She had ruined it…

She had ruined everything…

The opportunity she had fought so hard to obtain…

She made Nanqiu cry…

She… truly deserved to die…

"I understand… I will obey your words. Nanqiu, please don't cry, okay?"
