Chapter 14 - Connect

Unlike most types of magic, curse magic is a lot more exclusive than other types. For each curse mage, there are around a hundred support mages, and for every support mage, there are around a thousand normal mages.

Isaac knew of these odds long before coming to this world, so the fact that he was even able to use support magic was a wonder to him, but that was where his luck ran out. There had never been someone who was able to use both curses and support magic, as both contradicted each other.

Isaac and Tiy walked deeper into the cave, where the circle magic was. The spell had shrunk in size, at first it was the same size as Isaac, but it has now condensed to the size of the palm of someone's hand.

Tiy looked at the spell and spoke.

"This is how you will curse me, by using a spell that injects your mana to overtake the circle. I will then trigger the spell and be cursed."

Isaac was sceptical of most things that came out of Tiy's mouth, but reversing a circle spell was not something he was expecting. Circle spells are more commonly known as area spells, and they effect an area with their target effect. An example would be a circle that uses *understand* to the area of a town.

Isaac spoke up.

"I have never heard of someone taking control of someone else's magic before."

Tiy took a step back and responded.

"It's not an uncommon thing. Think about when a mage is about to die, who will do the maintenance on the spell, even if circle magic can last eons without upkeep, some parts of it will fail at points, like an overhunted forest."

Isaac understood most of that, but failed to understand the last part and chalked it up to a difference in traditions, like how some things were common on Earth but never happened on Grassciair, and vice versa.

Isaac looked over the spell, but was unable to understand it, and spoke.

"What language is this spell written in, and how will I be able to take control of it?"

Tiy took out a piece of paper that clearly was from one of Isaac's textbooks, and handed it to him.

"The spell is on there, it might take you a while, so I'll leave you to your own devices. As for the language, it's written in a language focused on curses, kind of like your one for support magic."

Isaac took the paper as Tiy left, and looked at the circle one last time. It was definitely written in a language that looked completely foreign to him, even with the *understand* spell on, which clearly meant that there were no words that he knew that could closely relate to it.

Isaac looked at the paper that had the spell on it. It was a crude drawing of circle magic that seemed to target weak points in the spell that would let Isaac flow in his own mana, and wash out all of Tiy's mana.

Realistically, the circle spell to take over someone else's circle would only work if you had a deep understanding of the spell and had enough time to draw a second circle in order to take it over.

Isaac had begun drawing a crude circle on the floor of the cave at this point. He wanted this place to be a kind of safe haven for himself since his old place was destroyed by a crescent bear, so he wanted the circle to be able to be changed at a moment's notice. The circle he drew was only a few feet wide, which was more than enough, considering the size of the spell.

Isaac had started to learn a new habit when learning new spells, and that was that he would repeat the spells many times over, as well as try to understand why they took their forms.

For this spell, Isaac knew why it was also a circle magic spell, because they are the only spell that could contain an almost limitless amount of mana, and was the most durable due to their physical form. As for repeating the spell, that took the form of speaking out the symbols that were on the circle.

All circle spells are made up of many letter like symbols that form the inner and outer circle. Each symbol forms a part of a big word or sentence, as for this spell, it forms the sentence 'Connect through the gaps, and take hold.'

By the time Isaac was done drawing the circle, the sun had already set, and normally it would be his turn to watch, but luckily, Tiy was willing to take watch, due to Isaac's lack of sleep for the past two nights.

Faint light shines through the cloud in the distance, but the clouds overhead still pour with an unstoppable force. Isaac woke up and ate some of the berries, which were some of the only food he had for days on end.

Isaac immediately returned to working on the circle and began infusing it with his mana. Due to the effects of the circle that Tiy had made, all mana around the two circles was non existent, and so Isaac had to manually flow his own mana into the circle.

Each time would take at least 30 minutes, which would be followed by Isaac eating enough berries in order to have his mana back, and then he would repeat the cycle day in and day out.

Days form into weeks, and around one month has passed since Isaac first arrived in this world. Both Isaac and Tiy had grown close, but both still held each other at an arm's length. Isaac's once pristine uniform has now become as rigid as Tiy's clothes.

Both Isaac and Tiy walk back into the cave. The once devilish purple circle has changed to a dark blue that is reminiscent of the sea, as the final drops of mana flow into the circle, Tiy gives a look to Isaac before she walked into the circle.

A familiar voice is heard in Isaac's head.

"You have cursed wanderer Tiy."

Tiy looked at Isaac and threw a light punch at him, which seemed to reflect back at her. She then spoke

"See, was that so hard? Now let's curse you."

Tiy starts chanting, which sounds a lot like screaming, which is reminiscent of when they first met and when she first cursed him.

The same voice from before spoke again in Isaac's head.

"New trait acquired Minor Curse."

Isaac then brings out his system to look at it to check if it is really as Tiy said.
