Chapter 16 - lethargic

An arrow rippled through the air. At first, the arrow was majorly off course from hitting Isaac, but just as quickly as it had been shot, a gust of wind blew and shifted it to hit Isaac dead centre.

Isaac took a few steps back before channelling a chain of spells.

"*Gust*, *Earth wall", *Up draft*"

The first spell slowed down the arrow to a more reasonable pace by blocking the arrow from the front like a fan that was desperately trying to stop it, but was not able to stop it completely, as the arrow was still going at least 20 miles an hour.

The second spell made a small human sized wall, that was two meters tall, and 3 meters wide, shoot up from the ground. The arrow shot through the wall, and was bent out of shape, and almost snapped, but was barely holding together.

The third spell made a warm air pour out of the ground behind the wall, and this fully knocked the arrow off course, as the arrow crashed into the wall, stopping its force.

Isaac quickly took some berries out and started eating them to regain the lost mana during the fight. From over the wall, the man nocked another arrow and began pulling his bow back with incredible strength.

Isaac started running away from the wall as fast as he could, so that he could have more time to react to any attacks from the man.

'Why on earth is this guy trying to kill me over Tiy? That doesn't matter right now, what does matter is that I can stop his arrows for now with a spell, but I still don't know what spells would be best against a bow.'

Interrupting Isaac's train of thought, another arrow pierced through the wall. The wall seemed to slow it down and bend it again, but it was still fast beyond human limits. Luckily, it was off course again, but just like before, a gust of wind blew and tried to force it on a path through Isaac.

Isaac quickly casted *Up draft* again, right as the gust of wind hit the arrow. The force of both the gust and updraft caused the arrow to remain on its original path, which hit a tree that was nowhere near Isaac.

Isaac took a few more berries and started eating. Unlike in the cave, Isaac didn't have a lot of berries as Tiy took most of them from the glade, but Isaac did notice something through his mana sense that would be very helpful.

Every time an arrow was off course, a small magical gust of wind blew on its side to push it on the right path. Isaac hadn't heard any chanting from the man, and he also doubted that the man could use chantless magic that was as strong as channel.

So Isaac could only believe it to be the trait that Tiy had told him about. According to Tiy, the people from the tribe had a connection to wind magic, which, thinking back at it, Isaac started to wonder why she worded it like that, because normally someone would say that they have the ability to cast wind magic, not that they have a strong connection to it.

The difference between those words were astronomical, because one meant that they were able to use wind magic while the other meant that they could control the mana in its pure form.

Controlling magic in its pure form means that it would only be in the form of gusts of wind or a breeze, while casting magic meant that it could change forms to your understanding, while being connected meant that it was just formless mana.

While deep in thought, another arrow was shot, which broke Isaac's concentration and brought him back to the situation, as another arrow approached him.

Isaac quickly casted *gust* and *Up Draft*, but the arrow stayed on its path towards Isaac. Right as the arrow was about to go through Isaac's gut, he casted *Up draft* again, causing it to shoot sharply up and cut along Isaac's cheek.

He wiped the blood that rushed to his cheek and then stepped out from behind the earth wall. The man on the other side had drawn his bow and was getting ready to shoot, his quiver still had a couple dozen arrows left.

Isaac, meanwhile, started walking closer to the man. His main plan was to use the circle that Tiy had made for him on the man, but since circle magic was an area of effect, he would need to use the circle and get away before it makes him lethargic.

Isaac spoke out loud.

"Hey, bow guy. You want Tiy, don't you? Why don't you take her stuff."

Isaac then threw his school bag at the man, which the man shot it with his bow, making the bag stick to a tree. Isaac started running towards the man while he was drawing his bow.

He then opened the bag that Tiy had given him, which now had the paper with a circle on it, as he switched which one it was in when he was behind the wall.

By the time the man reacted to what Isaac was doing, he was already a few meters away from him. Isaac pulled out the piece of paper and unfolded it. Deep within the paper, purple mana poured out of it, covering the forest in a purple haze that made both Isaac and lethargic.

A voice sounded deep inside Isaac's head.

"New trait acquired minor cur-)"

Isaac cut off the voice as he got right up to the man and kicked him in the genitals. When Isaac first met Tiy and this man, he thought they were humanoid monsters, but after spending a month with Tiy, he gathered that both he and Tiy shared organs, including genitals.

Isaac didn't want to put this man through pain, but considering his constant barrage of arrows, Isaac wasn't going to let himself die. The man kneeled over, clutching his groin, then a wave of sluggishness hit both of them.

Isaac slowly walked over to the paper, picked it up, and placed it in his pocket. He then looked over at the man who was using all his strength to stand up through the sluggishness and pain.

Isaac casted an *earth wall* right behind the man, and then casted a new spell *crumble* which made the wall fall apart on the man. Isaac then walked over to his backpack hanging off a tree, took a few yellow star plants, and began removing the curse from the circle.

Half an hour had passed by the time Isaac removed the curse. He then walked over to the man, and took his bow, arrows, and knife, and placed them in his bag, which he took off the tree. Isaac looked down at the man who was going to kill him a little bit ago.

The man's face was full of pity for himself, but still contained a lust for Tiy that was leaking out in his mana. Isaac still wasn't ready to kill a person, an animal he could, but a person who had a family was too tough for him to do.

But if the man was to die to an animal, then he could allow it, so Isaac began dragging the man back to the lake. At points, the man tried to break free, but Isaac always returned those attempts with another kick to the groin.

By the time they made it to the lake, the sun had already set, but that didn't stop Isaac, as he placed the man in the water of the lake, and soon after, a school of fish flocked to the man and began eating him alive.

Isaac, hearing the man's cries for help, turned around and walked away with his ears covered.
