Chapter 7 - Suspicion

Chapter 7:

Ava moved quietly through the small house, keeping the pencil hidden in her pocket. 🖊️

Even now, she could feel the weight of it.

The weight of what she could do… and what she couldn't tell anyone.

Her mother hummed softly while cooking. Her father read a worn book, trying to ignore the creaking of the floorboards. Her grandparents were resting. Her brother was playing quietly, humming to himself.

Ava's chest tightened.

They're happy. But… for how long?

Over the past few days, small things had happened.

The food on the table seemed fresher than before.

Her grandmother's medicine had appeared right when she needed it.

A few coins had shown up where they had none yesterday.

Her mother noticed first.

"Strange… I thought we had no bread," she muttered one morning.

Her father frowned. "Maybe someone left it?"

Her little brother shrugged. "I don't know. It's… magic?" he joked, but there was a nervous edge to his voice.

Ava forced a smile.

"Yes… maybe."

That night, Ava lay in bed staring at the pencil on her desk. 🖊️

They're starting to notice. They're going to ask questions. They'll want answers. And I can't tell them.

She clenched the pencil tightly.

I have to be careful.

One wrong move… and everything could disappear.

The next morning, her mother approached her quietly.

"Ava… how is it that we have enough for breakfast every day?"

Ava's heart jumped. She looked away.

"I… I just… I try to find bargains," she said, keeping her voice calm.

Her mother nodded slowly, but her eyes were sharp.

She's suspicious.

By midday, Ava's mind was restless.

Every small miracle she tried to plan now came with a knot in her stomach.

What if they notice too much?

What if I can't control it?

Her brother tugged at her sleeve.

"Can we go outside, Ava?"

She nodded, hiding her worry.

Outside, the city was busy. People shouted, cars honked, and the smells of street food mixed with dust.

Ava walked slowly, feeling the pencil in her pocket. 🖊️

This power… it's amazing. But it's also a trap.

And for the first time, Ava wondered if she could truly handle it.
