Chapter 11:
The morning sun barely reached the tiny house. 🌆
Ava moved quietly, avoiding her mother's sharp eyes. Her father sat at the table, glancing at the bills she had tried to pay magically.
A knock came at the door.
A neighbor stood there, holding a small package.
"Sorry to bother you," the neighbor said, frowning slightly. "But I found this on your doorstep… addressed to you. Did someone deliver it?"
Ava's heart raced. 🖊️
No… no one should have seen that.
She took the package with trembling hands.
"It must be a mistake," she said quickly.
Inside, she found a set of supplies her family desperately needed: medicine for her grandmother, tools for her father, even a loaf of bread.
Her chest tightened.
The pencil… this had to be it.
Her little brother peeked over her shoulder.
"Wow… how did this get here?" he whispered.
Ava forced a smile.
"Magic… maybe?" she said, laughing nervously.
Later that day, Ethan stopped by unexpectedly.
"Hey, I saw… some things," he said, hesitating. "Like your grandmother got medicine right when she needed it, and… the neighbor's package?"
Ava froze. 🖊️
"I… I don't know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan looked at her with concern. "Are you hiding something from me?"
For a moment, Ava's mind raced.
If he finds out… everything will vanish.
"I… I just… didn't want to worry anyone," she said finally.
Ethan didn't push further, but his eyes lingered on her.
He's suspicious now…
That night, Ava sat alone, the pencil in her hands.
It's too powerful… and too fragile.
One mistake could destroy everything I've worked for.
She placed it carefully on the desk, staring at it with both fear and awe. 🖊️
Outside, the city moved on, unaware of the secret growing heavier inside that small house.
And Ava knew… the balance she had maintained was slipping.
