Chapter 5 - Testing the strange

Chapter 5:

That night, Ava couldn't sleep.

The small room felt colder than usual. Her brother's soft breathing filled the silence. Her parents were quiet, lost in their own fatigue.

She stared at the pencil on her desk. 🖊️

It felt heavier than usual—not in weight, but in… possibility.

She shook her head. "It's just a pencil," she whispered. "I can't… I won't let my mind play tricks."

But curiosity gnawed at her.

After a few moments, she picked up the pencil and a blank sheet of paper.

Her hand hovered above it.

"I… I'll just write something small," she told herself. "Nothing big. Just… a test."

She wrote carefully:

"I find a coin in my pocket."

She put the pencil down.

Her heart beat fast.

A coin?

She reached into her pocket.

And there it was—a silver coin, real. 💡

Her eyes widened.

She looked around, half expecting someone to laugh, or for it to disappear.

But it didn't.

It was real.

Ava's chest tightened. She swallowed hard.

"This… this can't be real," she whispered.

She picked up the pencil again. Another small test:

"I hear music from the street."

A soft melody drifted in immediately, coming from the alley outside. 🌆

Ava sank into her chair.

Her hands trembled.

Her mind raced.

The pencil… it wasn't normal.

For the rest of the night, she tested it in tiny ways:

A flower on her desk. A gentle breeze through the window.

Each time, the pencil responded.

With every small miracle, awe and fear settled over her.

By dawn, Ava sat silently, staring at the pencil. 🖊️

It wasn't just a tool.

It wasn't coincidence.

It was… something more. Something powerful. Something that could change everything.

But deep down, a single thought lingered, quiet and heavy:

I can't tell anyone.

She didn't know why. But she knew. Some secrets were too dangerous to share.
