Chapter 24 - Chapter-23 : The First Coordinated Strike

The school was unusually quiet that evening. The faint hum of the cube echoed through the hallways as we moved into position. Every creak, every whisper of wind felt like the eyes of Noorwood High were upon us.

Sarah held the cube, its glow pulsating rhythmically. "Positions. Everyone knows their role. No mistakes."

Lara twirled her chair dramatically. "Step one: epic style! Step two: epic chaos! Step three: snacks optional but highly recommended! Step four: comedy domination!"

Felix groaned. "I think I've aged ten years just from hearing that."

Kai raised an eyebrow, ignoring him. "Positions. Chloe and Liam, mark the zones with the symbols. Emily and Jordan, flank the sides. Mira, stay ready to freeze any shadows that escape the funnel. Lara… distract strategically."

Lara saluted with her chair. "Yes! Step five: maximum distraction. Step six: comedy victory!"

The shadows appeared almost instantly, slithering along the walls. The faceless creature emerged last, towering and twisting, eyes—if they could be called that—focused on Mira.

"Now!" Kai shouted.

Mira's hands glowed brilliantly, freezing the first wave mid-lunge. Lara ran forward, yelling jokes at the shadows. "Why don't monsters eat comedians? Because they taste funny!"

Felix swung his broomstick, jabbing shadows toward the chalk symbols Chloe and Liam had prepared. The cube pulsed, drawing them into the trap.

The faceless creature roared, its limbs bending in impossible angles, but Mira anticipated its movements, guiding it toward a marked zone.

Sarah held the cube aloft. A wave of energy radiated outward, freezing shadows completely. Even the faceless creature staggered, confused by the combined strategy.

Emily and Jordan coordinated distractions perfectly, redirecting smaller shadows while the twins ensured nothing escaped the trap.

I moved alongside them, heart racing. "This… this is actually working!"

Lara cartwheeled across the hall, chair in hand. "Step seven: comedic chaos! Step eight: dramatic flair! Step nine: snacks… maybe after victory!"

Felix groaned, swinging wildly. "Step ten: I survive somehow!"

The shadows writhed in the frozen zones, unable to move. The faceless creature let out a terrifying screech, bending violently but trapped within the pattern of symbols.

Sarah exhaled, her hands steady. "First strike… complete. Temporary, but effective."

Mira's glow dimmed slightly, exhaustion showing. "It learned quickly. The creature knows we are planning. The next encounter will be faster, smarter, deadlier."

Kai nodded, surveying the hall. "We've bought ourselves time. But it's not over. Not by far."

Lara collapsed dramatically, chair held high. "Step eleven: victory dance! Step twelve: snacks!"

Felix groaned. "Step thirteen: consider never volunteering again."

I looked around at our exhausted, battered, but alive group. Somehow… we'd done it. Somehow, the first coordinated strike had worked.

But Noorwood High was alive, aware, and angry.

And the next wave would test us in ways we weren't ready for…
