The group huddled in the science lab, the faint hum of the cube filling the room. Dust particles floated in the dim light, illuminated by Mira's glowing hands.
"We need contingency plans," Sarah said firmly, pacing. "The faceless creature is learning. Every trap we set now might be anticipated. We can't rely on a single strategy anymore."
Lara immediately spun her chair, throwing her arms wide. "Step one: chaos planning! Step two: comedy contingencies! Step three: optional snacks in case of catastrophic failure!"
Felix groaned. "Step four: why am I still alive in this horror sitcom?"
Kai spread out a complex diagram on the floor. "We'll need multiple layers of defense. Trap zones, shadow manipulation, diversion tactics… everything must be synchronized. Every movement counted, every distraction timed."
Mira nodded, glowing faintly. "I can probe the faceless creature's tendencies, but if I push too far, it can sense me and manipulate the shadows against us. We need fail-safes."
Emily frowned. "So… layers upon layers of traps and tricks?"
Chloe and Liam added in unison, "Exactly. And the more unpredictable we are, the better chance we have of confusing it. But we also need to be careful—one wrong move and it could overwhelm us instantly."
Lara twirled dramatically. "Step four: improvisational comedy drills! Step five: distraction choreography! Step six: victory snacks!"
Felix muttered, "Step seven: eternal trauma."
Sarah held the cube, energy pulsing in sync with Mira's glow. "We'll set three trap zones for the next wave. Mira, you'll control the first zone. Lara, coordinated distractions. Felix and I will manage the cube's energy flow. Twins, ensure the shadows follow the intended path. Emily and Jordan, handle any deviations."
Lara immediately started running drills, yelling ridiculous jokes at empty corners of the lab. "Why did the ghost go to therapy? Because it had spirited issues! Ha!"
Felix groaned, swinging a broomstick. "I'm contributing… barely."
Mira's glow intensified as she projected shadow patterns for the team to study. "If we anticipate the creature's moves, we can direct it into multiple zones simultaneously. Timing is everything. Hesitate… and we're done."
Kai adjusted the diagrams. "We also need escape routes and fallback positions. If one trap fails, everyone must know the next position instantly. No delays. No hesitation."
Sarah nodded. "This is preparation for the most dangerous encounter yet. The faceless creature is learning, but we'll stay one step ahead. If we fail… we learn, adjust, and try again."
I swallowed, realizing how high the stakes had become. Noorwood High was no longer just haunted—it was a calculating opponent.
Lara collapsed theatrically on a chair. "Step eight: chaos mastery! Step nine: snacks… maybe before victory this time!"
Felix muttered, "Step ten: sanity… optional."
Mira's glow dimmed slightly. "We're ready… as ready as we'll ever be. But the next strike will test everything—our skills, our courage, and yes… even our humor."
I glanced at everyone, hearts pounding, knowing the real fight was coming.
And this time, the school wouldn't make it easy.
