Chapter 20 - Chapter-19 : The Trap Set In Motion

The hallways of Noorwood High were silent, the kind of silence that made every creak, every whisper of the wind, feel like the footsteps of a thousand monsters.

Sarah held the cube tightly, its faint glow illuminating the path ahead. "Everyone knows their role," she whispered. "No mistakes."

Lara twirled her chair like a baton. "No mistakes… except maybe mine, but those are intentional comedy mistakes."

Felix groaned. "I hate this already. Why did I agree to anything?"

Kai scanned the hallways one last time. "Positions. Now. Timing is everything. Mira, on my mark."

Mira's hands glowed faintly, pulsing in rhythm with the cube. "Ready. Just… don't hesitate."

Chloe and Liam positioned themselves near the trigger points, chalk symbols glinting faintly in the dim light. Emily and Jordan flanked the sides, ready to distract any shadows that veered off course.

I swallowed hard. "Here goes nothing."

A low whisper echoed through the corridor. Shadows began to twist along the walls, stretching unnaturally, converging on our path.

"Now!" Kai shouted.

Mira's glow flared, freezing the first wave of shadows mid-lunge. Lara swung her chair like a seasoned warrior, shouting absurd jokes. "Why did the ghost go to school? Because it wanted spirit-ed grades!"

Even I had to smirk, despite my fear. Somehow… it worked. The shadows hesitated.

Felix swung his broomstick wildly, pushing them toward the chalk symbols. "Go… go… don't touch me!"

Sarah raised the cube, pulsing its energy. A wave radiated outward, drawing the shadows toward the marked zones. The faceless creature appeared at the end of the hall, towering, limbs twisting like black smoke.

"Stay calm!" Mira shouted, hands glowing brighter than ever. "Lara, distractions! Felix, cover the right flank! Everyone, move in sync!"

Lara lunged forward. "Why don't shadows tell secrets? Because they can't handle the light! Boom! Gotcha!"

The shadows recoiled, twisting toward the cube. The faceless creature shrieked, its impossible limbs bending violently.

Emily and Jordan guided the smaller shadows into the trap. Chloe and Liam ensured the larger ones followed the correct path.

The cube pulsed, a wave of energy freezing the shadows in place. The faceless creature roared, pounding against the walls, unable to break free.

I couldn't believe it. Our first coordinated trap—success.

Lara collapsed dramatically, chair in hand. "Victory! Step one: survive. Step two: trap monsters. Step three: snacks!"

Felix groaned. "Step four: maybe retire from life again."

Sarah exhaled sharply. "This only buys us time. The faceless one is still out there, and it's learning."

Mira's glow dimmed slightly, exhaustion evident. "But we can do this… if we continue to trust each other. If we remain coordinated."

Kai adjusted his stance, eyes scanning for any movement. "Next time, we strike even harder. No hesitation. No mistakes."

I swallowed, adrenaline coursing through me. Somehow, we had done it. Somehow, we had won a little.

But I knew… Noorwood High wasn't finished with us yet.
