Chapter 16 - Discharge

Cain woke up early at 5 a.m. and got ready to head to the hospital to pick up Tara. Being a prominent figure in the business world, he had connections—but even then, the most he could do without breaking hospital rules was arrive at 6 a.m., which was good enough for him.

At exactly 6 a.m., he was already at the hospital entrance. Without wasting time, he headed straight to Tara's wardroom. When he entered, she was still asleep.

He walked quietly to her bedside and sat down, watching her peaceful expression.

"You look less predatory when you're like this," Cain whispered, a faint smile forming on his lips.

After a few minutes, Tara stirred and slowly opened her eyes—only to find Cain staring at her. She quickly looked away.

"Wow… you're early today," she said, lifting her head with a gentle smile.

"Did you want me to come late?" Cain asked, amused.

"Mmm… let me think," Tara replied, pretending to consider it.

Suddenly, she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"No. Just on time," she said playfully, hugging him fully. "Good morning, Cain."

"Good morning, Tara," Cain replied, slightly stunned by her sudden affection.

"Ready for the discharge process?" he asked, just as he was about to return the embrace.

"Absolutely," Tara said, slipping out of his arms before he could hold her back. "I'll go change, and you—my man—go get those papers done."

She winked playfully before disappearing to find a nurse.

Cain chuckled to himself."If I hadn't seen it myself, I'd never believe that cold person could smile and wink so gently," he murmured before heading off to complete the paperwork.

Everything was prepared smoothly, and by 9 a.m., they were already at the airport, heading back to City A.

Tara looked around, confused.

"Cain… what are we doing at the airport?"

Cain paused and looked at her calmly. "We're going back home—to City A."

"So… this isn't where we live?" she asked again.

"No. We only came here for business. Since you're better now, we should go back… in case anything else happens," he added quietly.

Tara felt like he was holding something back, but she chose not to press him. Instead, she smiled and gently pulled his hand, guiding him to the waiting seats.

Cain followed without resistance, though his eyes scanned the area cautiously, making sure no one recognized them.

Tara noticed.

"Is everything okay?" she asked.

"Mmh," Cain hummed, turning his full attention back to her.

Just as they settled into their quiet moment, a soft voice interrupted them.

"Hello, sir… do you mind if I sit here?" an innocent-looking woman asked.

Cain glanced at her indifferently. "Whatever."

He immediately returned his focus to Tara.

The woman smiled and sat beside him.

Moments later—

"Aah! Sir, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed as water spilled onto Cain's trousers. "Let me help clean it—"

She reached toward him, but before she could touch him, Tara grabbed her wrist.

"Miss… don't you think you're going too far?" Tara said calmly.

The woman pulled her hand away and looked at Cain with teary eyes.

"Sir, I don't know what she's implying. I was only trying to fix my mistake," she said, her voice trembling as people began to notice.

Cain's irritation was clear. Tara saw it and sighed softly.

"Miss, my man won't hold it against you," Tara said coolly. "And as for cleaning—I'll handle it. There's no need to trouble yourself."

She took a tissue and gently wiped Cain's trousers.

"Are you okay?" she asked him softly.

"Mmh," Cain replied, watching her closely.

"But I wasn't talking to you—" the woman started again.

Tara ignored her completely. Instead, she stood up and pulled Cain with her.

"Cain, get up."

He obeyed without question.

Tara switched seats with him, sitting where he had been, while Cain moved closer to the wall. Once seated, she intertwined her fingers with his.

"Where's your phone?" she asked.

Cain handed it to her immediately.

Tara opened TikTok and started watching videos, leaning slightly into him—completely dismissing the woman.

For the next fifteen minutes, the woman tried repeatedly to get Cain's attention, but neither of them responded.

Finally, boarding was announced.

Cain and Tara, flying first class, stood up and headed toward the plane.

"Finally… we got rid of that nuisance," Tara muttered in exasperation.

Cain chuckled softly.

"What are you laughing at?" Tara asked suspiciously as she took her seat beside him.

"I'm laughing at how cutely possessive my girlfriend is," Cain said, his gaze soft.

"Oh? So you think it's funny?" Tara pouted.

"Absolutely not," Cain replied.

"Then what?" she pressed, narrowing her eyes.

Cain laughed again. "You're just too adorable when you're mad—and overprotective."

"We'll see about that when I catch you cheating," she muttered, looking away.

Cain only smiled.

He leaned over, fastened her seatbelt, then secured his own before taking her hand again.

Side by side, they waited quietly as the plane prepared for takeoff.
