Tara was stunned when she saw the familiar face standing at the door. She looked at the woman in confusion while the latter raised an eyebrow with equal parts interest and surprise.
"You?" the woman said.
"Yes… me," Tara replied, still confused.
"What are you doing here?" the woman asked, a sharp edge evident in her tone.
"Shouldn't I be the one asking that?" Tara replied nonchalantly.
"I'm here to see Cain. Where is he?" the woman asked confidently.
"And who might you be to him?"
"Oh, me? I'm Anika, the neighbor next door. And I'm guessing you must be his maid," she said before casually pushing her way into the house.
Tara was stunned by her attitude. She was already irritated enough, but the moment she recognized Anika as the same woman she had seen with Cain outside the gate the previous night, her expression darkened slightly.
"Were you with Cain outside the gate last night?" Tara asked calmly.
