Chapter 2 - 2

Chapter 2: First Blood

Morning sun through the window painted gold stripes on the floor. I'd slept better than in years—no dreams, no restlessness, just deep sleep. Woke up feeling perfect. Rested. Ready.

**Daily Adaptation Check.**

**Passive gains:**

- **Magic Resistance:** +0.5%

- **Physical Durability:** +0.3%

- **Sensory Acuity:** +0.2%

**Total Adaptation: 1.2%**

System worked while I slept. No limits meant constant growth, even from just existing here.

Dressed in clothes from the room's wardrobe—black pants, white shirt, dark jacket that fit surprisingly well. Looked in the mirror. Same face, same dark hair, but eyes sharper. More aware. Shoulders set with confidence that wasn't there before.

"Not bad, Koga," I told my reflection, Gojo smirk. "Not bad."

Downstairs, guild hall already active. Few early risers at the bar eating breakfast. Last night's mess mostly cleaned up, though I noticed a new crack in one wall that definitely wasn't there before.

Makarov at his usual spot, sipping from a mug that smelled like strong coffee. Nodded as I approached.

"Morning, kid. Sleep well?"

"Like the dead. Or like someone who can't die."

He chuckled. "Confident little shit. I like it." Pushed a plate toward me—eggs, bacon, toast. "Eat. Need energy for your first mission."

"Mission?"

"Of course. Think joining Fairy Tail is free room and board? We work." Gestured to a wall covered in papers. "Job board. Pick something interesting. Or challenging. Or both."

Finished breakfast quickly—food surprisingly good—walked to the board. Dozens of requests, from simple deliveries to monster exterminations. Scanned them, looking for something to test abilities.

One caught my eye:

**URGENT: Bandit Problem**

**Location: Oakwood Village (2 hours north)**

**Details: 15-20 bandits terrorizing village. Earth mage with them—creates barriers, traps.**

**Reward: 50,000 Jewels**

**Difficulty: B-Class**

B-Class. Moderately dangerous. Perfect first test.

Pulled the paper, brought it back to Makarov. "This one."

He looked at it, then at me. "Bandits with an earth mage. Sure? Not exactly gentle introduction."

I smiled. "Where's the fun in gentle?"

He sighed, but amusement in his eyes. "Fine. Get yourself killed, I'm not cleaning up the mess. Take this." Handed me a small pouch. "Advance for expenses. Report back when done. Or don't. Your choice."

Took the pouch—jingled with coins—headed for the door. "Try not to destroy the guild while I'm gone."

"Cheeky bastard," he muttered, but smiling.

Walk to Oakwood Village took me through countryside like a painting. Rolling hills, fields of crops, occasional farmhouse with smoke curling from chimney. Air clean, sky blue, felt... free. More free than ever in old life.

**Environmental Adaptation: Increased.**

**Passive magic absorption: 0.1% per hour.**

**New Ability: Mana Sense.**

Could feel the magic now, not just vague presence but distinct flows in air. Some places had more, some less. Ley lines maybe. Or just areas where magic gathered.

Two hours walking, crested a hill, saw Oakwood Village below. Or what was left. Several houses burned, blackened frames like skeletons against sky. Villagers moved with hunched shoulders, fearful glances, always looking toward forest at edge of town.

Made my way down, drawing curious looks. Clothes marked me as not from around here, confident walk probably didn't match their mood.

Older man with worried face approached. "You... from Fairy Tail?"

"I am. Koga. Here about bandit problem."

Relief washed over his features. "Thank gods. Came again last night. Took last food stores. Hurt anyone who tried to stop them." Pointed to forest. "Camp in there. But careful—their mage, he... does things with earth. Makes it swallow people."

"Don't worry," I said, voice calm. "I'll handle it."

Walked toward forest, villagers watching from distance. Entered trees, system updated:

**Quest Updated: Establish Yourself.**

**Sub-Objective: Clear bandit camp.**

**Bonus: Defeat earth mage without damage.**

**Reward: Adaptation to Earth Magic.**

Interesting. Bonus objective. Liked games.

Bandit camp not hard to find. Not trying to hide. Could hear them before seeing—raucous laughter, clink of bottles, sound of someone being hit.

Stepped into clearing.

Camp exactly what you'd expect—makeshift tents, fire pit, stolen goods piled haphazardly. About fifteen men, rough-looking, armed with swords and clubs. One stood out—thinner man in robes, staff topped with glowing green crystal.

They noticed me immediately.

"Well, well," one bandit said, big man with scar across face. Stood up, hefted heavy axe. "Look what wandered in. Lost, little boy?"

Didn't answer. Just looked at them, one by one, taking time. Assessing. System already analyzing:

**Targets: 16 human males.**

**Weapons: Basic melee (swords, axes, clubs).**

**Magic: Earth affinity, low-tier.**

**Threat: Negligible.**

"Hey, talking to you!" Scar-face yelled, stepping forward. "Deaf or something?"

"Not deaf," I said, voice calm. "Just deciding how much to hurt you."

Got a reaction. Laughter, mostly. Derisive, confident.

"Hear that, boys? He's gonna hurt us!" Scar-face grinned, showing missing teeth. "Cute. Real cute."

Earth mage stepped forward, staff glowing brighter. "Enough games. Kill him."

Scar-face charged, axe raised high. Sloppy, telegraphed swing—all power, no technique. Child could've dodged it.

I didn't dodge.

Axe came down on my shoulder. Loud *clang*, metal hitting stone, axehead shattered. Pieces of broken metal flew everywhere.

Scar-face stared at now-useless weapon, then at my completely unharmed shoulder. "What...?"

**Adaptation: Physical Impact Resistance increased.**

**Understanding of axe combat: 10%.**

"Was that supposed to do something?" Brushed fleck of metal from jacket. Pure Sukuna—casual, dismissive, showing utter contempt.

Bandits' confidence vanished. Backed away, eyes wide.

"The mage!" someone shouted. "Do something!"

Earth mage raised staff. "Earth Wall!"

Ground in front of me erupted, wall of stone and dirt shooting up to block path. Thick, solid, about ten feet high.

Looked at it. Took step forward, punched.

Fist went through wall like paper. Stone shattered, dirt sprayed, wall collapsed into rubble.

**Adaptation: Earth Magic detected.**

**Analyzing... Basic geomancy.**

**Resistance acquired. Understanding: 25%.**

**Bonus Progress: 100% (no damage).**

Earth mage's eyes wide with fear. "Impossible! No one breaks Earth Wall that easily!"

Walked through rubble, dust settling around me. "Let me show you how it's done."

Raised hand, mimicked his gesture. "Earth Wall."

Ground in front of *him* erupted. But my wall different—taller, thicker, compressed stone gleaming like polished marble. Surrounded him on three sides, trapping him.

"W-what? How know earth magic?"

"Don't," I said. "Just saw you do it. Now I know." Turned to other bandits. "Your turn."

Tried to run. All of them, scattering different directions.

Sighed. "Boring."

**Universal Dragon Slayer: Fire Dragon's Roar.**

Took breath, fire poured from mouth. Not stream, but wave—controlled, precise, cut off escape paths without touching them. Trees left and right burst into flame, creating walls of fire that herded them back toward center.

**Adaptation: Fire Magic integration improved.**

**Precision control: +15%.**

Stumbled back, terrified. Some tried to charge again, desperation making them brave. Or stupid.

Didn't move. Just let them come.

First one swung sword at my head. Caught blade between two fingers, snapped it. Second tried to stab chest. Sword broke against skin. Third and fourth came together. Grabbed their heads, knocked them together gently—enough to see stars, not enough permanent damage.

**Adaptation: Bladed weapon resistance increased.**

**Hand-to-hand analysis: Complete.**

**New: Pressure Point Strikes.**

This was... fun. Like playing with toys. No, not toys—insects. Annoying, buzzing insects needing swatting.

Moved through them, not with speed but inevitability. Every attack they tried failed. Every defense attempted crumbled. Broke weapons, dislocated joints, delivered measured blows that dropped without killing.

All the while, adapting. Learning fighting styles, weaknesses, tells. System cataloging everything, turning pathetic attempts into data making me stronger.

Within minutes, all fifteen bandits on ground—groaning, unconscious, too hurt to move. Only earth mage remained, trapped behind my wall.

Walked over to him. Trying to break through, hammering at stone with staff. Not working.

"Having trouble?"

Spun around, fear in eyes. "What are you?"

"Koga. Fairy Tail mage. And you," leaning against wall, "are very bad earth mage."

"I'll kill you! Earth Spike!"

Slammed staff into ground. Sharp spikes of stone shot up from earth, aiming for chest, legs, throat.

Didn't move.

Spikes hit... shattered. Every single one. Broke against skin like glass against steel.

**Adaptation: Piercing Earth Magic resistance.**

**Understanding offensive geomancy: 40%.**

"Pathetic," voice dropping into Sukuna register—cold, cruel, amused by suffering. "That all you have? Little spikes from dirt?"

Raised hand. "Let me show what earth magic *should* look like."

**Universal Dragon Slayer: Earth Dragon's Crushing Fang.**

Ground beneath him didn't just spike up—*exploded*. Stone teeth size of swords erupted in circle around him, closing in like massive jaw. Stopped inches from body, surrounding in cage of razor-sharp rock.

Screamed, dropped staff, fell to knees. "Please! Don't kill me!"

"Not going to kill you," Sukuna-like cruelty fading, replaced by Gojo casual indifference. "Boring. And messy."

Walked over, picked up staff, snapped over knee. Green crystal shattered, magic dissipating into air.

**Adaptation: Earth Magic staff focus analyzed.**

**Understanding: 60%. Ability replicate: Available.**

"There. No more magic for you. Now..." Looked at bandits, most starting to regain consciousness. "All going to walk back to Oakwood Village. Going to return everything stole. Going to apologize. Nicely."

Didn't argue. Couldn't argue. Fight taken out of them.

Herded them out of forest, line of broken, limping men with terrified mage at front. Villagers watched from distance, fear slowly turning to amazement seeing who led bandits.

Village elder approached, eyes wide. "You... did it? All of them?"

"All of them. They'll return your things. After that..." Looked at bandits. "Suggest find new careers. Something not terrorizing people. Hear you've been bad again, I'll come back. Won't be as gentle next time."

Threat in voice real, they knew it. Nodded, hurried to pile of stolen goods, started carrying things back to village.

Elder pressed bag of coins into hand—reward. "Thank you. We... didn't think anyone could help."

"Fairy Tail helps. Remember that."

Turned, started walking back to Magnolia. Sun higher now, warming air. Behind me, villagers beginning to celebrate, voices lifting in relief, joy.

**Quest Complete: Clear bandit camp.**

**Bonus Complete: Defeat earth mage without damage.**

**Rewards:**

- **50,000 Jewels**

- **Earth Magic Adaptation: 75%**

- **Adaptation Speed: +5%**

- **Reputation Oakwood Village: +100**

**New: Earth Dragon Slayer Magic (Mastered).**

Smiled. One mission down. Four to go for guild quest. Already stronger than when started.

Walk back peaceful. Practiced new earth magic as went, making stones float, shaping dirt into temporary sculptures, feeling power of land beneath feet. System integrating it with Dragon Slayer magic, creating something new—something uniquely mine.

Returned to Fairy Tail, guild hall in full swing. More members than morning, more noise, more chaos. Makarov at bar, talking to woman with bright pink hair.

Saw me enter, waved over. "Back already? Quick."

"Bandits not much challenge." Dropped bag of coins on bar. "Mission complete."

Makarov counted money, looked at me with raised eyebrows. "Full reward. No injuries. Impressive." Pushed coins back. "Your cut. Guild takes 10%, you keep rest."

Took money. "Thanks."

Pink-haired woman looked at me with interest. "New member, Master?"

"Koga, meet Porlyusica. Guild doctor. Don't get on her bad side—mean when angry."

Porlyusica snorted. "And you're fool when sober." Looked me up and down. "No injuries. Not even scratch. Either very good or very lucky."

"Little of both," giving best Gojo smile.

Rolled eyes, but hint of amusement. "Cocky one. Fit right in."

As she walked away, Makarov leaned closer. "Earth magic adaptation, huh? Felt it when walked in. Magic signature changed."

"Learned from their mage. Now can do it better than he ever could."

Makarov shook head, but smiling. "Going to be trouble, kid. Good kind of trouble."

Took money, headed for job board again. Four more missions to go. Just getting started.

Looked over requests, felt it—eyes on me. Other guild members, watching, assessing. Word already spread about bandit mission. How quickly completed it. How came back without scratch.

Good. Let them watch. Let them wonder.

Pulled down another request—monster extermination. Something called "Rock Golem" terrorizing mining town.

**Quest Updated: Establish Yourself.**

**Progress: 1/5 missions.**

**New Sub-Objective: Exterminate Rock Golem.**

**Bonus: Adapt to golem's stone-based magic.**

Folded paper, tucked into pocket. Tomorrow's problem. For now, going to enjoy being member of Fairy Tail.
