Monday morning, Sharon walked into school feeling normal again.
Until Mia ran up to her.
"Sharon!"
"What?" Sharon asked.
Mia looked excited. "Is it true?"
"Is what true?"
"You and Dylan!"
Sharon blinked. "What about us?"
"I heard he drove you home on Friday!"
Sharon froze.
"How do you know that?"
"Everyone knows!" Mia said dramatically.
Before Sharon could respond, two classmates walked past them.
"Hey Sharon," one of them teased. "How's Dylan?"
Her eyes widened.
"We're not dating!" she said quickly.
"Sure," the girl laughed.
Sharon buried her face in her hands.
This was a disaster.
At that moment, Dylan walked into the hallway.
Several students immediately started whispering.
He looked confused until one of the boys shouted, "Hey Dylan! Where's your girlfriend?"
Dylan frowned. "What?"
The boy pointed toward Sharon.
Dylan turned and saw her standing there, clearly embarrassed.
For a second, they stared at each other.
Then Dylan walked over.
"Did you start this rumor?" Sharon demanded.
"No!" he said. "Did you?"
"Of course not!"
They both sighed.
"Well," Dylan said, scratching the back of his head, "this is awkward."
Sharon groaned.
"People think we're dating!"
Dylan shrugged slightly.
"I mean… it could be worse."
Sharon stared at him.
"Don't even joke about that."
But as she walked away, she noticed something strange.
Dylan didn't look very bothered by the rumor at all.
And for some reason…
Neither did she. 💕
