Chapter 14 - TGS Chapter 14

The game at the Trop remained ignited with the more than 30,000 fans sitting in the stands waiting for the game to resume after an electrifying first half with the score standing at 6-10.

"And we have just seen a great first half of the game in which the Nitro team (White) is in the lead by 4 points," said the unmistakable voice of Adam to all the spectators who were watching the game from television.

"I'll say, it was a spectacular game with several offensive series, but since Wyatt Sterling made his touchdown in the first quarter, none of the other Quarterbacks managed to do so, with field goals being the only consolation for both teams," said Tom while on social media they did not stop asking for Wyatt to re-enter the field of play.

The comments on social media were also a hotbed with several internet users commenting on the game and more than anything asking for Wyatt to go back in, something that did not go unnoticed by the organizers of the event nor the producer of the program.

Bringing his finger to the ear of his headset, Adam heard the words being said to him: "It seems, Tom, that on social media the match is being a complete success with several comments with #all american and #underarmour being trends and also with the majority of those comments asking for Wyatt Sterling to return to the field in the 2nd half of this exciting game," he mentioned with a smile.

Locker rooms

Inside the locker rooms, Wyatt's expression was relaxed since he had only played one complete offensive series, something with which he did not feel the least bit tired, since once he made the touchdown in the first quarter, Coach Mariucci had opted to play Shane Morris and Brice Ramsey, who had good offensive series in their turns but none could reach the end zone.

Clapping his hands loudly, Coach Mariucci called the attention of all the players inside the locker room.

"Very good first half, guys," said Coach Mariucci with a smile, praising the good performance his team had had but with his gaze set especially on the player with the number 10 jersey who had made a touchdown in the first quarter, giving them a great advantage at the beginning of the game.

"But now we enter the most crucial part of the game," he said, pacing throughout the locker room with his hands behind his back. "And I know this is an exhibition game, but I want to take the win home," said Coach Mariucci, giving a significant look to each player and encouraging them to go further.

"So in the second part, I want you to play with the same intensity as in the first half," Coach Mariucci finished saying while the players were already preparing to leave the locker room back to the practice field.

"One last thing," said the coach upon seeing the players already in front of the door as if he had forgotten something. "Above all, avoid risky actions, agreed? Some of you have already signed letters of intent with some universities and I don't want to be the one responsible for you arriving injured," was the last comment from the coach while he scratched the back of his head, being received by some laughter from the players.

Heading out toward the field, they found the black team in the hallway with both teams walking toward the field without saying a word to each other and in total concentration.

"And we're back with the second half of this exciting game," said Tom with a smile, seeing how the players entered the field and placed themselves in positions. "And it seems that the voices of the fans were heard because Wyatt Sterling will enter the field again," said Adam while the stadium cameras pointed at Wyatt, who entered trotting toward the field while adjusting the helmet over his head and placed himself behind his line of scrimmage.

Once in position and seeing that his teammates were also ready, Wyatt did not waste time and gave the command: "Ready hot!!" he shouted out loud, receiving the ball quickly in his hands, scanning the field while the line of scrimmage collided.

But perhaps it was the complacency of winning on the scoreboard or because they had not yet fully entered the game, the line of scrimmage did not hold enough to prevent Robert Nkemdiche from breaking through in the direction of Wyatt.

Without expecting that, Wyatt could do nothing and ended up sacked by Robert, who knocked him down with force, ending up on the ground. "UFF," a moan of pain came out of Wyatt's mouth at the moment his body hit the hard ground of the field.

"And Robert Nkemdiche sacked Wyatt Sterling! Oh my god, that is something that nobody expected!!" Adam yelled frantically while the audience roared at that unexpected play that no one had anticipated.

"You shouldn't take the merit away from Robert; not for nothing is he the best Defensive end of this class and the defensive player of the moment. Give him a little space or get careless and he will end up sacking you as happened with Sterling," Adam quickly added.

"Got you," Robert said, standing up while extending his hand down to Wyatt and helping him get to his feet.

"You tackle hard," Wyatt responded while lightly rubbing his chest, which was still slightly sore from the collision.

At that comment, Robert did nothing but laugh and returned to the rest of his teammates while high-fiving some at the sack of Wyatt.

"This became more interesting, Adam. After the sack of Sterling, the white team lost 4 yards, making it so they now need to advance 13 yards in only 3 opportunities," said Tom, excited at the drama that the sack of Wyatt had generated in the game.

"I wouldn't be so sure, Tom. After all, if I had to bet on a Quarterback who is capable of recovering from this situation, all my chips are on Sterling," said Adam, trusting that Wyatt would give a surprise to all the viewers who were watching the game.

"Alright, come on people, we have to do better," Wyatt said while clapping, encouraging all his teammates who had lowered their heads a bit seeing how their line of scrimmage was easily penetrated.

"Sterling, we will play blue 85," said Coach Mariucci through the earphone inside Wyatt's helmet, who simply raised his thumb in his direction letting him know that he had caught the instruction.

"Blue 85 people, blue 85!!" Wyatt shouted in the direction of all his teammates, who caught his instructions while getting into position, ready to play the second opportunity.

Without complications, Wyatt received the ball while securing it against his body and retreated to swap positions quickly with Ryan Green, who charged rapidly in the direction of the line of scrimmage while slightly shrinking his body and prepared for the collision.

Immediately seeing how Green approached them, the defensive line of the black team did their best, knocking him down after a journey of only 3 yards, but once on the ground, they saw with horror how the ball was not with him.

"Get him!!" shouted one of the cornerbacks who saw how Wyatt had evaded the line of scrimmage and was heading toward the end zone running as fast as possible while the cornerback who had given the warning immediately approached him seeking to knock him down as quickly as possible, preventing him from advancing more than necessary.

With the cornerback being the closest to him, Wyatt extended his hand forward while the ball was secured in the other hand against his chest, preparing for the impact.

"Uff," groaned the cornerback upon colliding first with the firmly extended hand of Wyatt, who, upon seeing how the cornerback lost momentum after the collision, did not waste time and accelerated even more, seeking to gain the greatest amount of yards possible.

Composing himself, the cornerback immediately went in pursuit of Wyatt, who did not even turn around, concentrating completely on running as far as possible before the other team managed to knock him down.

The safety, who was always lurking and seeing how Wyatt got rid of the cornerback, also ran in his direction, causing Wyatt to be surrounded from front and back.

Seeing that, Wyatt tried to break free from the safety, but by being more attentive and prepared, he managed to collide against Wyatt in an attempt to knock him down. "How is he so strong?" was the thought of the safety upon seeing how, despite his best efforts to push Wyatt, he could not knock him to the ground.

Fortunately, the cornerback who had previously been crossed by Wyatt arrived to give support to the safety and the two together finally were able to knock Wyatt to the ground.

"And when you thought that the white team was doomed, Wyatt Sterling along with Ryan Green starred in a brilliant combination of runs allowing Wyatt to manage to add 10 yards to his team, leaving only 4 yards remaining in the 3rd opportunity."

Getting up quickly, he gathered with the rest of the team, putting themselves quickly in formation for the 3rd and 4th opportunity.

"Ready Hot!!" shouted Wyatt, receiving the ball to throw a quick pass in the direction of his Sebastian Larue, who, upon seeing how the ball was heading toward him, prepared to receive the ball, but the cornerback of the black team was more attentive this time, preventing Sebastian from catching it, slipping from his arms and falling out of bounds.

"Tscht," Wyatt clicked his tongue in a sign of frustration seeing how his pass ended in an incomplete one.

"And now the situation became complicated again, being in 4th opportunity and 4 yards remaining for a new opportunity and 20 from the end zone," yelled Tom after the noise of the crowd that encouraged the game.

"Let's try a field goal," said Mariucci through the microphone, being received immediately by the refusal of Wyatt who moved his head from one side to the other.

"You want to try the fourth?" Mariucci asked this time, being received by the nod of Wyatt's head.

Weighing his options, Mariucci's first thought was the field goal, but seeing the refusal of Wyatt and that there were 10 minutes left, he decided that the time gave margin to try it, so he nodded to Wyatt, letting it be known that he agreed.

"Oh look at this, it seems that the white team will try to add the remaining yards they need for the new opportunity since the special team has not entered. The question is, will they be able to break through the defense of the black team?" Adam asked, generating expectation in all the viewers and on social media.

With everything prepared, the white team started its fourth opportunity with Wyatt clinging the ball in his hands and retreating as much as possible to have more visibility while the line of scrimmage held with force the defense of the black team, giving Wyatt valuable seconds to prepare his throw.

Fixing the target of his pass, Wyatt immediately gathered all his strength in his right arm, throwing a deep pass with all his might in the direction of the right corner of the end zone of the field.

In that place, a white jersey was running as fast as possible in the direction of where the ball would fall while from time to time he turned his head calculating the exact point where the ball would fall.

The safety seeing that also headed in that direction with both players running as fast as possible toward the point in which the ball would fall.

Seeing the ball starting its descent, Laquon did not think much about it and jumped with all his might forward, extending his hands as much as possible, capturing the ball with the tips of his fingers to then fall on the ground.

One of the referees immediately approached, looking carefully at the place where Laquon had fallen, and seeing that both feet were in the end zone, he raised his hands immediately signaling that the touchdown was valid.

"I can't believe it, it seems we witnessed the play of the match Tom. Laquon Treadwell with a brilliant catch gives a valuable touchdown to the white team," Adam blurted out with his microphone, his voice being drowned out by the screams of the spectators.

"Let me tell you that although Laquon has great credit, none of that could have been possible without the calm and precision of Wyatt in the key moments. That is something that differentiates a good player from a great player," said Tom while on the screens the sequence of the pass and the catch was repeated.

6-16 current score.

Once Laquon got up, he was immediately received by his teammates who gave him pats on his helmet and on the back after the incredible catch he had just made.

Under the insistence of the referee, the team left the field giving space to the special team for the extra point kick, adding another valuable point and increasing the advantage they had against the black team.

6-17 current score.
