Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Dummy

Warning: Self-harm attempt.

Josh drove back home, looking in the car mirror, seeing his kids in the back. "How was your day?" he asked. They all looked up from their phones long enough for Osiris to say, "It was fine, some kids were trying to talk with me about the news." Josh sighed, thinking to himself, unsure: "It has been over a week, those kids are still talking about it?" Osiris groaned and said, "They most likely are talking about it for a month or longer." Josh let out a heavy sigh before he looked at Wendy, and she groaned, "My day was fine, nothing much special happened with me if that's what you wonder." Josh smiled and said, "That's good, darling," then sighed to himself and heard a small laugh from Luca. "What are you laughing about?" Josh asked. "Nothing, father, it's just my friend Conrad told me a joke earlier," Luca replied. Josh then said, "Oh how are you and Conrad doing anyway?" Luca responded, "He wants to spend more time with me lately…" He stopped, looking puzzled, his smile dropping before he added, "I-I think that's because his birthday is coming out- I mean up." He smiled again. Josh chuckled to himself and said, "What do you all want for dinner?" Wendy replied, "What about Pie Six?" Josh said back, "You should be tired of pizza at this point." She just shrugged her shoulders, then Luca said, "Piz is not that good compared to other places-" as Tala said something back to him. Josh, at that point, didn't completely tune into their fight. He pulled out an alleyway before his eyes glowed, opening a portal, driving through, and was now a mile away from their house. Driving up to the house, they saw their 80s-style house, yet now looking at the other homes, Carlos's was a late 90s-style home. Early 2000s house for Ade, and last was a mid 2000s house for Nimuel. He then pulled into the driveway as his kids ran into the house. He sighed. Getting out of the car, Robert looked at him and asked, "How are you doing?" Josh groaned and answered, "I was better. Tell everyone we meet in the meeting room around 10 when the kids are asleep." Robert nodded his head yes before walking off. Josh walked to his house, unlocking the door, closing the door, and relocking the door. Seeing his kids caught watching TV, he said, "Go upstairs and do your homework." They all groaned. "Dad, I don't have any work I have to do," Wendy responded. Josh looked at her, extending his hand out to her. She walked over, picking up her backpack, and he pulled out all the folders, going through them, not seeing anything. He put them back, rezipped the backpack, and placed the bag by the door. Looking at Osiris, he picked it up and gave it to him. He shrugged his shoulders. Josh glared through the bag, saying, "Son I know you have work in here, don't make me look through this trainwreck of a backpack." Handing the bag to him, Osiris smirked and walked upstairs. He looked at Luca; Luca just groaned, got his bag, and walked upstairs. Tala just handed him the bag. He looked through the bag for a quick second, saying, "Tala, go upstairs." She sighed, saying, "Dad, come on, give me a pass, it's Monday." Josh handed over the bag, saying, "Yeah, it is; how do you even have this much work anyway?" She took the bag, walking up the stairs slowly, looking back at him, sad with each step, then giving up halfway. Wendy sighed, hitting the couch, grabbing the remote before it teleported out of her hand. She groaned, looking at Josh, who looked at her, then upstairs. "But, Dad, I finished all my homework," she protested. He raised his eyebrows and tightened his face slightly as she went upstairs. He said, "I always love you, honey." She did not reply to that.

The day soon disappeared as the night came. Mary came home just before 8:00, right before their one-day dessert for the week. She smiled, saying, "Right on time," taking her shoes off by the door as they all sat around the table. After dessert, they sat and watched a movie. Tala, Luca, Wendy, and Josh watched the movie while the rest were doing their own thing. Josh could keep feeling uneasy as the day went on. By 9:00, they sent all the kids to bed. Tala and Luca shared a room while Wendy and Osiris shared their own room. Josh and Mary said goodnight to all their kids. Before Luca called for Josh, he looked at Mary, waving her goodbye, confused. She went towards her room as Josh sat on the edge of the bed. Lending down, saying, "What's wrong?" Luca looked down, his eyes darted around, not looking into his dad's eyes as he spoke, "Dad, how do you know if you like someone?" Luca had now met his dad's eyes. Josh looked back, seeing a mix of emotion in his son's eyes. "What do you mean?" Josh replied, starting to put the pieces together, then thinking, "No, I need to act like a father rather than a warrior." Luca looked around, saying, "Nothing, Dad… sorry." Josh whispered now, "No, if you do like someone, the signs are you could stop thinking about them, they light up the room when they come in. They make you feel better just by being there most of the time. That was the same feeling I had with your mom." Luca looked more sure, saying, "Thank you, Dad." Josh got up as "Goodnight." Josh replied with, "Goodnight son."He turned off the light, closing the door. Walking towards his room, closing the doors behind him. Seeing Mary in her night gown lying in bed. He got into bed, lying right behind her. "How is your day at work?" She smiled and looked at him. "It was fine…." She paused. "Everything was fine, my boss was just giving me more work and not paying me any more money." Josh sighed, "I'm sorry I could try to get a job to help out."Mary replied quickly, "No, you need to solve this issue before anything." Josh was lying down on her lap, groaning, "I wish this whole thing would pass already." Mary rubbed his head, saying, "I know once you find this person or group of people then we can put this whole thing to bed." They both sat there thinking to themselves, "Why did Luca want to talk with you?" Josh replied, "He wants to know how it feels to be like someone." Mary got her phone off the dresser nearby, saying, "Do you want me to start making a cake recipe?" Josh said back, "No he will talk to us when he is ready." He pulled out his phone, groaning as it was 9:30 pm. Mary looked at him, and he looked back, "I need to meet with the rest of the gang to talk about this whole incident." Mary chuckled. "Is that what the problem is?"Josh sighed, "No it's because I am so tired already and we are most likely going to be talking for hours." Mary patted his head, and he looked confused, "Just move up the time you dummy." He got up, kissed her check saying, "You are so smart and I'm so tired." He paused as he thought to himself, "I think Wendy is trying to sneak out of the house." Mary just nodded her yes, "Do you want to stop her before I leave the house?" Mary groaned slightly, "This time but I'm getting the next one." He blew her a kiss, walked out of the door, and yelled out saying, "Wendy my darling you are not flying away to see your, Peter." He heard the window shut. He walked downstairs, texting his friend the new time, putting on his shoes, and walking out the door.

He walked through the neighborhood. There was only one street light on either side of the road. He didn't need the night anyway because he could see fine in the dark. Walking to the office, pulling out the keys, unlocking the door, and relocking it, seeing scientists working. Waving to them, some of them were able to wave back and lock the door going down the elevator. Then saying to myself, "I hope they get my text in time." The door opened as he walked through the halls before opening the doors to see his friends. "Oh, you're all ready here?" Ade sighed, "We were getting tired so we all came here just to talk," Josh then replied with, "Why didn't you tell me then?" Ade snapped back, "Well, when we saw your text we decided to wait for you, our hopeful leader." Josh got closer to Ade, "What do you mean by that?" Nimuel then yelled out, "Can we just move on and talk about the stalker?" Robert then spoke up, "This is the last couple of photos we got before they disappeared." Everyone looked at him, surprised. Then Carlos said, "How long have you been there?" He smiled, "All night, with my new technology," his eyes light gray, and the joints glowed the same before he vanished and came back. Josh was thinking to himself, "he could be good just in case." Then, looking at the TV, scanning through the photos. Nimuel gasped as everyone looked at him. He went towards the screen, saying, "There was more than one person."He turned around with a flick of his hands, and the screen brightness went up. The woman was tall with short, inky hair and Colombian blue eyes. The man was as large as he was carved from a mountain. His face was sharp, his fog void like eyes, and his short, dark brown, soiled hair. Carlos spoke, "Do we know their name at least?" They all looked at him. Josh looked closer, seeing a slight outline behind her. Nimuel groaned, lighting the outline and darkening everything else. They all saw the person they were built like a mountain of a person. Josh got a text, "Looks like you are getting closer to the truth. Come and meet me at these coordinates a week from today, bring your friends if you so choose." Josh's eyes glowed looking at everything; they looked back at him. "Time to be done with this." They all looked at each other. Josh sighted, summoning his sword, looking at himself.

Anger built in his body, he flew up and then through the hallway, smashing through the front doors up into the sky, yelling as the clouds were blown away, as rain poured down. He groaned, "Humans?! They are spoiled!" He flew in seconds to Dallas. He smiled, "They will learn-" He stopped himself, seeing someone near the edge of a building around Luca's age, who landed on the building. The boy looked scared to see him. Josh fingers his finger as the sword fades away. He opened his posture and learned what to do when someone or a group of people were in a hazardous situation. "Do you want to talk about why you are here?" The boy turned from him back to the edge. Josh rolled his eyes. "Okay no response that's fine with me I can wait." Josh sat on the edge near the boy. The teen looked at Josh, then off the building. Josh spoke, seemingly reading the teenager's mind. "The city is so beautiful from this height. You know that is one of the many reasons I wanted to live here. Do you want to live here?" The boy moved his flowing golden hair out of the way to show his dark blue eyes, speaking, "My parents." Josh was surprised but dialed it back in case that upset him. The teen did not decide to speak for another half hour, then said, "My name is Felix- the sixth in the Ellies' household." Josh smiled, "What a nice name, do you want to tell me anything more?" Felix stopped talking. Josh was thinking he had waited long enough. Felix said, "My parents didn't really like my choices in… things, and it soon started spiraling out of control from there. It started to become so suffocating to live in my house and my mind so why not just leave everything behind?" Josh just sat there as Fliex kept listening for around an hour. Flex stops looking for an answer from a stranger. Josh sighs, "I made many mistakes in my life and right before this you need someone to talk to. A professional but if not ready then a friend I know." Josh got up and wiped his hands, taking out a phone. Felix thought about giving him the phone. Josh made his own phone float in the air. Texting a number in Felix's phone, handing it back to him. Felix looked at the phone number. It's one of my friend's sons. His name is Richard. I think you'll like each other." Josh gave him a smile and a wink. He sat back down. Felix sat down next to him slowly closing his eyes.

Josh sat there for over an hour yawning, going to sleep. He heard Mary voice his open eyes. See Mary fade into black seeing Osiris looking at him on the site of the same building when Osiris was 16 years old. Osiris looked down to the street below back to his dad skeptical "Are you fully sure about this flight test idea?" Josh smiled, jumping off the building, and flying back up. Saying "We did this with your sister, and she was already flying." Osiris mumbled to himself saying "Fine." Looking down as he fell off the building Josh grabbed him "It's just like walking when you were young, don't think about it. Josh lifts his underside as Osiris starts to smile. Soon he started to speed up, saying, "Dad you can let go now." He looked down, seeing his dad was back in the building. Osiris started to float down faster and faster. Josh yelled out, "Think about the air around you." Osiris is now in free fall. "Dad help me.!" Josh flew as he heard the words, as Josh caught his son landing back on the building. Osiris smiled, "I can't wait to learn how to fly. I will be better than you someday." Josh chuckled, " Let's just start small." They hugged, sitting on the edge. Josh blinked his eyes, his eyes open. He looked around as the sun was starting to rise over the sky. The streets were busy with people and cars going to work or leaving work. He thought to himself, "I need to head home soon yet I could wait a little longer." Fleix started to wake up as he saw the sun rise, getting a panic attack. He nearly fell as Josh grabbed him, saying, "I got you Fleix." He stretched his body in a whisper, saying, "Can you take me home?" Josh asked, "Where to?" Felix whispered the address as Josh grabbed him, snapping his fingers, teleporting to his house. It was a large mansion with a high iron fence and a larger concert wall surrounding the building. He breathes with richness and lies. Felix sighs, "I can do this part alone thank you, Joshua." Josh said, "You can just call me Josh." Felix gave him a warm smile as Josh teleported back home. He yawned when Robert came out of the lab, and he questioned, "Where have you been?" Josh barely cared to reply, "I saved a kid's life and I set him up with your son." Robert grinned as Josh walked into his house, then said, "Wait you did what? Josh, what do you mean?" Josh didn't say anything. Robert ran to his house saying, "We need to go through Rich's phone." Josh smiled, hugging his wife and kissing her cheek. Wendy groaned, Luca found it sweet, yet Tala didn't care. Osiris looked at his parents eating his toast. Josh looked into his eyes for a hug, but Osiris rejected it, ignoring his father. Josh sighed to himself, "Humans?"
