Inside the sterile hospital room, Yuji stood over his grandfather, Wasuke. He held flowers with an empty face. Wasuke glared at the flowers, then rolled onto his side and put his forearm under him. "What's with the flowers?" Yuji glanced at them, then back to Wasuke, "I heard you get these when someone dies." His tone was flat, as if he felt nothing seeing the sight of his grandfather on his deathbed. Wasuke closed his eyes. "Geez, I ain't dead yet. Gah, toss them out. I don't want flowers." Yuji tossed the bouquet into the nearby trash and walked to his grandfather's side. He crouched down and took his hand. Wasuke peeked open an eye, then squeezed slightly, "Yuji, listen, we both know that death is coming for me. I want you to promise me something." Yuji nodded nearly imperceptively, "What?" Wasuke sighed, "This old man is trying to give you his final wish, and you can't even pretend to show a shred of emotion?" Yuji remained silent. The truth is, he'd never had a shred of emotion, not when his rescued pet dog was hit by a car in front of him, not when he was forgotten for the school trip, or when his grandfather's last stroke left him permanently bedridden, and now, not even seeing his grandpa dying could he say he felt any emotion. "Whatever, just promise me that you'll make friends, don't be alone forever, have people next to you when you, too, are on your deathbed, unlike me." Yuji tilted his head and pointed to himself, "I am here." Waskue scoffed and turned away again, "You don't count, you can't be a human." Yuji looked at his hand, it was also true. He'd never once cried or felt pain, never had he had a scrape or any blimishes. He didn't know what he was, but he couldn't be entirely human; every human he saw was weak, both physically and emotionally. Wasuke glanced back, "I don't want you turning your back on someone in need. I'll be watching over you from above. Now promise." Yuji stood to his full height, "More like below." Wasuke growled, "Was that your idea of a joke?!" Yuji stared blankly. Wasuke sighed. "Say it, brat. I need to hear it, or this old man can't pass on peacefully. Yuji opened his mouth, but before he could speak, the heart monitor flatlined. Yuji watched it and listened to the flat noise it made for a moment. "I promise." The room silenced, for the first time in his life, Yuji felt something staring at his grandfather, his only caretaker's body, not sadness, but maybe disappointment. "He didn't hear it. Guess he won't pass on." Yuji walked to the wall and pressed the call button. He grabbed his school bag and walked out, down the hall, took the stairs down, and went to the front desk. "Room 214's patient is deceased." The front desk lady looked up, a bit miffed that he was so calm. This boy had been in here every day for over a year. The patient was his grandfather, and yet he showed not a hint of emotion. "Y-Yes, I'll mark that and send a doctor." Yuji turned away and walked to the sliding doors. "No need." He walked out, leaving the receptionist to pick her jaw off the floor.
It was game day at the school. Most attending cheered; the whole school had gone to see the biggest game of the year. It was a fairly standard football match, and Yuji didn't know what the fuss was all about. He had been recruited a while ago but refused; it wasn't really something he found interesting. He didn't find much of anything interesting, but this was the least interesting thing he'd ever seen. He was only there because everyone else was there. He glanced to the side, after a movement from the corner of his eye caught two students grabbing a wrapped object from a forgotten post with a box. Only moments later, a black-haired boy, wearing a uniform from what looked like some prestigious private school, looked in the box and freaked when he saw nothing inside. "Damn it. Where the hell could it have gone?" "Where could what have gone?" Megumi instinctively jumped back and prepared to summon his twin dogs, but he stopped when he saw a normal student watching him with a blank expression. Megumi relaxed slightly. "Move along." Yuji didn't move. He glanced at the post once again, then back to this emo-looking guy, "What were you looking for?" Megumi frowned, then sighed. "Have you seen the item that was inside this box?" Yuji shook his head, "Never looked inside." Megumi knew it was useless to ask a normal student, but it surely was worth a try. He walked past the student. Yuji watched as he walked past, "I know where it is, though." Megumi whirled on him at the speed of light; he bore down on Yuji, "Where?" Yuji looked past him. "It was taken by the occult club." Megumi's eyes widened and darkened with fear. He pushed past Yuji and ran for the building, muttering to himself, "No, no, no, how could I have been so careless. Can they still be saved?" Despite being barely audible, he could hear it as if it were a loud whisper. The boy disappeared around the corner. He looked back at the game, the disappointingly boring football game. He walked around the school and heard a scream. He didn't want to get involved with the item, the club, or the students. Yuji stepped back from the gate. He'd just walk home, a weight pushed against his back to stop him. Yuji looked behind, but there was nobody, but the feeling remained.
Megumi made his way to the top of the school. He had searched each room until he found the teacher's lounge that listed the clubs. He burst into the occult club and came face-to-face with a cursed abomination. It was a shifting mass of seeming flesh that threatened to swallow the two club members whole. Megumi spotted the finger in the girl's hand. He rushed forward, planted his feet, and leaped. His fingers closed around the girl's wrist, and he reached for the finger. He could save the civilians later, maybe, but there was no chance if the cursed spirit absorbed the finger. As he grabbed at the finger, one of the spirit's many arms slammed into him, blowing him out of the room. He rolled and hit the wall with a cough, but he got up right and looked at his hand. Finger acquired. The curse bellowed and moved towards him. Megumi noted a weakness; it was very slow. The only problem was that it was so wide it filled the halls, and he couldn't get to the students. He clutched the finger, "Damn it." He put his hands together and summoned the divine dogs, wolf-like shikigami summonings, one black and the other white. They charged in, but were sent flying by the curse; it cornered Megumi against the wall, leaving him with little room to maneuver. He glanced to the window, maybe he could jump, that would leave those two, but he had to preserve his own life.
The window shattered as a figure burst through. Yuji brushed the glass from his uniform and looked down the hall. He saw Megumi being cornered by some weird blob that held his classmates captive. Yuji watched with detachment. Whose side was he on? A random guy or the monster holding his classmates? He'll just help the humans. He rushed in and jumped on the curse's back, he wrenched his classmates free and punched a hole in the curse, but it quickly regrew and trapped his arm. Yuji's eyes widened slightly as a fist slammed into him. He flew back but flipped and landed on his feet. He stepped forward again but paused after a moment. He felt something warm on his face, bringing his hand up to it, he found it to be blood, but from where? It was himself; it came from his nose. He was bleeding, for the first time in his life, he felt pain bloom in his face. A strange feeling came over him, not fear, and he couldn't really call it joy; it was more anticipation. He wanted more, to feel what it was like to feel. He rushed forward again, "What does this thing want?" Megumi's eyes widened. He was still in shock that this boy, with no cursed energy, jumped four stories and handled getting hit by a cursed spirit like it was nothing. He couldn't let the unexplainable dwell on him for long, though; he raised the finger." It wants this; it's a cursed object." The curse surged forward, but Yuji used its body to jump past and grab the finger; the curse slammed into the two boys, launching them onto the roof. Megumi groaned in pain as Yuji stood in front of him. The curse opened its mouth to screech, and Yuji rushed in, uppercutting the curse to shut it up. Yuji skidded back by the force, but the curse just kept coming. He glanced back at Megumi, "What's so important about this finger?" Megumi groaned in pain but pushed himself up, "It's a special grade cursed object, it imbues whoever eats it with incredible amounts of cursed energy." Yuji glanced at the finger, "And is that how to defeat this monster?" Megumi nodded, "A cursed spirit can only be defeated with cursed energy. But that finger-" Yuji swallowed it. Megumi stared at him blankly. Yuji stood still, "Yuck." Megumi blinked slowly. Maybe it was an illusion, but he only saw Yuji look at him, "Does that mean I can kill this thing now?" Megumi's eyes widened. "Why aren't you dead?" Yuji turned away. He crouched and jumped at the curse. Megumi thought to himself, "Sukuna's finger is supposed to kill anyone who eats it, but this guy doesn't seem affected at all. What's with this amount of cursed energy? Just one finger shouldn't be that strong." Yuji curled his fingers. He swiped his hand and cut the curse in two. He landed and stared. A faint disappointment settled in his chest; he thought the fight would be harder. He turned back, "Is that all?" Someone new stood next to Megumi, a white-haired man wearing a blindfold; he wore a smile and held shopping bags in his arms. He whipped out his phone and began to snap pictures of the injured Megumi. "My boy's first solo mission, look how cute he looks, all beaten up. Now, where's the finger?" "I ate that thing." The man turned his head to meet Yuji. He paused, "Eh?" Megumi sighed on the ground and explained that Yuji ate the finger to gain cursed energy and defeat the curse. Gojo moved around Yuji, "He doesn't seem to be taken over or dead." Yuji followed his movements with his eyes, "Why would I be dead? What was so impressive about that finger?" Gojo stopped, his smile faltering a second, "You don't know about Jujutsu, do you?" "Like that magic stuff?" Gojo laughed and slapped his back, "Yep, magic stuff." his tone became slightly more serious despite the smile, "Jujutsu is the ability to turn negative energy into power. This power can then be used for Jujutsu sorcery, the ability to transform cursed energy into different forms." Yuji nodded; it didn't really answer his question, but it was useful information. "That finger," Gojo continued, "Belonged to Ryomen Sukuna. In his time, he was the undisputed number one, the king of curses." "So he was strong?" Gojo nodded. "Are you strong?" Gojo nodded again. "So if you two were to fight, who would win?" Gojo thought for a moment, "He would give me some trouble." It didn't answer his question, "But would you lose?" Gojo's smile remained, "Nah, I'd win." Yuji glanced down at his hand. That attack he let off earlier was unreal. He glanced back at Gojo, "So, how strong are you?" Gojo tilted his head, "Well, I'm the strongest." He glanced at Megumi, who nodded and tried to push himself up. "Unfortunately, this idiot is widely recognized as the strongest sorcerer. Gojo stuck out his hand, "Gojo Satoru." Yuji looked at it, then at the man, then shook his hand, "Yuji, Itadori Yuji." He noticed that his hand wasn't connecting. He glanced down to see an invisible space separating their hands. He didn't comment on it, and Gojo didn't elaborate. "Is he in there?" Yuji looked around, "Is who in where?" Gojo chuckled, "Sukuna, you ingested his finger; he should be inside you." Yuji pat his stomach, "I have a curse in my stomach?" Gojo laughed, "He's gonna grow inside you until you burst. "Wow." Gojo laughed at Yuji's lack of emotion, "You're funny, kid. Too bad I have to execute you." Yuji looked up and was met with a backhand. His vision blurred, he felt a wave of pain across his face, and his heart quickened. Before his vision went dark, a dark silhouette stepped from behind Gojo. "Grandpa." Yuji's eyes closed.
