Gabrielle was the first to speak after the long silence between them. "Jacob, I'll head out first," she said.
Jacob glanced at her and gave a wide smile. "Take care on your way home. Thank you for your hard work," he replied.
Gabrielle nodded, smiling back at him. "You too. See you tomorrow," she added before finally leaving him behind, as she silently waved.
Jacob watched her go, his gaze lingering until she disappeared from sight. Once she was gone, he returned to what he had been doing.
"You're still not finished?"
The sudden voice startled him. He quickly looked up and saw Damon leaning casually against the doorway of his office, as if he had been there watching him silently.
"Don't just speak out of nowhere like that," Jacob said, slightly irritated.
Damon pushed himself off the door and walked toward him until he stood right in front of Jacob's desk. "Did I scare you?" he asked, as if unaware of Jacob's reaction.
