Loreen's POV
Loreen stared at Ardent. Scented candles.
The words sat in his chest and would not move. If anyone had told him a week ago that Lady Candice was going to be killed through something as ordinary as a candle burning in her room at night, he would not have believed it.
He would have said it was impossible. He would have said that nobody could be that careful and that patient and that deliberate about something like that.
But someone had been.
He opened his mouth to say something, but the door to his bedroom opened.
Sera stepped out carrying her bag over her arm. She pulled the door gently closed behind her and looked up and stopped when she saw Ardent sitting on the couch.
Ardent looked at her. He did not say anything immediately.
He simply looked at her with the particular stillness of a man who had not expected to see someone and was now very interested in why they were there. "Why are you here, Sera?" He asked.
