Sairis's POV
Loreen hummed. "Never a doubt," he muttered.
Sairis took a slow breath and closed his eyes for a moment.
This was not how he had planned for any of this to come out. That was why he had written it all down in the letter. Everything. The pregnancy, who the father was, why he had chosen to leave, all of it laid out carefully in words he had spent most of the previous night finding.
He had given that letter to Henrietta and trusted her to pass it to Loreen after he was gone, when there was enough distance between them that Loreen could not do anything dramatic about it.
Instead he was lying in Loreen's bed with a headache, Ardent standing at the foot of the bed, and the king of Eryndor sitting on the other side of the room with the widest smile Sairis had seen on the man's face since they met.
Sairis frowned at the king. Then he turned to Loreen.
"I am sorry you found out this way," he said.
